You'll quickly find out that no one else gives a tinker's dime about the lakers.

Your killing me with the responses.  You seem to have a bit of a, well obvious, satirical side to you, I can appreciate that.  Awnry is a quality trait.  I've been accused of possessing a bit of that myself.  I can only imagine what your other 19,000+ posts read like.  No, I'm not going to go back and read them..

decided on central oregon already ... just need to find a rental.  I don’t want to buy right away...just in case i decide i don’t like it there. hopefully los angeles washes out of my system quickly.

Bend is pretty cool.  Stayed there a couple of years ago.  Has good amenities. Growing quite a bit.  New construction, but nowhere near the headaches of LA.

becoming more of a reality for me.

i have to be out of here in three weeks...still don’t have a place to live. today decided that i need to make another trip to Oregon for house hunting. if i can’t secure something then, my stuff goes into storage and i hit the road ... or something.

That kinda sucks.  Where are you looking at going to in Oregon?  I cover the eastern edge with my job, and I know the rep that has the rest of the state real well.  We could come up with some areas, recommendations if you like.  What kind of terrain, lifestyle do you like?  Quiet country with mountains, or city?

Damn hell of a note. Sounds like a hellaciousiually hell of a state.

If I'm following your reference correctly, please, please, don't mistake what I'm saying as representative of Washington in it's entirety.  Believe me, it's a great, beautiful place to live.  Tons of quality individuals here.  Anyone that's been here, or lives here, will tell you the same.  I was generalizing as to the parents/kids that are fitting of the previous posts.  Sorry, I jumped on a bit of soap box.

I'm subjected to more of these stories because of the kids my wife works with.  I get fired up when I think of kids with plenty of potential being sold short by their own parents.  As far as half of my 7th graders class failing, my other daughters 8th grade, and the 6th grade class, are fine. It's just a bad pocket of parents with the 7th graders.  I guarantee you that you could find my analogy in every part of the country.

Anyway, hope everyone has a better day tomorrow.

Steve, get the hell out of there.

Good luck with your kids MIke.  Middle and high schools are getting worse all the time.  Kids are basically out of control fueled by the fact that there's no corporal punishment or real repurcussion for their actions.

Agreed.  Get in a fight and you get two free days off of school.  We had corporal punishment in my grade schools.  You learned early the action/reaction philosophy.  Honestly, I blame a lot of parents my age, 43, and younger.  They are so disassociated with their kids, their behavior, their activities, even their academia.  Too much self absorption.  They're more worried about what's happening on the phone, social page, etc.  It's pathetic really.

My wife see's it a ton with what she does.  At one point, half of my 7th graders entire grade was failing.  The kids don't care because the parents don't.

Yea, it seems that the bad actor here has quite the reputation. My daughter doesn't 'know' her and it would take some Paul Draking to find contact info for her parents so her Dad and I could have a chat.

Same with the fight at my daughters school.  One of the girls is the proverbial bully, bad apple.  Unfortunately, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  Kids have seen her Mom and it tells the story.  I'm with you though, if one of my girls would have gotten sucker punched I'd be fuming.  If you do have a chat, be careful.  You don't know what a lot of these moron's are capable of doing.  People on this forum, for the most part, seem to have a simple thing called logic.  This is an ability/trait that escapes many anymore.

  7. I don't think this has anything to do with BigStew's situation, that guy just sounded like a paranoid arse, but with the little/younger kids though my wife says it's Spring.  She works in our local school district helping troubled grade school kids get up to snuff with their education.  We were just talking about this a couple of days ago.  She says every Spring the fights begin to break out, aggression goes up, etc.

What prompted the conversation was that two girls at my daughters middle school got into a fist fight and some other kids caught it on video.  So, this time of year it could be a little hormone rage with bad parenting on top of it.

I recently purchased a RSB-11 soundbar. We've been very pleased with the audio quality and integration into our home theatre set up.

I've noticed video latency, maybe a frame to 1.5 frames (33+ ms) to the audio. The video is behind the audio.

I have an Xfinity cable box outputting audio and video via HDMI into the RSB-11 and then into our Sony TV.

I have recently updated the firmware for the RSB-11

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there a way to fix this?

Can delay be added to the audio signal to sync up with the delayed video signal?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    JOHN

We have Xfinity boxes on all of our systems and it's prevalent on all tv's, audio sources.  It also varies greatly depending on what channel we're watching.  For us CBS broadcasts are the worst.  We put a Samsung soundbar/sub in the living room for the wife and it has audio delay settings in it.  So, we can change the delay within the soundbar.  The drawback is that you could adjust it almost every time you change a channel.  As for a solution to your issue, first I would check to see if the Sony tv that you have has audio delay settings/control.

If it doesn't you may be unfortunately stuck with it the way that it is.  I did not see where the RSB-11 has any audio delay functions.  I could be wrong though.  If it (Sony) does, I would run my inputs as such; wall/cable box/tv/soundbar.  You would have to use the HDMI inputs though as I believe with an optical (toslink) output the audio delay feature on a tv will not work.  In other words, if the tv has audio delay capabilities I would use that to help correct the issue.  This particular issue has been around for awhile now and I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

  9. Okay, I know it's not a home theater pair, but back when I was 17, or 18, I had a fourth order push/pull sub box with dual Orion 10" XTR's in my Honda Accord.  I decided to buy an Audiocontrol Epicenter to strengthen/augment the sub input signal.  Those poor subs only lasted awhile longer.  They played great for a few days, until I noticed the output had dropped significantly and there was some weird clanging noise coming from the box.  We took the box apart and found that I had launched both cones right out of the surrounds.  It was a great couple of days though.

I've just discovered how expensive this stuff is to implement... I mean to treat a moderate sized room is going to be well over 1000$.

    Somehow, that seems ridiculous...

I've got a lot of wall space that can not be touched because it doubles as a liv8ng room where living takes place and art hangs on the walls.

I can see need ceiling treatment though.

Yeah, I saw that as well as far the prefab ones go.  There were some nice features on some of them, such as adding your own artwork to them, but for the cost it's not worth it to me.  In looking at some DIY panels, using the Rockwool material as Chris A had suggested, I figure that I could build the 4 panels I want for right around $100.

  11. @Schu @Chris A  So here's a 'cheapo' test that I did tonight.  I was waltzing by a downstairs bedroom and noticed a coupled of rolled up memory foam mattress pads from my girls beds.  They are the size of a single mattress as we bumped them to fulls recently.  Anyway, my little brain started churning.  The pads are about 1 1/2" thick and pretty dense.

I rolled them out on their sides from just behind the rear of each main, curving through the corner, out to the sides, extending past the front of the mains.  On their sides the pads were just taller than my cabinets from the floor up.  Played a couple of jazz, musical tunes, and what a difference.

The sound was warmer, cleaner, and more 'there'.  Less distractions in the music.  I pulled them down and listened to the same tracks and again a definite difference could be heard, but the wrong way.  Honestly, I wanted to put them back up but I know the wife wouldn't go for the pristine painter's tape/mattress pad install.

So, I suppose in my room some absorption panels are the way to go.  Each room is different obviously, but for me it's a place to start.  All I do know is I'm ordering some soon.

I thought my build thread was long until I saw this one.  It's looking great though!

Yeah, this is a little long.  I'm a first timer at the DIY sub kit for the home. I kept asking questions and the gents graciously kept answering.  They really helped me choose the path I went on.  I'm hoping to be finished in a couple of weeks.  Thanks for the compliments.  I'll post pics when it's done.  More to the point, I want to hear the d*** thing play!  Then I'm going to have questions on the INUKE setup....

  13. Very nice.  Really like the look of McIntosh gear, old school cool with a current twist, I can only imagine how it performs.  Congrats.  So, how does the brown truck thing work anyway?  Is it kind of like a stork?  Cause damn, I need one to drop by soon.  The brown truck, definitely not the stork.

  14. I posted a couple of pics on RTM this weekend so I figured I'd post them here since I started this thread awhile ago.  The cabinet was dusty when I took the pics as I didn't want to wipe it off since the third round of paint had only been curing for a few hours.  I will be laying down the first coats of clear next weekend.  I'm using the NLT4MP-BAG terminal (pictured) on the back of my cabinet.  It has the larger 1/4" terminal spades.

  15. I'm in the same boat now.  Moved some furniture to better the stage as Chris A. had suggested.  After moving the furniture the stage sounded much better.  I definitely notice an 'echo' in my room though.  Mainly, just a 2 channel setup.  I will be trying some absorption panels behind the mains and to the sides of each.  I'm expecting that it will smooth the sounds and soften the first wave reflections.  I read about a mirror technique to identify where the panels should be.  With my little setup it's pretty obvious where they should go.

It's actually a quilt drying on a covered pool table. The wind is blowing and my wife didn't want it dusty right after washing.

We downsized when the younger twins graduated college and moved out to begin adulting. The smaller house is presenting a challenge to my renewed hobby. My Heresys fit in the tv room, but the la scalas will not, so I have to get creative.

I know all about getting creative.  The wife is not overly happy with what I've done to our bedroom.  I'm still going though.  Pool table in a room with good tunes.  I could get into that.  We all have to make concessions to get the most out of what we have.  If it works, have fun with it.  Those mains are better than what I'm using.  If it sounds good to you, run with it.

  17. Love the bedroom setup.  That's where my 2 channel is at.  Moved furniture around today and have definitely bettered the image.  The bed should definitely act as a giant bass trap, or room treatment for those nasty first wave reflections.  I have a king size one right behind me.  Enjoy!

  18. I have an SVS sub that does the same thing.  If I'm going to be listening to it low I flip the toggle to 'On'.  Nature of the beast unfortunately.  Auto circuits need to feel enough of a signal to keep them running.  The way I look at it, keeps me from being lazy.  At least I'm getting up and moving to do something.  Another thought, sometimes I will boost the sub output level when listening low to keep it on.  You won't have to flip the subs 'on' and 'off'.  That way, you're feeding the subs enough signal to stay on.  You just have to remember to decrease the sub output before you run it normally.  Otherwise, you'll be in for a little surprise when you fire up a movie, etc.

  19. Second round of paint on the Umax today.  One more and then it's on to clear.  Can't wait to hear it.  I'm heady to the Rocky Mountains via Coors Light.  I'm so predictable, but consistent...

  20. Had a goat when I was kid, Huey.  Goats are great for mowing the lawn, leaving pellets, well everywhere, and when they get in the house the will eat everything in sight.  Magazines, plants, pillows, you name it they'll eat it.  Mine also used to like to use vehicles as mountain tops.  He'd jump up and get on top of the car and Baaaaaaahh forever.  He was my bud, kind of like a dog.

  21. For the most part, as others will correct me where I'm wrong, Class D amps are good for power but not as much for fidelity.  Class A/B amps will provide a better overall sound quality from my interpretation.  In other words, a sub amp will be relatively good with a Class D as you don't need quite as much precision as the upper frequencies yet need the horsepower to drive the low range.  The low Hz are only slightly more forgiving to where a Class D would be suitable.

When looking at a multi-channel receiver I would consider an A/B over a D.  I would go listen to a Marantz and some others, compare it to the SC-99, and if you find yourself benchmarking every other receiver against the SC-99 you may have found your AVR.  Good hunting...

What got me started was taking a junk AM radio, hooking it up to my 3-wheeler, and putting a single junk 6x9 speaker in a box I made out of plywood and nails, and strapping it to the rack with bungee cords. :)  Pretty sure I was 8, around 1984.

You and I are close in age then.  I'm a few years ahead of you.  I was in CA on about 10 acres and we had a couple of Honda 90's.  Folks wouldn't ever let me ride them, too dangerous.  Which does bring back a time when my Dad and I were riding up a hill on one and he kept telling me to lean forward.  Next thing I know, my Dad and the 3 wheeler are on top of me.  Thankfully, I was a portly little guy and had enough cushion to absorb the impact.  No harm done...

I'll bet that 6 x 9 custom enclosure sounded pretty good back then.  Until you realized it could sound better.
