  1. I use the Dayton sa1000, works perfectly, with a ton of headroom
  2. I used to just leave the subs constantly "ON", but it honestly really bothered me. from a longevity standpoint.
  3. I have two subwoofers that like many others, simply do not have a good auto turn on. Some auto turn ons either are not sensitive enough and require a very large bass tone to "wake up" the subwoofer or they time out after only a minute or so of very little bass. I decided to try out one of these. http://www.notestation.com/greenpowerstrip.htm I had tossed around this idea for a while, and found these guys on ebay for $20 shipped (and are on sale this weekend for $15.99 shipped which I missed out on) I simply plugged my receiver into the control outlet on this power strip, plugged my two subs into the slave outlets, did the calibration required on the power strip and was good as gold. Now my subwoofers (now switched to constantly "ON" ) turn on as soon as the receiver is turned on, and turn off as soon as the receiver is turned off. Just thought I would pass on this pretty inexpensive alternative for those that hate the idea of leaving your subwoofers constantly on but previously had no way around it.
  4. I thought I would do an update for anyone doing searches for people's experiences with the KG 3.2's. I decided on the KG 3.2's and couldn't be happier!
  5. Sounds like a bedroom theater just isn't for you CAS. I have no kids, and don't plan on having any any time soon. We only watch movies in the bedroom in the evenings, once we are going to bed for the night. We definitely listen at "tactile levels" which are easily reached with these KG 3.2's and these dual subwoofers [] No one else in the house to bother, I actually find myself a little torn between watching movies in the main home theater vs. the bedroom theater, it's a good problem to have []
  6. Where's the most comfortable spot in your house, most would say it's their bed. And on stormy/cold nights, the bedroom theater is a haven! It can also make date night with the wife a little more interesting []
  7. email sent. are you sure that your issue is being caused by a bad woofer?
  8. I had gotten a pair of KG 3.2 speakers a while back for the bedroom theater. About a month ago the wife and I got rid of old furniture and refurnished the bedroom which left the KG's without a shelf to sit on and very short on height, the hunt was on for speaker stands. The idea then occured to me that I could just get a second Klipsch SUB-12 and then use both subs as speaker stands, but I couldn't find a good price on another SUB-12. I then found a company called Acoustic Audio that has rock bottom prices for their subs, they sell on ebay and they sell on their own site. I did a little research, some people claimed that they were just white van speakers, and then I found this forum which has a TON of information from many people that were pretty happy with their Acoustic Audio subwoofer purchases. http://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers/85212-official-acoustic-audio-subwoofer-owners-thread.html I decided to get 2 of the RWSUB-15 subwoofers http://www.thedeepdiscount.com/p-3776-acoustic-audio-rwsub-15-600-watt-15-powered-subwoofer-home-theater-sub.aspx I bought each of them off of Acoustic Audio ebay page for the "best offer" price of $150 each with FREE SHIPPING. I read that the subs lacked enough poylfil, so I added extra polyfil, and then extended the legs to give the woofer and port more room to move/breathe. These subs really are very effective, and a bargain for such a low price. I have isolated the speakers by placing soft rubber pads between the KG's and the subs. I have the subs crossed over at 60 hertz to avoid vocals coming through the subs. These subs do have a low input sensitivity, so after tweaking them over the last couple of weeks I now have the gain on each of the subs at the 3 o'clock position and the sub output on the denon receiver at +6. The auto turn on feature on these subs times out after ~30 seconds, which in my opnion is about 10x too short. So I will be getting one of those "green" power strips to act as the auto turn on for these subs and just leave the subs switched to constantly "ON". Over all I am very happy with these inexpensive units, I have more than enough headroom with zero audible distortion, and some pretty deep extension. I couldn't ask for more from my budget bedroom theater!
  9. I have a SUB-12 woofer, let me know if you would like it.
  10. Interesting conversation. I let audissey do the eq correction for my room, and it is known that audyssey gives the subwoofer a gradually rising bass response as you go into the lower hertz. I use a Dayton amp that is known to do 500 watts into a 4 ohm load continuously (who knows what it does in short bursts) I have my tuba crossed over at 60 hertz, because at the main listening position I sit only 3 feet away from the tuba and it is harder to localize the bass at 60 hertz. I'm quite happy with my tuba, if I want louder "cleaner" bass than what I have then I will just build another tuba.
  11. I upgraded my bedroom theater. I used to have just one Klipsch SUB-12, but once I got rid of the ugly shelf that the KG 3.2's sat on, I needed speaker stands. After looking for good deal on another Klipsch SUB-12 for a while, I finally gave up and rolled the dice on dual Acoustic Audio RWSUB-15's. So far so good on the dual Acoustic audio subs. Only cost me $150 each.
  12. Hopefully you're using a different amp supplier than the one you were using for the Sub-10 and Sub-12. I hope Klipsch has learned its lessons with the past plate amplifiers!
  13. I agree, use the glue wisely. Once the Tuba is put together it will be nearly impossible to fix any annoying virbrations deep inside the folded horn. It would just kill me to finish such a project and end up not being able to use it because of some annoying vibrations. This reason is why I ended up using a TON of PL adhesive in my build.
  14. If using a nail gun you can do all the panels without waiting for any glue to dry. I understand if you don't have a nail gun (I was lucky enought to have a woodworking friend ) http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/128331/1298249.aspx#1298249 Make sure to have patience on finishing the bracing that is visible in the horn mouth, it is easy to get a little sloppy towards the end since you are so close to finishing and just want to be done!
  15. The Tuba HT can easily be built in a 4 day weekend. Not including the finishing (painting, or staining)
  16. plug the power cable of your subwoofer into a different circuit in your house, does the humming go away or change?
  17. Let me throw out my personal belief, in regards to speakers- I would audition and hopefully be able to listen to them in my own room before buying. With subwoofers- I would go with what the general consensus is about my room size vs. the speakers I have when trying to match my system with a subwoofer. I had never heard a Tuba HT before I built one, but I sure did do a lot of review reading and comparing my air space with other people. I wouldn't get so caught up with wanting to hear a subwoofer before buying it. I would just do a ton of research on forums to see what others are having success with and go with what matches with your needs. Our ears weren't really made to hear slight nuances in low bass tones, so even slight differences that we do percieve when listening to different subs can sometimes be just based on the environment we are hearing them in. Focus more on the tried and true models on trusted forums (like this one) with plenty of head room to meet your needs. Just my two cents.
  18. Better subs aren't about being over bearing or boomy, they're about being able to handle dynamic bass tracks, higher power handling, low distortion, and being able to reproduce lower frequencies
  19. If ever there was a market that is so super saturated with testosterone and youth and packed with brands just trying to offer the coolest looking stuff it would be car audio. I don't believe that Klipsch would do well trying to market their brand to the car audio community. I do think that they could do well owning a different brand that they push their speaker designs through, but wouldn't be sold under the Klipsch name. I do think that the car audio market is a saturated market, but that is just my opinion. The only way that I would see Klipsch getting involved is if they bought an exhisting brand that already had carved out a high quality car audio name for its self.
  20. Which is exactly why it was my first choice, a ton of headroom for the THT, EQ features that you don't find on every amplifier, a price that is undeniably awesome, and proven through extensive testing on AVS forum http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11318800#post11318800 (scroll up to post 232 to see the unboxing) Also something of note: Looking at the measured specs, it shows it supplying up to 44 volts, the THT with the dayton woofer in most home theaters will never even demand more than 30 volts during the most bass heavy movies.
  21. Took long enought for the cavalry to arrive, for a second I thought that everyone on the forum was drinking the koolaid like icon fan. I LOVE KLIPSCH, we all know they could design some AMAZING subwoofers if they wanted to, but they simply choose to go with safe, small, middle of the road designs.
  22. This amplifier is the one that I was origninally going with, but was backordered when I tried to order it. Very cost effective, very impressive feature set ( take a gander at the user manual) and tested well on the AVS forum sub amp thread. http://oaudio.com/500W_SUBAMP.html So this is the one I ended up going with, I liked the feature sets that the Oaudio amplifier had, and this one had a very similar feature set. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-811 The dayton tested out to have roughly the same output as the Oaudio amplifier on the AVS sub amplifier testing thread. I ended up paying about $100 for the Dayton, but I did like the fact that the Dayton could sit on my audio rack while the Oaudio one would have to either be mounted on the THT or I would have to make a box for the Oaudio to mount on to to sit on the audio rack.
