  1. Let me see what IBSlammin has after he checks his stasch. I wouldn't mind going to the black, I already have several yards from Bob, how do you remove the existing grills? Al, I never knew that listing to good audio for extended periods could cause hemorrhoids. CigarBum
  2. There is a little difference between the stock K-55 and the 260HZ wood one.
  3. As you can see from the attached pictures, I will attempt to put 10 pounds of stuff into a 5 pound bucket. I'm not sure if I need to raise the bridge or lower the river. Anyway, these are a 260HZ horn with a JBL 2446 driver, tweeter will be Beyma CP-25, crossover will be universal. Anyone have any conjecture of how these may sound when complete??? One of my main concerns is that I will be able to return my Southern Belles to original if need be. They have the no longer available brownish grill cloth and laser ID badge, 1974. As always, comments and opinions are appreciated.
  4. What in the world are you people doing up at this time at day, or night. Rock On. cb
  5. Your alive, able to think, and able to type, ain't nothing wrong with that brother. Got a lot more to be thankful for than some others. CigarBum
  6. I ain't no wire twister, but I think your electricity is OK. CB
  7. Mike, I believe your correct, going to have a big garage sale very soom, all the stuff that serves me no purpose, and yes the cats are complaining cb
  8. JC, now that's not good. Maybe just the old fashion way, a universal, for $299 I can build it myself. Thanks guys, the best response was, whatever put a smile on your face, and that be the truth. CB
  9. I guess the XR2001 is the 3 way, and the route to go. Price is about $400, the price of a good passive crossover. CB
  10. Dave, I have read the thread about the active crossovers, that stuff is getting WAY over my head. cb
  11. I remember a long time ago, I have seen them, mostly for cars. Had no clue they were made by Klipsch. cb
  12. Hey Rich, I already all the parts, just trying to decide what will sound the best. Whaatever changes I make I still want the ability to put it back to stock. If there would be a significate difference, I will just build and complete new HF cabinet, allowing the use of the 260HZ wood horn/JBL 2446 and a Beyma CP25 tweeter. I guess you have to keep in mind that the ALK is 1" and my 260HZ is 2" Just looked at the Belles, how do you remove the bass bin grills?????? for replacement. I would really like to try a active crossover, what is out there that won't cost a ton, let's say under $300???? CB
  13. I am still having a difficult time in making a decision about what combination to use in my Belle upgrades. I have the choice of using one of the following: a 260HZ wood horn (about 11.5 x 24) with a JBL 2446 driver or a ALK trachorn (about 8 x 17) with a GPA 902-16. I'm sure there will be a difference, but can anyone tell me how much, better, worst. One choice will require a change to the HF cabinet (taller) or just changing the motor board. The crossover will be a ALK Univerdal Comments and recommendations will be appreciated. CigarBum
  14. Up here in the mountains, you really don't have a choice. My tank (400 Gal) was filled yesterday, price $2.79.9 per gal. I do have a nice big fireplace, to have a cord of wood delivered, about $225, I'm sorry, these folks don't know the difference between a cord, face cord or anything that equates to 128 cu ft of burnable wood, oh well. CB
  15. I have a pair of 1974 Belle's, the grill cloth looks the same as the basic black but has a brown thread running through it. I'm sure this is original but can't seem to find any that would match. I have it in my mind to make some changes to these, like putting a bigger wooden horn and driver. I could use Al's trachorn but would still mess up the HFcabinet cloth or a 260HZ wood horn, I would like to use the JBL 2446 driver, this would require extending the verticle riser, no biggie but either way I will need to replace the grill cloth, I would like it to match the bass bin. Any help would be appreciated. CB
  16. Well I am almost to the conclusion the I will have to build a new HF cabinet to put on top of the Belles bass bin, or I guess I could retain the original Belle configuration and use Al's trachorn, I think that will fit. I intend to use the JBL 2446 on the back end, with the Beyma 25 for the tweeter My DBB has the 225 HZ wood horn with the JBL 2482 and a JBL 2404, that is some kind of sweet. I really don't know how much difference in sound there will be between the original K-500 Belle horn and the Klappenberger horn and the 260 HZ that I built, all using the JBL 2446 driver. Has anyone ever tried this???????? CB
  17. Either you need some new shocks on the red tractor or you have been using it for flat track racing. CB
  18. As you can see, I have several options to chose from.
  19. Now what I am trying to do is figure how to get these in a pair of my Belles. You can do it but I'm afraid that I will mess up my Southern Belles, such pretty little girls. I may just built a seperate HF cabinet to sit on top and do some testing sith different components.
  20. Deafby Khorns, no they won't fit, a shame because they sound outstanding. If you shave just a touch off these, they would fit. These are some that I have built, 12" x 24" + - Just a hint, the guys who say horns are a piece of cake, don't believe them, these things are a pain in the butt, that is if you want the true tractrix horn. When I built these, I made 3 sets, allowing for me to screw up two sets, I surprised myself, they all came out pretty nice.
  21. Well, it's time to come out of the closet with my newest project. First I need to give thanks and appreciation to JC and IBSLAMMIN and many thanks for all the support and guidance in this project. I started with the basic DBB, plans and comments have been widely posted, the HF cabinet started with the ALK trachorn with a GPA 902-19 on the back and the Beyme CP25 for a tweeter. Although I don't have any test equipment, they sound pretty darn good, then JC put the bug in my ear that I needed a bigger horn and driver.I believe all the comments on the forum about bigger wood horns are better, ah, yes they are. So originals were replaced with a big 225HZ wood horn with the JBL 2482 driver and a JBL 2404 tweeter, these are all being powered by VRD's and a Peach. Gentleman and ladies, these things sound wonderful, at least to my old ears. From another un-named post, I just wish I had some test equipment to see what the numbers say, I can't justify the purchase for one set of speakers. Does anyone have some traveling test equipment that could stop up and give a listen. I will attach some pictures, I just have these setting on top of the DBB and haven't decided how to finish them off, any suggestions, I kind of like the looks of that big ol horn sitting there, and wire management needs to be addressed. Listening impressions: this is compared to the original set up. Huge sound stage, better imageing, better seperation, bigger sound. I have tried several different styles of music and I am still hearing things that I have never hears, almost to the points of more of the faults, lips touching mike and fingers moving on instruments. I still want to do some A/B testing between components, and continue changing some of the other stuff in my Khorns, I think the only things I want to try is change the stock mid driver for a JBL 2470, I have two different diaphrams I want to try and use one of ALK universal XO, then there are the Belles, undecided at this point, I am open for suggestions. I will continue to add to the thread as I change components. Again I want to thank all for the suggestion and help given to me in the process, and lastly to PWK for the inspiration to look at different ways to make good sound. Just as a heads up, there will be a big yard sale in the near future of all the parts I don't need. If you have any questions, please use my email as it a lot easier to attach more pictures. rgreene@hemc.net CigarBum
