  1. In my quest for the selection of a driver for wooden horns, I'm not sure I understand what I'm looking for. It seems that JBL would be a good choice if you can find them at a reasonable cost. The ones that I have seem used are the following: 2482, 2440, 2441, 2445, 2446, and for a 1" the 2470. The first five are 2", the horns I will be using are the 260 and 225. I am assuming, to take advantage of the wooden horn you want a driver that goes almost as low as the horn, the only driver in the bunch that goes to 300hz is the 2482, the rest are at 500hz. Am I correct that another way to compensate for not having a driver that goes as low as the horn is to use an extreme slope crossover. There are probably other drivers that fit into the mix, as the BMS 4592, but the cost exceeds my point of dimishing returns, at almost $1000 per pair is more than I really wish to pay. Would appreciate any comments and opinions on the subject Thanks CB
  2. Hey Kev, where did you fine the D405 drivers with the Phenolic diaphragms? Let me know how they sound. I also have been looking for some good cost effective mid drivers for some wod horns (225 and 260) don't want to have to take a 2nd on the house. CigarBum
  3. US Army, 1966 - 1968, Viet Nam 1967. Two Purple Hearts and Bronze Star. Some of you folks are truly blessed, said it wasn't bad, well it was bad and I didn't have any fun -at all. CigarBum
  4. They sure do look purdy, and sound even better I suspect. Real nice build. I am still amazed by the number of expert craftsmen we have on this forum, the work they do is truly outstanding. Hats off to you all. CB
  5. I would also be interested because I have been looking for some cost effective alternatives. I'm an old man and really wonder if you did a A B test with the K-55/405T/Tad/JBL 2470 if I could really hear the difference, my ears are like old tin cans any way. CB
  6. Dean, you will be getting a PM in a short. cb
  7. I read the book to see how to insert pictures. A picture of Bambi, Thumper is on the other side
  8. Dean, like usual I don't know what I am doing. I guess just looking for good parts in case I do decide to build something. I am in the process of building some wooden horns, what a pain in the butt. I got a little carried away and started with two,but decided you can build six about a quick, there about 10" x 24". As for the crossover, they still like in Bambi and Thumper, picture attached, I'm actuall trying to learn a little about crossovers.Having a problem attaching a picture, got Windows 7 now and don't know how to use it. CB
  9. Just out of curiosity, and to get some of opinions of the folks that are building your own horns or change out of drivers. I am trying to get an idea of the value created by the different drivers, I can to get to the point of diminishing returns, at my age very quickly. So please get me your opinions of these: both 1" and 2" drivers for the horns, Tad, very good but too expensive, $1400 each. BMS, good but still a little pricey at $475 each, them there is the JBL 2470 and several others that can go from cheap to expensive. Instead of listing all the drivers in the world, let's just say that, for me the top price for a real good mid-range driver should be $500, again I'm looking for value and because I'm not one of you golden eared devils, just an old man. The prices are for new drivers, not sure what the price would be for used equipment, but considably less. Is there anything wrong with the original Klipsch K55. Then there are the tweeters, what's good? Right now I have in my DBB HF, Great Plains 902-16 and Beyma C25, both seen to be very acceptable, but can I get better, cheaper? Will appreciate all your opinions on the matter. CigaraBum
  10. Dave, horns are doing fine, the crossovers, well not even started yet. Been feeling a little poorly lately, high blood presure and high blood sugar, so haven't been doing much cb
  11. Sounds like maybe my next project. Have to get done with my horns first. If anyone has the particulars on this speaker I would appreciate them. I like this idea, just because it's a smaller speaker, man I have run out of room with KHorns, DBB, Belles and a pair of Cornwalls. CB
  12. As I sit here enjoying one of those wonderful cigars, I am so glad the cabinets have found a good home. It sounds like you have some pretty good components in there and I bet they do sound real good also. Enjoy my friend, it has been a pleasure CigarBum
  13. If you do a search under Cornscala you will find a whole bunch of builds, sizes, shapes different componets, they all sound good. You will find the pair I build in there somewhere. Have fun. CigarBum
  14. I do have a few friends have hunt A LOT, so far they have given me two deer, I chose not to shoot Bambi, but don't have a problem with anyone who does. I could shoot all the deer, bear, boar or turkey sitting on my front porch. Anyway, you be amazed how little actual jerky youy get from a deer, most up here dress out at between 75 and 125 lbs. The last one I picked up from the deer cooler (processing place) I only got about 3 lbs of jerky and about 9 lbs of what they call summer meat, it's real good. I'm not sure they don't keep a little for themselves. So when Bambi runs out I'll go to the local mear store and get a roast or what ever is recommended and dehydrate myself. So if anyone has purchased on of these things, please let me know. Thanks CB
  15. Has anyone had any experience in making this stuff, specifically the type or kind of Food Dehydrater. I don't want to go crazy here but get a decent dehydrater that will last a while. Appreciate your input CigarBum
  16. Can anyone tell if the physical location of the crossover within the HF cabinet is important? In looking at some of the locations and the relative distance to any of the drivers has any adverse effect on the caps, coils, etc. or the sound. CigarBum
  17. I own two, the first one is a 2008 Infinity FX35. I have had the crossover for about a year and a half, only has 5200 miles, I don't drive it much, it's my Sunday Go To Meeting. The rest of the time I drive Jester, he's my 2001 Jeep Wrangle with 127,000 mile, I love that thing. Six cyl, auto, 22 MPG CB
  18. I was stationed there in 1966 before being deployed to Viet Nam. Good memories there, but then they got worst. CB
  19. My wife is always gone, oh, that's right I divorced her, Oh Silly Me. CB
  20. I also have a MC275, I have run it with my Cornwalls, Bells,Cornscalas and KHorns. In one word "WONDERFUL, all of them Enjoy CB
  21. Tom, I believe it was 500. cb
  22. You guys ask me the hardest questions, you should know by now that I do not have a clue of what I'm doing. I'm just finishing up my latest project (DBB) and trying to line up something else to do. As of yet, I don't know how they will sound, but as good as they say, I hope. I have almost come to the conclusion that you can build and build different speakers based on Klipsch design and not get a whole better than the KHorn. I have Cornwalls, Belles, Cornscalas, KHorns and now the DBB. Again not knowing what the DBB will sound like, my point of reference is my enhanced KHorn, enclosed backs, Crites tweeter, trachorn and Crites networks, I'm sorry, it does not get any better. If the DBB don't come up to my liking, I'm sure they will, I think I will just buy another pair of KHorns. Anyway, back to horns, I always thought bigger the better. If I understand the comments the K510 will sound better that the Altec horns, I don't believe I have ever seen any for sale, how much are they and the K69 driver, I know the Altec can be had for about $100 a pair plus some decent drivers. As always, all comments are welcomed. CB
  23. Are any of the following horns better that the others, maybe have a 2 way system in mind Klipsch - 400 ( out of KHorn) Altec H-811B Altec 511B I know it may depend on a lot of different variables, but just in general Thanks. CB
  24. I did manage to get a bunch of Bob Crites red and black wire, never seen it marked like that, also good wire CB
