  1. Jim, I had a talk with Emminence a while back about the K-33E. They make it just for Klipsch and it's not for sale to the public under another code name. Emminence also said that they don't make anything close that they would suggest using in the Klipschorn. I'm about ready to order another pair of K-33E's from klipsch. The surrounds on one of my pairs are startng to wear thin. Just thought I would pass on the information to you. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  2. I for one enjoy John Warrens comments. They give me a laugh & also serve to keep us on are toes. Sometimes they make you view things a little different. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  3. Mikekid is right. I use LaScalas, they sit on top of K-horns & about one foot behind & to the far side of the K-horns. By rights the LaScalas should be farther back & to the sides more. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  4. Horn Ed & Wired 1 As Steve stated, loudness isn't the objective here, and that can be controled with the volume control. I must admit it would sound better to place the rear speakers another 6' behind the main listening area. A new room is in the planning stages as mentioned in another post. I bought another pair of Klipschorns that I plan to use as front and rear center channel speakers. The front one will have a screen in front of it. This new set-up requires a new room which Horn Ed is talking about. Horn Ed, I'll try to provide a drawing of this new room soon. I almost have the additon drawn up. It requires taking the roof off an existing part of the house for a second story. The largest I can get it is 20x39x10' cath. ceiling. It's 32' from front to rear stage because of all the Klipschorn corners, or niches. The present room is 15.5x27x8' cath. ceiling, but since it's open to the kitchen you have to add another 15.5x20' since that's really the cubic feet of the room. But the new room will be 1972 cubic feet larger then the sum of the present room plus the kitchen, which is a plus. Something about the present room sounds so right, I still get goose bumps. I don't want to loose that, so I'm trying to figure out what it is. I've been testing some different wall constuction technics. The present room has a concrete slab floor and three block walls with 1.5" firing strips, insulation, and 0.5" dry wall. I can turn the volume up in the room to read 110 dB on a sound level meter, then go outside and place my hands on the walls behind the Klipschorns and feel only a slight vibration and barley hear anything. In another part of the house where I have stud walls I played a system at less volume and went to the outside of the walls to see what I could feel and hear. The siding was more then vibrating, it was actually moving. The sound was muffled, but loud. I can't have this, or I might end up having neighbor problems. Worse yet, I think all that vibrating will lead to room distortion. If I add this theater room upstaris on floor trusses with stud walls I think I'll end up being uphappy with it. I don't have the room to add it on the ground floor. I might have to build another house with a seperate home theater room connected to the main house by only a hall way. Something like a detatched garage. Then I can have a slab floor and block walls. I like and hate the idea. I like the room idea, but hate thinking of the extra money. A new house will be conciderably more and I don't know if I'm prepared for that. In two years I'm undertaking a business venture. My accountant says not to worry, that he has investers to back me, not sure I can believe that. I think I better find a good business attorney this week and get his opinion before I spend more then I should. I'll keep you posted. Let me know what you think about those SVS CS-ULTRA Subwoofers. I am thinking about a pair myself for the new room. Then I will use my present Sunfire Signature for a center channel only sub. ------------------ Q-Man This message has been edited by Q-Man on 06-17-2001 at 11:16 AM
  5. I use the Sunfire Signature with Klipschorns & LaScalas. I like it a lot. It not only can keep up with them it can get way too loud & over power them if you don't set it right. It is a sub that once you get the crossover set, you never have to change it. That's not true with the volume control. You have to adjust it for different material. It should have a remote control. 6. I see that here in Florida, that Sound Advice is advertising them. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  7. Horn Ed, Look under Odds & Mods, Q-mans system. I brought up an old post that shows you the current set up. I will post drawings of the new room as I get further along. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  8. Horn Ed, A view of my present set up. Q ------------------ Q-Man
  9. Dougdrake, Your right. The front center channel niche will go from floor to ceiling, because of the screen. The front main speaker corners (niche) will be silghtly higher then the Klipschorns. They will also be held off the back wall about 3 1/2'. This is required to toe them into the sweet spot & to also provide shelves for the LaScalas hooked up to the front effect channels. The rear set up is about the same, but all 3 niches will be the same height, just above the Klipschorns. The rear center aimed stright ahead. The left & right rears aimed more towards eash other. Then this too provides me with a ledge to place a second pair of rear speakers aimed down the side walls, another pair of LaScalas. This is still in the planning stages. I have rough plans drawn & made my first call to the local building code department today. I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but I got a good deal on another pair of Klipschorns that are within driving distance. I wasn't going to start this project for another year or two, but here we go. MacKlipsch, If I understand your question correctly. Yes, you set all your speaker to the same volume as your mains. You do this with a sound level meter from your main listening spot. Q. ------------------ Q-Man This message has been edited by Q-Man on 06-04-2001 at 07:12 PM
  10. I just picked up another pair of Klipschorns, for just that reason. One will be for the center channel with a screen in front of it for a front projector. the other one will be used for a center rear channel. This means I'll be building a new room that will give me six 90 degree corners, and not necesarily in the corners. Figure that one out. 11. I think I too got a good deal on ebay. I just bought another pair of Klipschorns. They are 8 years old and I got them for $1950.00 . I have to go pick them up Thur., a 200 mile drive from where I live. I've never seen a pair with the AK-3 networks go so cheap. Q ------------------ Q-Man
  12. Alright guys, I have a few questions. But, first of all let me say, nice job Jeff. After talking to Mark F. some time back, I picked up a pair of Altec 288-16K drivers and 805-B horns. I also bought a pair of the JBL 2404H high frequency drivers that Jeff is using. And yes I have a pair of AL's networks. I was going to use the above with the Jensen Imperial base horn cabinet or another home design base horn that I have been working on.The reason hear is that the 288-16K drivers & 805-b horns cut off at 500Hz. The Klipschorn cabinet cuts off at 400Hz.while the Imperial reaches 600Hz. Al's network also crosses over at 400Hz. A while back I asked AL if he could design a network for me that would crossover at 500 to 600Hz. and maybe again at 8,000 to 12,000Hz. My question is for Mark, Jeff and AL. Arn't you guys missing something in the 400 to 500Hz range? Or am I missing something here? The 288-16K has a frequency response of 500Hz. to 15,000Hz. 109 SPL measured at 4' from the mouth of the horn with 1 watt input of pink noise. Power compacity 15 watts continuous. After getting these specifications from Altec, I'm also worried about the drivers low power capacity. The JBL tweeter on the other hand can handle 40 watts. 13. RX-V2092, Klipschorns & LaScalas. System in dead quiet. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
  14. I too am hooked on Yamaha's front effect channels. I have the older model, RX-V2092. I'm ready to buy the RX-V3000. It offers 8 channel stereo , DVD Audio capability & a center rear channel. All of which mine is lacking. How do you like the RX-V3000 ? Q.
  15. A pair sold on ebay for around $3000.00, six to 12 months ago. Q.
  16. Allan, Thanks for the tip. I just checked Filament Audio. They have diaphragms for community drivers ($149.00), but they don't have the drivers. I'm not modifying my Klipschorns and LaScalas. This is a new build project. Q.
  17. DJK, Where can I find this Community M200? I just bought a pair of Altec 288-16K drivers & Altec 805-B Horns to try. They have 1 1/4" throats. I may want to try 2" throuths after reading this stuff. Q.
  18. Johns Albright is giving you good advice. If & when you get into home theater, then get more LaScalas. Right now you need a good sub, Q.
  19. I never talk about my passion unless asked,& that is very very rare. Even then I hold back , because I usually see a look of boredom come over their faces. Those who know what I have & what I do blame my so - called insanity on loud music. They figure that's what must have scrambled my brains. My wife has grown accustomed to the UPS truck pulling up to the door. But! when I mentioned to her that I might go to Hope , she too decided that my banana plugs must be loose. Q.
  20. The Yamaha RX-V3000 has an 8-channel stereo mode. Q.
  21. The Jubilees are better looking then all you guys put together. This is for the members of this board that went on this trip and own Klipschorns. Or those at Klipsch familiar with the K-horn. Is it time to sell our Klipschorns and move up to the Jubilee? Or can we still live with our Klipschorns and be able to sleep at night, knowing that the Jubilee is out there. I know no dealer will have both speakers in their showroom for us to A-B them. So, I'm counting on your opinion. Q. Q.
  22. All Right, All Ready. Were all jealous. Now if you could post some names to go along with all those ugly faces in those pictures, it would be nice. Q.
  23. You can't do what Ray suggest. Klipschorns crossovers arn't like LaScala & Belle crossovers. There arn't any terminal blocks & screws, everything is soldered. You have two crossovers, the high freq. crossover you can see in the top horn section. The low freq. crossover you can't see, it's inside the bass horn cabinet. It's connected to the back of the screw on door, this door is on the left hand side of the speaker & is about 20" x 20". I don't think you need to remove it, let's try something first. The fuse holders are where djk stated,to the left of this door. First lets make sure that you have them wired right. This input panel has two pairs of inputs on it. Mine are bananna plug inputs, yours may be older models with another type of input connection. Eather way the upper pair are colored red & black, this is where you hook up or plug in the wire coming from the high freq. drivers in the upper cabinet. The two inputs below these is where you hook up the speaker wire coming from your amp. The bass horn fuse is on this same input panel to the right of the speaker wire conections. With the bananna plug connections it would be hard to hook these speakers up wrong. If you have screw on terminals you could have them wrong. Do you have the speaker wire hooked up to the same place that you have the high freq. wire ?This would bypass the bass horn & all you would hear in the high end. I'm guessing this is how you have them hooked up if the fuse is O.K. . The speaker wire from your amp first feeds the bass horn x-over inside the cabinet. From there that x-over is wired to the inputs that feed the high freq. drivers in the upper cabinet. Again , this is where you hook up the wire coming from the upper horns. This is where you can do what Ray suggest. Unplug the wire coming from the x-over that you can see in the top of the cabinet & leave it unplugged for now. Connect the speaker wire to the two lower holes or terminal connections. Now you will just have the lower bass section horn hooked up,& you should just be hearing the lows.If you don't hear anything check the fuse to the right of the speaker wire connections. Try this , & reply. If the fuse & or the way you had your connections didn't solve the problem then we will have to look inside the bass horn cabinet. Q.
  24. Those are the older woofers that John is showing.I took a pair of those out of my 1975 LaScalas & replaced them with the newer K-33-E's. The newer ones have the traditional looking round magnet. All my other LaScalas & Klipschorns have the round magnet version. They are all post 1989 models. My square magnet woofers say K-33P, yes (P). Q.
  25. Keep us updated on what you think of these subs. I've been thinking of trying a pair. I may put one next to eash of my front K-horns & use my Sunfire Signature for a center channel only sub. Do you know if they came up with a quiet amp yet? Q. What are you using for mains?
