  1. Nice rack- I said that to a waitress today at lunch an almost got slapped!!!! At least somebody got something good out of CC. Houma- La- greatest duck hunting in the USA- I love the place!!!!
  2. Rosie??? LMAO- GREAT!!!!!!! You guys all missed it It is the iron in the frying pan which wifey uses on your head when you roll a set of heritage speakers in the front door.
  3. Drinking and listening go pretty d--- good together. Get out of that betty ford place NOW!!!!! The room acoustics are terrible and the power supply is questionable. +1 on the Cohiba- Going to pick up a box of cuban Robustos in 10 mins.
  4. On deck for tonite- Chateau Les Cardinaux 2000 Bordeaux- looks like a second growth from one of the big boys. The 2000 Bordeaux are really kicking @ss about now. This one should be delicious- best of all - it was FREE!!!
  5. OK I am back again mooching off my friends for free information. Too broke to pay somebody who knows what they are doing. Spent all my money at the garage on speakers. Here's the deal. I now have a Definitive PF-15 sub. Old technology out of the 80s or 90s. No manual. Not bad but not up to my other stuff. I have an RSW- 15 arriving next week. Should I keep both subs or lose the PF-15? Given the details below- how should I set up the large/small speaker settings and crossover frequencies? A million thanks in advance for any input. Sony HT reciever-DA4300ES- using pre outs Front- K horns- Carver A753-250 WPC Center- RC64(looking for Lascalla)- 3rd channel of the carver 250 WPC Rear- Lascallas- B&K EX4420- 200 WPC Surround- Cornwalls- HK 780- 150 WPC Sony 550 Bluray The listening area is 14wide x 25 long. Lots of clutter(working on that)- TV is on 14' wide front wall along with components - also front k horns in 2 front corners. center is on a shelf 30" high below TV. Couch is 15 feet from front wall. Cornwalls-surrounds are right beside the couch. Lascallas- rears are on the back wall-8-10 feet from couch. The system is totally ridiculious for the room and I could not be happier so this is not a problem situation. I just want to tweak everything to get the max from the new sub/subs.
  6. Excellent subject and one that bears discssion. I buy- sell- trade lots of different stuff on several levels from nickel and dime stuff to national auction grade items. Lots of collectible guns-Rolex watches-custom knives-ect. I buy stuff mostly word of mouth because lots of folks know that I am a ready source of quick cash and I will pay more than pawn shops. So When people approach me with stuff to sell I will tell them right up front as to my interest in the item vs the market value. If it is something that I can move quickly Iwould typically pay 50-80% of market value and everybody is happy. Sometimes the offer is as low as 15 cents on the dollar if the item will take some time to move. That's 5 cents more tha the pawn shops pay.I will make some pretty low offers on Craigslist because it is basically a forum for bottom feeders both in terms of buyers and sellers. This is where i dump my unwanted items when I have not been able to sell something. I will typically list something for half of e-bay price and it goes quickly. The term"Lowballers and scammers will be politely ignored" along with firm prices will filter out a lot of this. You would not believe the people who look at a Blue book of Gun Values or similar publication and expect to get top dollar for their less than desirable items. And then they get royally hacked off when the offer does not meet the book value. Horse traders like myself get stuck with items and have to dump them at a loss-that is the other side of the coin.before I make any low offer i would first tell the potential seller that I would be interested in the item ONLY as low ball offer before I would ever state a price. Believe me- I have had some offers for my items that are more ridiculious than the one mentioned in the beginning of the thread. I have seen and heard so much that I just laugh when I hear this stuff. There is a right way and a wrong to state your point and a ridiculious offer without a qualifying statement would more evidence of stupidity and a lack of manners on the part of the buyer rather than am assumption of ignorance on the part of the seller.I had a guy offer me 1000.00 for a Rolex Submariner recently that I sold on the 2nd inquiry for 3500. Yes. they are out there. Just laugh at their ignorance and ignore them. The garage is a forum for friends and anyone who would make any kind of offer like that is an @ss.I have spents thousands( OMG did I really do this??) on this forum. Everything that I have bought has been within a few bucks of if not the exact asking price. If there is a statement like"I have to sell- this all offers considered"- thats another ball game. But if anyone offered 2000.00 for a 5000.00 item worth 10 k- then they should tarred and feathered. Hope that was not here.
  7. Just watched Max Payne- Blu - Ray on this system and OMG- Everything worked so perfectly- the Cornwall surrounds sounded like the MP5 sub-machine guns were popping off rounds in my living room. The lacalla rears carried the doors slamming and the choppers flying from back to front. The k horn fronts were just in the words of a guest-- Absurd.....The RC64 center- soon to be changed out- carried the mail to a fault but not exactly what I need for the horns. The RF15 Definitive sub will be replaced by a RSW 15 next week... but did extremely well for now at high voulme levels. Not yet perfect but the pre owned hand me down heritage stuff is absolutely ridiculious for this HT application. I am telling you like a friend.. this is the most bang for the buck. Jaw dropping performance for box store prices.
  8. Yes Pyro- those are the k- horns of my dreams. By far the best pair I have ever seen on the garage. All I can say is WOW. Somebody with the cash should step up to the plate and own these beauties. Sorry you are gettimg rid of them. They deserve a good home.
  9. Agree totally about the bass/surround/Cornwalls- I bought the cornwalls first- then the K horns and the lascallas. They do a killer job as surrounds as their top section is very adequate. I have only heard 1 set of Hereseys/ no Fortes- and I am sure they are both more than up to the task. Cornwalls seem to be the most available in this price range and very easy to re -sell if you choose to change something. They will also work for just about any application in any system. I swap some banana plugs around- pull them out into the middle of the room and play them as fronts on occasion in my 2 channel Mac setup. 3 good examples of low buck pre owned Heritage stuff in awesome sounding systems
  10. 2nd bottle of Shazzamm- or whatever the h--- it is- Kenney Wayne Sheppard on the k horns- Does it get any better?? I dont think so,
  11. We get caught up in "stuff' too often. This sounds way too familiar to my own expierences with terminally ill friends who I thought the world of. Prayers to you- Dale - and his family.
  12. I am not here to debate heritage vs reference. I have owned and loved reference stuff since 2001. See my many posts expressing my approval of this great line of equipment. At some point I hope to build the ultimate 7 series reference system with all old Phase linear 700s or Carvers in my den. I have recently put together a pretty decent heritage system. I sat down and added up the damage and I was pleasantly surprised at the bottom line vs the result. So ... If you are ready for a puff from the crack pipe read on. Otherwise do the smart thing and click to mouse to a different section of the forum. Ever since I was a teenager hanging out in the local stereo shops and spending every dime on I could beg borrow or steal on albums, I have wanted a set of heritage speakers. could not afford it- settled for Altec Segovias, ESS Heil towers, and JBLs diriven by Sansui integrated amps.About 5 months ago I decided to heck with it- Im gonna buy me some k horns. I joined this forum and started doing some research. I was listening to a reference system and I was hard pressed to jump ship. On a wild hair I answered an ad from Cigarbum and decided to ride doen to ga and listen to his Mac amp and his Cornwalls. From the first note from those Cornwalls through that delicious Mac 275 I knew where this was going. I was screwed. I bought his Cornwalls and evntually a then a set of K horns and lascallas from Coytee. Tonite i bought a RSW 15 sub and I am still looking for a single Lascalla for a center. I am in 7th heaven listening to this setup both for 2 channel music and HT. HT took some time adjusting and tweaking as I still have an RC64 center bit is is sounding unbelievable. When i get the sub next week it will be even better. So bottom line- what does it cost to get into a other worldy Ht system with heritage monsters? When you add it up the results amy surprise you. Panasonic plasma 780 p 1000.00- remember- we are saving money here-great bang for the buck K horns- fronts 1600- 2200- maybe less than perfect appearance- all over e-bay- craigs and the garage Cornwall surrounds( if 7.1)- 700 pr- absoulte no brainer Lascallas- rears- 750 .00pr- widely available on e- bay craigs or here- Cornwalls will also work- personal pref Single Lascalla or Cornwall center 400.00- this one requires patience- still waiting on mine SVC or other comparable new/used sub- 800.00 High end flagship HT reciever- Sony, Marantz, Denon, or wahtever you like- demo or last years model- 800.00 3- 2 channel power separates- mono running center- off E-bay- Crown- Cavrer- B&K- HK-or whatever you like 1600.00 Sony 550 blue ray- 300.00 another no brainer So you have roughly 8300.00 in a system that sounds like 25 grand or more...Sure this is a rough draft with many variables. But when you consider what the used market has to offer it is a real show stopper. The 30 grand systems in ths showrooms pale by comparison. And smart shoppers can sell out without losing money if necessary. Food for thought.
  13. The MADNESS continues- Bought a RSW 15 sub off the garage today. I am sick. help me.
  14. Oh Yeah- I forgot to share this one-bought this one to get out of deep $hit with wifey after I bought the k horns and lascallas on the same day champagne Burt philipponnat - royal reserve- must be NV because i cant find a year on the bottle. very rich buttery and fruity- not a lot of chalk 50 bucks a pop. a solid 9.5. Dean & Delucia sold out in this crummy economy if that tells you anything. Home run
  15. Thumbs up on the Falesco!!!!!!!!!!! This has one of my go to secrets since 2001 when I discovered it. BARGAIN ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CLEARY RANCH GROWERS RESERVE SHIZZZZAM 2004 Label is stupid--- name is just plain dumb At 38 bucks fromt line it crashed and burned At 18.00 in the bargain bin you are partying like a Kennedy The stuff is delicious- dark jammy Sonoma fruit- very well made. Dont miss this one-- worth looking for and asking about. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
  16. Thanks for the offer. I am knee deep in buying an RSW 15 sub at present and have not even unpacked the yamaha. Will definitely consider it when digging into that can of worms. First I gotta find a place to put it.
  17. JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My buddy ran out of room and gave me 3 cases of wine last night. A mixture of grenache- bordeaux-cote d rhone and some other goodies He has better dtuff to drink-one of the perks of working for a wine shop Opening up a nice Spanish 2001 Las Gravas tonite with baby back ribs- can't wait
  18. A few additions to previous comments. I had bookshelf speakers- Rb61s and Rb81s in a 7.1 system mounted high on the wall firing down toward the listening area upon the advice of the tech service service people at klipsch given my room situation. It sounded great and quite frankly with the set of Rf 83s I had hooked up for a day- was maybe the best reference system that I have ever heard. I would have really liked to hook up a set of rs 62s on the side to check them out but that option was not available without buying them. I am sure that any of the RS series would fit your needs very well if you decide to go in that direction. With the reference stuff you are condsidering- power is everything. Unless you have to have to have the latest whiz bells and whistles bang streaming function receiver, consider this course of action. Look around for a flagship the previous generation of receivers- like a Sony 5300ES, Denon, Marantz,or other brands popular on this forum.Look for a discontinued model or a floor model demo-- for about 40-50% of retail- with a warranty Another trick is to pickup some pre owned separate power amps off e-bay for a song. Crowns- Carvers- B&Ks. Worlds of difference for nickels and dimes. Have not heard the outlaws but definitely worth considering based on the opinions expressed on this forum. I did a ton of research and comparison on the Rf83s for several months. I listened to 3 different sets at a buddys house, at my house, and at the dealer. Three different recievers and two different power amps ranging from 150- 250 WPC. When I started looking at the 83s I read a description somewhere- Vanns I think-describing the 83 as "very efficent even at low volumes". This got my attention and was one of the primary deciding factors in choosing this speaker. This would imply that an average or low end HT receiver would drive the 83s just fine. That may be true to some extent but I came away -after extensive listening and consideration that the Rf83 needs power- a lot of power. I had several conversations with the tech support folks at klipsch and i could never get them to say that this was an efficent speaker. They said that this speaker was for the person who likes louder volume levels with increased performance. The speaker is absolutely phenominal with say a 200 WPC amp driven at medium to higher volume levels. It sounded perfectly acceptable with the 100 WPC HT receiver but the 250 watt Carver hookup was definitely an OMG moment.IMHO the speaker is designed for the mid- higher volume levels and deserves the best very solid state amplifiers that the owner can afford.I liked the speaker so much that I relented on finding something efficent and decided to buy it anyway. The dealer screwed the deal up at the last instant and sent me packing down the heritage trail of financial ruin. Dude- Buy the Rf 83s and put some power to those bad boys. You will will be thrilled with the results.
  19. Welcome- Dont go for the 83s unless you have a Real good reciever with a ton of clean power-The more power the better with RF83s.I would say 130+ would be advisable. Your room is fine for that system. Personally, I think that there are better subs for the money than the RT10d. Look outside the brand. For the rears consider RB61s or RB81s on elevated stands if no wall.I would not use RF 63s with the other stuff you are looking at. The RC 64 is a beast and pairs better with the 83. You are on the right track. Get some 2nd and third opinions and try to listen to as much stuff as possible in person. My 2cents worth. Enjoy.
  20. Guess you missed it after I snatched it from your collection while I was down. I was gonna use it for a office gag gift at Christmas but since I am caught I will mail it back to you. LMAO JK Have not fired it up yet. Need to set up a stable place and dig up my old LPs and see what has survived the 30 year rest in the closet. So far I have found the first Dead album in mono, Chicken Shack, and some really old Yardbirds , Spooky Tooth, and some Traffic. I gave away like 200 albums when i moved back in 1984. Kicking myself in the @ss for that brilliant move.20/20 hindsight. Soo what have you bought while the wife is out of the country??? I know that you did not go a whole week without sneaking something into the system undetected with such an opportunity.
  21. Terry said the c34v was good to go with that setup. thanks all.
  22. I ended up with the Yamaha PX2 and the wooden grado Cartridge out of the stuff that Coytee was selling. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT TURNTABLES, Seeemed like a good seal so I bought it. Do I need a preamp for my cartridge? I am running a MAC C34V preamp/2105 power amp. What else should I know before I destroy something trying to get the contraption to play records. As usual- many thanks in advance- pardon my lack of knowledge on this subject.
  23. Massive hookup and furniture moving project with new stuff this weekend- 2-12 packs of Pilsner Urquell since 10 pm Sat nite when I pulled into my driveway from Knoxville to Charlotte. Maybe i can enjoy some Knob Creek and coke tomorrow if this mess gets finished tonite Did not realize this job was going to be a 2 x 12 packer.
  24. thanks Dennie- I will use the spa diversion for the Center lascala when I find it. HA HA
