  1. I have 2 cornwalls now- LOVE THEM- Buying 2 Khorns- fronts/2channels- 2 lascallas rears??? - What direction should i go for a center- Corwall- Lascalla- or the dreaded Cornscalla?? Your opinoins are respected and appreciated - Indy- I heard your stuff kicks @ss. Rookie getting in over his head quick. comments appreciated.
  2. I am NOT afraid of my wife!!!- it's the lawyer that scares the c--- out of me. I can see me living in a cardboard box playing my k horns hooked to a battery powered jam box eating out of garbage cans. Go ahead- kick the poor wino who is crawling across the pavement to his bottle with the last sip of gin.
  3. Is anyone using a cornwall for a center in a setup like this????? Yeah- I know this worse than crack or a gambling habit .
  4. Yes agree-I plan to put the 2 black ones in the rear of the room and find another single Lascala for a center- or maybe another K horn depending on what pops up- My RC64 for now. Funny thing- I heard somewhere that klipsch developed the cornwall as a center channel speaker(long before HT) for the k horns. After my reading/research I would definitely agree with your comment on horn matching. Just cant use the black one with handles for this application.
  5. I have had a HT system using reference components both exclusive and in conjunction with others since 2001. I had my system pretty much complete except for a set of RF 83s when i got off into a 2 channel heritage system with Cornwalls/Mac stuff bought from the garage. A deal just popped upon a set of K horns and lascallas and I jumped on it.As soon as my source takes actual possession of the speakers I will be selling my reference stuff. I love the reference stuff and I would have been satisfied forever had I not heard the Cornwalls. K horns, Belles, and Lascallas. This is more like a substance abuse problem than a hobby. Is anyone running a 5.1 or a 7.1 setup using k horns as front and cornies or lascallas as rears, surrrounds, or a center? What kind of amps? I am particulary interested in the preamp/ processor. I need HDMI capabilities for Direct TV- Bluray. Also interested in how these particulary speakers sound together.i also plan to incorporate a 2 channel setup into the mix with a Mac c28 Peramp/ mac 2105 driving the k horns in addition to using the k horns as fronts.thanks in advanxce-Chris
  6. Congrats on the RC64. IMHO - the best center on the planet for less than stupid money. At 600 it's an outright steal. You will not be sorry. Mine made the most dramatic difference of any component change in my reference setup. I have gone completely off the deep end into a heritage HT system which initally at least wil be using my RC64 as a center. But that is another story. Enjoy your purchase. It will make a huge difference in your system.
  7. Since the lascalas are black they need to go in the rear of the room- I have a space for them Need walunt or birch for the front.
  8. Audible N -You make a very convincing argument. I have been limited to used equipment so far. I will have about 5k or less in speakers that would have cost a kings ransom new.My plan was to pick off 3 used 275s and one undetermined mono amp to run the stuff. Based on the rave reviews I will check out the NOSValves VRD thing depending on $$$ and availabliity.I have bought -sold -and traded components without loss of cash so far. That is a major attraction to used Klipsch and Mac. I realize that with the $$$ invested that I am getting into a whoe new ball game and that money must be spent to achieve the desired result- maybe outside of the brands that I have liked. My 2 liiting factors are first- space/room ans second- $$$$$$. I can spend another 5 or 6k on electronics over a period of time but not much more and live to tell about it.Thanks for the input.
  9. Yeah- this one is gonna be real dicey. Foutunately the speakers will be in the man cave- not the living room. I was trying to think of when to tell her and how to sneak the speakers in without being caught. (Ever tried to hide 4 battleships?).Maybe bribe one of her girlfriends to take her out shopping while we unload the contraband. To make matters worse I am moving these in on 2-15-09- valentines day weekend. For now I am in the process of hiding all frying pans, firearms, and sharp objects such as kitchen knives. I will also just magically come up with a piece of jewelry the week before. If I get whacked, stabbed, or shot- Im gonna come back and haunt you guys. Initally I will use an RC 64 for a center. I set up my reference system at one time with Cornwalls as a center and it worked great. That is what started me down this road of disaster in the first place. The Klipsch tech support people claim that this is reccomended if space is an issue with a Heritage center. As for space- this room is so far over the cliff that it does not matter. Initally I will use the k horns for fronts- RC64 center- Cornwalls for surrounds-Lascallas for the rears. Realisticly i will make a choice of one of the heritage models for a center and start looking for a single. I have a mixture of Mac-Carver-B&K- and HK amps for now. Eventually I want to end up with tubes running everything after I hit the lottery. Definitely a work in process but getting the speakers is the hard part but hopefully I am just about there. Worse than crack???? Ya Think??????
  10. OK- I have gone of the deep end and lost my mind-commited to a pair of k horns and a Pair of Lascalas. I am thinking of building some kind of 7 channel system with 2 channel capabilities using thr K horns both ways and maybe my existing Cornwalls as surrounds with the Lascalas as rears. As much as I love them and have enjoyed them the reference stuff must go.i do not have the proper amps/prreamp for this system but i think I can get by and upgrade as I go. has anyone ever used this combination of equipment? I tend to think that this would work. if not, I can always sell what does not. I would like HDMI capabilities with the preamp HT section. I am on Direct TV Hi def.if I am still a rookie with all of this stuff so any input is appreciated. I still think that the reference HT stuff is really kick @ss for the price but this was too good and to closeby to turn down. i have always lusted after a set of k horns and this looks like the best chance to own them. Is anybody using an RC64 center with a reference system? Of all my components- I hate to part with this one. yeah , I am eating my words- a little salt and pepper please-but at least i did not say never.
  11. Blvdre- I had just started looking around on Agon to compare yours with others and research the mods when 2 other deals invoving major cash popped up in my face.In any case I should have acknowledged your e- mail earlier but I forgot to do it.I No excuse for that- my apologies. Bad form.
  12. Count me in if it works out- the cigar part has my interest- long as cubans are allowed
  13. Blvdre- your player is well worth what you are asking. Under normal circumstances I would have already bought it. I have committed to a major purchase on some other components. Money is a major issue at present. I am looking for someone who wants to sell one quick used for about 500-550 who needs to move it quick or has the hots for something better. I have missed a couple on Agon in this price range. Otherwise, I will go the cheaper route and buy the Cambridge as an temporary solution. With the mods- which I don't have to have now-yours is worth more. I would not try to beat you down on your price- given the circumstances. With the mods you should have no trouble getting 7-8 for your unit here or on Agon. USNRET- I tried to call your guy today at Hotrod around 3:00- answering machine. If he has a used/ trade that he will deal on- I may be interested. Does anyone know the diffeences between the cambridge 640 version 1 and 2? thanks in advance
  14. There is a used jolida on Audiogon - no warranty- good condition- supposedly tested - Underwood Hi fi- asking price 590 + shipping- offered 460 plus shipping- ofer refused I can buy a new jolida for 794.00 with a warranty Ihere is a jolida new at auction- current bid 615.00 there is a used cambridge 640 version 1 for 250.00 I can buy a new cambridge 640-2 for 399.00 shiping included What should I do???????
  15. No offense taken- Macs have long had the reputation of being overpriced.I have thought the same thing until now. Back in the day I owned SAE, Phase Linear, HK and Sony Professinal series components. I bought ESS Heil speakers instead of Klipsch. Why? because i thought the Mac/Klipsch stuff was overpriced compared to the other stuff. Well- my SAE and ESS Heil stuff sold for nickels and dimes years later at the flea market. Had I bought mac and Klipsch stuff back in the 70s, I would still be using it and it would be worth more than I paid for it. lesson learned on my part. I have no intrention of ever selling this stuff except to another forum member for the same price that I paid i/when I decide to upgrade. Tossing a few back sounds like a great idea at Bob's place or any other location.
  16. Depends on your point of view with the Mac. I will not even attempt to win the argument that there is maybe some better performing stuff out there. I am not spending 7k on any component. I buy used stuff as a rule. I have like 1300.00 in my amp and preamp. It does a fantastic job of driving the Cornwalls. Not tube quality but quite acceptable. A friend of mine has B&W speakers with a Rotel setup. He is literally sick based on how my stuff sounds vs his based on what he paid(new). If and when I decide to upgrade there are people standing in line to buy Mcintosh. I have no doubt that I could sell mine right now for more than I paid. As crummy as the ecomomy is -check out the e-bay listings. Every decent mac component has 10 or 20 bids and there are 3 pages of mac components available. Mac components are like Rolex watches, colt handguns, Winchester shotguns, or BMW automobiles-maybe not the very best in performance or initial purchase price- but certainly among the very best. But when it is time to move up or out to something else- no problem- there's always somebody else who wants them. Eventually, I will have a whole rack of them. I still like the 275 better than anything that I have ever heard. But I reserve the right to be proved wrong.
  17. If you see a doghouse that is about 10' x 20' with an 8 foor ceiling please let me know. Ever since I left the little lady without transportation to pick up my conrwalls 2 weeks ago I have been looking for one.Opening should be large enough to get my speakers in-along with my clothes, guns and fishing rods. As for the cathouse.. I was in this bad section of town one time and.. uh....lets skip that one
  18. Now I am really pi$$ed. + 1 on the Escalade comment +1 on the cell phone zappers. After all of the thousands of tax dollars that the b------s have stolen from me at gunpoint over the years I think I deserve a free set of K horns as part of the bailout stimiuls economy enhancing redistribution of wealth rip off program. I want my damn money back. This is totally ridiculious. You ain't seen nothing yet.
  19. I love the thread - Rght this minute. Don't wan't to hijack the tread in any way, shape, or form. I love putting my present listening track into the thread for others to check out. I want to expand on it . I see many cool looking CDs with intriguing covers but I have no clue it the program material is Jazz, Country Rock, British rock,Delta blues, Cajun or whatever. I would like to start a thread where members could post their hidden gems for the enjoyment of the other forum members with a brief explanation of what to expect. So please let us know what you like that is not mainstream. My Cornwalls are hungry for new material. Thanks in advance -Chris Here are a few of mine Gram parsons tribute album-Return of the grevious Angel- produced by Emmy lou harris- Artists- Lucinda Williams- Steve Earle- marevicks- Wilco- Elvis costello-Emmmy Lou harris- Gillian Welch-David Crosby This album won many awards and is an absolute must have for anyone who has any appreciation of country rock. If you don't have it - buy it. Sweet Vine- southern Rock jam music at its best- if you like the Allman Bros buy this- Compared to Phish by many- cheap from Amazon.com 1 album available Chris knight- southern rock /alternative country. Ballads of growing up poor in the South and dark revenge against enemies. Not for everybody - but the guy paints a mucical paintbrush scene with his lyrics like nobody that I have ever heard- suggest - Chris knight-Pretty Good Guy- Enough Rope- Wilco- country alternative rock(sort of) hard to categorize. borrow somebody's cds and listen for your self. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the best Albums ever IMHO. Sumer teeth is also excellent-also AM
  20. I have heard 3 different 275s including Cigarbum's.Hooked to K horns- Cornwals- and b&Ws It gets no better that the 275 Would buy one tomorrow if I had the $$$$ All had Mac preamps
  21. Oh Yeah - could not find the parchman brothers
  22. + 1 on the black Keys- reminds me of some of the honky tonk blues bands which I used to listen to throughout the deep south and Beale Street. Lots of Black Crowes influence. Avoid Moan. Sound like 2 drunks mixed the sound in a 55 gallon drum.Chulahoma kicks ***. Amizon will group 3 of their CDs for a deal. Thanks for the tip. Already got lots of Robert J. I love all of the blues acoustic- electric -or otherwise. The book that comes with the box set is worth the price of the CD. Which Hamilton Loomis do you recomend?? Lots of stuff to choose from?? Same question about Junior Wells- Anxious to try both. Thanks again- Chris
  23. If you maximize the pic of the CD to full screen you can just barely see the images of Elvis and Mother Teresa in the blue background. I just bought it. I am putting it on e bay to pay for a set of k horns and some tube Macs. Of course if anyone here wants first shot at it I will sell it for 10k- Min bid on E-bay will be 12. Cash and Paypal only. High end trades also considered.
  24. I realize that the k horns/ams can be had for cheaper. This system was brand new and money not a big deal to the owner. I have had an active ad for k horns in craigslist and the garage since Nov - WTB K horns- The thing is finding something close by to pick up cause I am not shipping heritage speakers. There have been only 2 in this area that I know of for sale- one pair was white and the guy wanted 2 grand- the others were recently purchased and the selling price was 3800.00. If something comes up at real a deal I will sell something and buy them. I understand your passion for the real stuff and I share it. I'm just not ready to 86 my reference system at this time. Maybe down the road- who knows. If a set of K horns pop up at the right deal I will be faced with a real dilema.Still like the reference stuff for a ton of sound in a space challenged room.
  25. I heard a new set of k horns hooked up to a mac 275 in a large room. About 20 grand for the while setup new. The sound was nothing short of erotic. I had to just put it out of my mind due to space and money issues. My ultimate goal is to end up with some used stuff that comes close.
