  1. Hi Derrick. I am getting the itch to upgrayyed to 4 full martys from my sealed. Changing my room layout and calibrating everything again has been well worth it, but I am itching for MOAR output. Would you say you double your output simply by going ported?

  2. I am looking forward to both games this weekend.

I think Steelers will out play the Pats. They aren't Denver or the Texans on defense but Shazier, Dupree and Harrison can all make plays. I really don't see the Pats D standing tall against Rapeyberger, Bell and AB. Brady is going to have to have another spectacular performance to win.

Did you see Devonte Adams roll his ankle? I was surprised he came back after that. If he is even slightly impaired, that is Rogers top two targets taken away. Plus the Pack is missing Burnett in the secondary. Everyone knows Rogers is good, but Matty Ice is playing out of his mind. They have been carving everyone up with those HB wheel and TE seam routes all year long.

Steelers over Falcons in the SB.

  3. Denver is going with either Paxton or Trevor for next year.

Romo is made of glass, so whoever picks him up is taking on a lot of risk.

If he doesn't end up with Jets / Bears (outside chance of Bills) by August, he will almost certainly be signed by week 4 when some other teams starter suffers a season ending injury.

Select Best Buy's only. I was surprised too.

I am curious to hear from other people. Two of three big AV dealers have gone out of business in the past 5 years where I live. One shop that sold a lot of big screen TV's and B&W gear went under 5 years ago, and this other place that sold mainly McIntosh / Denon / Marantz along with a lot of car audio folded up last year.

The remaining dealer (that isn't Worst Buy) has to be on the ropes. They sell Klipsch / Marantz, car audio but have clearly tried to sell more furniture these days rather than focus on home theater equipment.

Craigslist, Amazon, Ebay and Audiogon are really wrecking these companies. I think the last time I spent money on equipment from an authorized dealer was 10 years ago when I bought my RF83's.

I have literally changed everything in my K-horn except the woofer.  I have tried to replace the pieces with items that the majority thought were the most favorable at the time and cost effective.

You really only need one thing to take a K-horn to the next level.

Leave everything stock and buy a set of wood mids like V-tracs from Greg. Not putting down the 400's or 401's, but its the biggest single improvement and you still retain the stock network and the stock drivers.

I would like to hear more about your experience with the Vtracs.

Did you replace the K-55 with the BMS or just do the horn? I have seriously been looking at this mod for a couple years now. I am going to have some garage space open here in the next few months and am thinking about fully re-veneering and maybe doing horns while I am at it.

  6. I heard a little bit of Atmos at a showroom last year. As far as I could tell, I think the technology has some potential but I think there is more hype than it is worth.

The least impressive upgrade I have ever done in this hobby was go from 5.1 to 7.1. Two additional rear surround channels were a very small improvement for me and I am suspect of Atmos / DTS:X right off the bat because of it.

I totally agree with rotating that setup 90° counterclockwise. Just do it. Tell the wife you just want to check it out for a few days and you'll move it back. I went through the same thing. My wife said she wishes I would have rotated everything years ago. It will be 10x as immersive that way.

Power amps should be the very last components turned on when turning your system on and the first thing shut off when powering the system down. There shouldn't be a pop that way.

    Should i try another replacement?

See, I haven't noticed any popping doing it the opposite way.

It's like if there is a signal being distributed through the system from the Apple TV or Xbox to the receiver when I click on my iNuke, I get a thump. But with everything off, no worries. What he is saying makes sense though because those 12v plugs essentially delay the amp startup a few seconds.

I probably wouldn't trade it in for a new one unless you seriously think it is going to damage something. Odd that it is just that one 3000DSP and your others don't have a problem. It seems like I have read enough of people having similar experiences not to worry much about it.

t damaging sounding, but a bit concerning.  When the INUKE came, there was a rattle inside, and the fan cover had come off.  It appears glued on, so I placed it back on and it stuck and I closed it back up (FYI).

    2) I decided after a few days to order a replacement INUKE, that it might be defective.  So I just opened that one up, set it up, and turned it on.  The on pop was less.  But the off pop was really big.  It also had the fan cover off which I put back on.  The pop was big enough to be concerning, really loud.  I tried another outlet, no difference (and no hum during use).

I'm kind of at a loss.  The original INUKE I got came from a member here, was not modified, and has no pop and works fine.  The two that I ordered from Amazon both had the fan covers off (which isn't a performance issue but maybe indicative of handling?).  Otherwise, the nukes seem to function just fine.  Did I just get lucky with the older INuke3000DSP?  Should I contact Behringer for their take?  Help is appreciated!

I have two 6000DSP's and occasionally get a small thump when turning them off or on. I would say 90% of the time they just turn off without any noise whatsoever. I haven't really played with it to see what is repeatable, but I think it related to what sort of signal is running at the time they are power cycled, so I tend to start them up before anything else is on and shut them down after everything else is turned off. You might try that and see if it helps.

Also, how are you shutting them off? I was reading a thread over on AVS forum yesterday where some people cycle the power using a power conditioner or power strip instead of the power button on the unit and that seems to cause them to thump.

  9. Just a couple thoughts here...

Isn't true Atmos 11 discrete channels? I thought you need full 7 channel surround plus 4 additional in-ceiling or otherwise height channels for true 3D object based audio? Anything less is just matrixed. So with that in mind, I don't think a 7 channel AVR will cut it, especially if you are looking for something for the next +10 years.

You should easily be able to find a used pair of RSxii used. I saw a pair on Craigslist a few weeks ago for $350 and he probably would have taken less. I demoed both the RS-52 and 62 and couldn't tell any difference, so I wouldn't hesitate to go with the 52 or even the 42 if you can find them cheap.

$1500 for a 4k TV. You could get a 1080P projector and 100" screen for about half of that. Some of that money could be invested in the best mains you can afford and quality subs. Subs and as large of a projection screen I could fit in my room was hands down the best improvements I have made.

I am really all for 4k and Atmos. The biggest issue right now I see is there is still a lack of content. I think in another 3-5 years when there is much more content available in 4k-HDR/Dolbyvision and Dolby Atmos / DTS-X, true 4k projectors will be available, 11 channel pre/pros will be cheap, that will be the time to upgrade.

  10. That is a nice room.

If I were starting from scratch, think long and hard before you buy new. Look to the secondary market first. Craigslist, Audiogon, Ebay, Klipsch forum Garage sale page, AVS forums, Emotiva Forums. Your money will go so much further and you'll have more time to save / research what you really want.

This is just my opinion after years of buying / selling / upgrading in this hobby... Oh, and DIY subwoofers are the ultimate.

  11. Power should be fine. Honestly, the only speakers that really need it in my system are the mains and the center. Surrounds could probably be run off an ARV.

I would be a little concerned about going with in ceiling back speakers. I had a similar setup at my last home and they always stuck out as easily localized. I ended up just turning them off. In fact, even in my current set up I haven't gone through the motions to hook up my surround back channels as I find I don't miss them one bit.

Like Youthman said, I would avoid boxing in those speakers. The paperwork that comes with them I think Klipsch specifies keeping the actual speakers 2' from either wall. I have never had mine 'enclosed' but I notice a huge difference just if they are tucked in too close to the wall.

  12. I have heard good things about the Multi EQ XT and look forward to trying it out with my next system. I have the older version and have mixed feelings about it. It always gets the speaker distances wrong and turns the bass way down below my liking.

  13. Rather than mount it to the wall, I hung it from the ceiling using simple hooks and garden chain. I was a little concerned it might lean forward too much like this but honestly, it is probably less than 3 degrees off vertical and isn't an issue.

The tension system on this screen works great. There were a few wrinkles right after I put it together but they were gone the next day. The whole thing took maybe 3 hours total to put together.

  14. Hey Derrick.

Blacking out all the windows down there has been a chore. Eventually I think I need some velvet or other flat black for the ceiling / walls / floor. Getting that absolute black I think would really top it off.

Thinking about upgrading to 4 Ultimax Full Marty subs next though. :)
