  1. Thanks guys for the help. Here's the scoop: Went over to my friendly K dealer, and saw the "pristine" walnut Heresys. They are gorgeous, and I hate using this cliche, but there wasn't a scratch on 'em--not even on the bottoms. My K guy said they are 1980 vintage, and they're bullet proof heavy! I think I got wood myself right at that moment (maybe that was a hernia, I don't know). While the K dude was fumbling with banana plugs and scurrying off to find wire strippers and screwdrivers, I stopped him (and per JLounder's suggestion) asked the sweaty geek if I could take them home and audition them there! "Sure" he said! "We'll just need the title to your house is all, or some other sufficient collateral!" to which I replied "Dude." "I have spent my life's fortunes at you establishment, and will prolly buy these things anyway--why don'tcha lemme listen to them over the weekend?" "Lemme check with the MANAGER" Long story short, they're here at the house, with only a $100 security! I think that's gonna be my down payment. Here's the plan: I hope to add the Heresys as surround speakers for my KLF 30 fronts and C7 center. I don't just want surround speakers; I also want them to double as full-range speakers to compliment the 30s in a five-speaker stereo setup. In an earlier post, folks said they wouldn't be a good match, but the only alternative given was another pair of Legends! Can't do that! Not enough $$, and not enough space! I agree that is probably the best avenue, but for that kind of $$, I'd head toward La Scalaland or the Big K-Daddys. In fact, while salivating over these spectacular Heresys, I noticed that there was a pair of walnut K-Horns, and a matching Belle also just hangin' out in the used speaker department! They all matched in both wood color, grille cloth and condition! DAMN! Well, for the price of two pair of 30s, I could snap up that pair of used K-Horns, and I wouldn't hesitate one second doing just that! Since money is a primary concern here, the Heresys looked all the more appealing. It's a damn shame Klipsch never made a bookshelf Legend speaker. No, they're nothing like the Legends, but they are perfect sized, beautiful, and they actually augment the Legends in areas where they're a bit deficient. Part of the weight difference between the Ones and The Twos is the metal horns in the Ones, versus the plastic models in the Twos. The cabinets are deliciously well made; far superior to ANY Reference, Synergy OR Legend I saw at the store. REAL wood is intoxicating, y'know? The Heresy's midrange is incredible--I heard stuff bright and clear that had previously been somewhat muted in the 30s, plus the high bass from the wickedly tight 12" woofer adds another element that the vented twin 12" of the 30s can't provide. I have two more days to fully audition them, and I may change my mind--for true balance, nothing would beat another pair of 30s, but bookshelf size is essential in this tiny dwelling.
  2. Au Contraire Mr. Blasing! I upgraded from 20s to 30s, and for a while I thought the 20s were bassier, but I don't think so anymore. Maybe it's all part of the ears vs. speakers being broken in debate, but I think the 30s have considerably more bass! Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with the question at hand; just had to interject my 2¢ As far as good amps with the 30s, I have no experience with the NAD line, but I know it's a quality amplifier. I've been experimenting with a Dynaco ST-70 tube amp that I bought off ebay, and can say that tube amps and horn speakers are a match made in heaven. Since Klipsch are so efficient, you don't need a ton of power, and that's perfect for the old Dynaco stuff. Naturally the amps usually require a fair amount of updating, but it's very inexpensive, and the results are amazing. Now I'm up to 4¢ I'll quit now. 3. Huh! And I thought it meant "Really Mean Speaker" This message has been edited by Mr. Blorry on 06-29-2001 at 06:38 PM
  4. Wow, this is strange! I used my Sansui AU-4900 as my only amp until last year! Bought it '77 when I was a teen--not long after I lost my virginity (to Klipsch, that is). Heard my first KornerHorns and knew I'd have Klipsch someday. Finally had to retire the ol' Sansui last year when it developed a terrible hum. Now that I'm back in the stereo hobby and am in the process of rebuilding a Dynaco ST-70, maybe I should open up the ol' beast and see if I can repair it (as long as I can withstand the still present aroma of twenty year old beer
  5. I'm in the market for some more stuff, and I want to get a pair of Heresys. Can anyone explain to me the differences between the original Heresy and the Heresy II? I haven't seen them yet, but my local K dealer has a pair of Heresy Ones that he says are in "pristine" condition. The asking price is $500!!! I'll have to go see them, but I see plenty of Heresys on ebay going for way less. Speaking of "weigh" less, the Heresy Ones are 55lbs, and the IIs are 37 lbs. Holey Moley, that's a big difference! If these H-Ones are really nice, could they be worth anywhere near five hundred clams?
  6. If those are 8" woofers, they look just like KLF C7 woofers, and the tweeters look like they came from KLF 20s or 30s!
  7. Well, I'm hoping my bell-shaped curve has a very flat top, but after I listen to these speakers for a few years, I'm probably going to need to have my audiologist fit me for a Beltone! After that, all I'll need to hear is for whom the bell tolls...
  8. Gnomore! Charlotte! My ol' home town! Audio Video Systems on South and Independence Blvds! Klipsch dealers for the Queen City! My mom lived in Raintree! I lived off Sharon Amity! Sorry everybody. Hard to control my exuberance sometimes. Oh, yeah the speaker question! KLF 20s all the way baby! No comparison!
  9. Al! That's your 666th post! Crawl under the bed! I agree with Al on the rig too. Sell the speakers and snap up a few K Horns and Belles and a security system for the house. Better yet, get a tape loop of Eastwood saying "Go ahead...Make My Day" followed by thirty seconds of machine gun fire. Run the loop through the rig when you're not at home. 10. You guys are killin' me over here! Sure, another pair of 30s would be splendid, but I ain't got neither the $$ nor the room! I wish I had a digital camera to show you the room, but I just measured for the Heresys, and I barely have enough room for them! We're talking having the speakers sitting on shelves, almost kissing the ceiling. I will still need to be careful walking under the speaker shelves so that I don't whang my head! (I've whanged my head often enough as it is). Actually, now that I think about it, I could install two big-*** shelves and lay KLF 30s on their sides. Whaddya guys think of THAT! My friends would certainly defecate molded rectangular blocks of terra cotta when they see KLF 30s suspended six feet above the floor! 11. MRam- Yeah, I can hear you all the way over here in NY! Three questions: How big a car do you have? I couldn't possibly fit that much stuff in my car. I think I would need something like a '68 Buick to hold that much stuff; OK, you spent four grand on a car stereo--how much did you spend on the car? Lastly, have you had your hearing checked lately? I haven't spent that much money (yet) on my home system, and it can make my ears bleed if I want it to! Why would anyone need 500 watts in a car? Sorry, I'm an opinionated SOB, and sometimes it gets the best of me. You can just ignore me. I'll just be sitting over here, picking the wax out of my ears with my ignition key... 12. Psycho Killer, qu'est que C'est. Byrne wrote that about Son of Sam. Wonder if serial killers like Klipsch...
  13. I have no opinion on car amps, decks and the like, but my fave car stereo speakers are Infinity Kappas. they look cool, and they're very Klipschlike in their efficiency and smooth, even response. Go give 'em a listen at your local car stereo store.
  14. In the never-ending quest for a better rig, I decided it's about time to upgrade my shabby surround speakers. I run several different amplifier configurations, but when I use my Denon AV amp, I can switch between surround and five-speaker stereo. The latter can really fill out otherwise bland sounding televison, and give a real spaciousness to normal two-channel audio. It is the five channel stereo feature that sold me on the Denon, as many manufacturers do not offer this option. I need a pair of full-range speakers that will compliment my KLF 30 fronts and my KLF C7 center. I do not want "surround" speakers, because in the five channel mode, my KLFs will blow them to pieces, in terms of both efficiency and frequency response. I need bookshelf size due to room constraints, but I want them to be able to hang with the KLFs! All my fingers are currently pointing at a pair of Heresys, probably a used pair, and hopefully mahogany to match my KLFs. Anybody agree? Other suggestions?
  15. I won't pester you anymore Doug. And as far as I'm concerned, your secret is safe inside this thread. Of course, you could see if Klipsch has a "Poster Protection Program." You could re-enter the forum as a guy who thinks Bose is cool, and folks can watch as we slowly "retrain" you!
  16. Doug has been "BORN AGAIN"!! He has seen the light! We'll always know when the **NEW** Doug is around cause we'll see the "Two" after his name. Tell us Doug, is that something like the "Mustang 2"????
  17. Max- I would love to visit Greece, except I would prolly have to sell my Klipsches to afford the trip! Whenever I can stop buying either audio gear, computer gear or guitars and guitar gear, and plan on saving some cash for a trip abroad. Greece would defintely be on my list of destinations. Actually, I go to Greece everyday! There is a small township just west of my town that shares the same name as your fine land. Sadly, the similarity between Greece, NY and Greece ends at the name! Thanks for the invitation! This message has been edited by Mr. Blorry on 06-20-2001 at 05:01 PM
  18. Hey Mac! In response to your most recent post on this thread-- No.
  19. I think Bose is marketed by a decendant of P.T. Barnum...
  20. PMon- What PWK says is gospel I suppose. Actually, I am not looking forward to the prospect of breaking in these bad boys; I would rather they be ready to rock the moment the current tickles the voice coils. I hope you and Mr. K are correct!
  21. Very nice! I particularly like the statuettes beside the speakers. Ahh, the land of Homer. Here in the U.S., you'd be more likely to see statues of Homer Simpson!
  22. Keith! If you (or anyone else) has any mahogany Heresys I may interested! I'm a little strapped for $$ right now, but that shouldn't last for long. If anyone else does, I'm looking at end of July or so as my target date. Just thinking ahead...
  23. Well, I believe that my KLF series speakers have gotten better over time, but I may be able to conduct a reliable test. I first upgraded from KLF 20s to KLF 30s, and I thought the 20s had more bass. That was the day I lowered the 30s into place. Sadly, my 30s were damaged during shipment, and my dealer is replacing them. They estimate arrival by the end of this month, June 2001. Like the good little audiophile geek that I am, I have already marked the speakers locations on the carpet with tape (no WAF to deal with), so when the new ones are wrestled into the house, they will occupy the same location. I will also measure the spikes to insure equal height. I will then connect the same speaker wire to the same amplifier, and listen to the same music through the same CD player, blah blah blah. If there is no break in period, I should hear no difference in sound. I should invite a few friends over who have already heard my existing setup, and not tell them I have changed speakers. I am willing to wager that there will be a noticeable lack of bass response. If you wanna stop by, give me a shout, and we'll check 'em out together!
  24. I agree with Boa. The guy that sold me my ST-70 was as slow as Christmas getting it to me, and he was also painfully slow about responding to my emails. I was frustrated too, I mean I won right? I was willing to pay well over his reserve because I thought it was going to be worth it, so send me the goods, dammit! Winning a fierce bidding war on ebay is exhilarating to say the least--an experience the seller doesn't go through. I was high bidder for the last four days of my auction, only to have my lead stripped away with less than five minutes to go! The folks that do that are called snipers. Then it was between myself and two other bidders--I finally won, but wow did we raise the bar on the venerable Dynaco ST-70! I'll never know if my seller was slow, stupid or both, or that maybe he was really busy with his life, and couldn't get around to it. I do believe that if you are going to sell something on ebay, you should be prompt and considerate, especially if the buyer flashes $$ in your face! Sadly, not everyone buys into my belief, but were also talking about individuals here, and not stores. Be easy on this guy is my suggestion. If he is telling the truth about a death in the family, put yourself in his place. If he just lost a loved one, honoring his ebay sale is probably the last thing on his mind right now. Keep pestering him though, but be nice about it. I would indeed politely ask to have the 2 day shipping costs refunded. If he is honorable, he will comply. If he doesn't, then SLAM him on the feedback! When I finally got my unit, two weeks after the auction ended, it was packed well enough to withstand a drop from the Empire State Bldg, and it was in perfect condition. It was also in better shape than the photos indicated. I left the guy positive feedback despite my impatience. Good luck!
