  1. Al, Binding posts that I had in mind were similiar to these.......http://www.mouser.com/specsheets/0416124.pdf
  2. Sounds like that would work...What do you think Al?
  3. Have an old mac tube amp that I want to connect to my mac C-15 preamp, but there is no switched outlet on the back of the C-15. It was recommended that I get an outboard unit to accomplish this. The local Hi-fi store guy says he leaves his tube amp on all the time, unless he is gone for multiple days. He claims that this doesn't effect tube life and that the power used at idle is neglegable. Anyone have the scoop?
  4. Al, Can you make a custom set of crossovers with posts instead of screws for speaker connections?
  5. A little help please...went to get spade connectors for my speaker cable (monster cable), but the spade is a little too wide to fit into the crossover. Smaller spades available at the electronics stores are too small to accept the lg diameter monster cable. Does Al's crossovers have any more room or are they similiar to to ones on the stock Klipsch ones?
  6. Help..... So one would think this would be the end of this subject, right? Well I go down to my local Hi-Fi store to score this unit and the guy tells me he leaves his tube amp on all the time, except for extended periods away. He claims this has no adverse effects on the amp (ie longevity of the tubes) and draws neglegable wattage. Does this sound right? $200 would be better spent elsewhere if this is the case....
  7. 4977, Mucho thanks for the info...contacted Niles and ended up with the model APC-2. Cost $199 locally but what the hell if I don't have to get my big butt off the sofa to switch on and off my amp, it's worth it.
  8. 4977, Sounds like that would work for me. does it come as a power strip or mounts in the wall replacing an outlet? Anyone know where I can get one of these? Thanks, Fred
  9. John, Thanks for the info. What mixture of Fels Naptha and turpentine do you use? How much elbow grease should you use for this step? When I bought these K-horns I talked to someone at Klipsch who told me to use tung oil, like used on gun stocks, to the speakers. Well it was a freakin disaster. My brand new babies had smudgy swirls all over the surface that really looked terrible especially in direct light. I have as of yet been unsucessful in fully removing the tung oil swirls that I created in 1980. I will however not give up.
  10. Does this same code apply to Klipschorns and Belle's?
  11. The only thing that isn't remote is the power to the center channel amp, the 225. I am going to have to plug it into a strip and switch it on and hopefully remember to switch off. A C-7 would be overkill as I only need a switched plug. The C-15 has none, however it has a connection to a Mac amp so I can remotely turn off the Mac. I just need a friggin switched plug. Maybe Clarion is trying to save some $$$$ on plugs.
  12. Al, You the man...thanks for the translation
  13. quote: Originally posted by G Evans: MacKlipsch The Dope from Hope drawings do show the best way of doing things IF you have a low imp. out preamp which guards againt L/R crosstalk. Most people these days prefer to go from source to power amp directly via a volume pot driven from a very low z out source like CD (I do) or RIAA preamp with a good line driver (cathode follower ~ 600 ohm). With the resistor values given 27K + 25K pot the cross talk expected (as a function of preamp zout): Zout Xtalk (dB) 600 ohm -43dB 1K -38dB 4K -27dB 10K -20dB ** 50K -11dB 100K -9dB Using lower value resistors in the combiner will worsen these ofcourse .. Many PU cartridges have xtalk figures of around 20dB, so some of you will rightly argue that even highish ** output z's are of no consequence... your choice :-) but would 'degrade' the superlative spec figures achievable with a typical CD player.. BTW, I have a collection of Dope From Hope up to 1978. Untill when were they publisehed by klipsch ? George Can anyone restate this in english??? Be damned if I get this
  14. Anyone have any of these ebony rascals?? Wonder what a set would run today??
  15. Al, These are too pretty to stick in the back against the wall. Would I lose any clarity if I turned the k-horns facing the corner?
  16. Deny...Deny...Deny....sounds like politicians
  17. I think I rubbed too hard...walnut isn't supposed to be white is it?
  18. Any suggestions for maintaining oiled wood finish on my k-horns. They are in great shape but the surface has smudges and years of build up. What would be best to take it down? I'm thinking a fine steel wool and then re oiling. What kind of oil do you folks use?
  19. E-mailed Mcintosh in NY....not true...no Mac at Circuit City
  20. I am going to be running a center channel from my Mac C-15 to my MC225 (mono). The problem is that there are no switched ac plug-ins on the back of the C-15? Any recommendations besides using a power strip? My MC202 power is controlled by the C-15, thru a Mac only connection..
  21. would you recommend replacing the existing connections to the horns?
