  1. So true...These rather expensive little guys have a bright, open midrange, kind of boomy bass and some pretty fair high high end. Granted they cost a whole lot of money, and they don't quite have the presence of my Forte II's. They do appeal to me a little more than the RF/RC-52 System we have. The Forte II's are really a sort of heritage speaker, well thought out and without a honk in them. I never liked the Synergy series and the Reference series, well, I'm ambivilent. Maybe the GF is right. I came into life indoctrinated, my mom bought K-Horns back in 1962, when a kid. My first pair of speakers were Heresy's. Maybe I need this change in a room I never use to really appreciate what I have in other rooms. Who kows, excpet that on top of a lot of money for Mexican made stuff, it's going to cost me to mount them in her office. The detail of the some of the material really did ger me. I mean you couln't prry my Heritage stuff from my cold, dead hands. The Icon series leave me cold, hey, maybe this is the way it is for me. So often we like the personality of our heritage products, never mind the outstanding dynamic range and sheer physicsl presence of them. I live 10 miles east of Bose Central, so beilieve me it hurts more than you could know. Heck, the pricey little bastards ain't half bad, even if they end up on my credit card.
  2. I could put a down payment on a damn Astin-Martin for what these cost, and they had no really loud output. Live volumes, no way, but they did some pretty good things, much better than I thought.
  3. I sat down and listened to the Bose Acoustimass 16 and a couple of the amplified "lifestyle" systems. In the Bpse showroom they had some midrange game, kind of a thumpy lowe end and a price tag that looks like the down payment on an Astin- Martin DB-6. I mean, I didn't hate them like I thought I would, but I didn't think they have the game of my Forte II/Heresy II combination. The amplified versions know how to compensate for Bose anomalies in frequency response, and the sound in some of the midrange was fairy detailed, certainly belyining the little boxes the drivers come in. As far as volume gois, no they don't get near my current system. But I was truly shocked at the price, wow, to think they have enough rich people to buy this overpriced stuff. The GF wanted them for her new little room, after looking at the price tag and listening to them I say, go ahead, put it on your card. Actually it was no where near what I am used to, but they well, were not Klipsch but ok. Hey, I'm no big fan of the Synergy series, and these well, they are pricey but if she can live with them, I can. Bright midrange and thumpy bass. all for only $1600, wow what a deal...I think I'm going to swallow a bug.
  4. My hobbies are really simple as am I. Combat SAMBO, Wu style Tai Chi Cuan (including Push Hands and Sabre), Freestyle Wrestling, and watching bad television and movies. I consider listening to my home theater system as a sort of hobby, but my real joy is in Chinese Marial arts, Wu style Tai Chi Chuan, Xing Yi and the exercises involved, feeling the energies as I move through time and space. Combat SAMBO is a part of me, I do it well and I love doing it. I thnk it may be the Cossak in me. The problem is that I am the same sizes that I was in high school, and I'm 50. I have been the same height and weight for most of the time I have been walking on this earth. I have been 5'6" and 140 lbs since I was 17. The good part is that I never outgrow anythingg.
  5. I use Vista Ultimae 64 Bit becasue I have an AMD X2, dual core 64 Bit machine, and I got VU-64 for $80 from an OEM software vendor. WMP isn't the greatest. I really like the TV stuff that comes with WMC, sets up for remotes and everything. I use the SRS Audio Sandbox 64 bot tp supplment the lame audio output from WMP. VLC of course cures all ills for both the audio portion and movies. WMP is supported by just about any Windows platform, but there are other uuilities for music, e.g.Wimamp and VLC, WMC (Windows Media Center) is part of Home Premium and Ultimate, WMC is a great utility for using my PVR. WMC is also a really good out of the box iutility for ntegrating of media libraries, sources and output devices. .WMC can be used effectively along with wireles routers and other multimedia toys to make your computer an essential integrator of of multimedia IO. Totally cool stuff. M$ should offer a course in it, because there is a ton of stuff builli in and accessible through it's aplil What the difference betwee Home Premium and Ultimate is comes down to bells and whistles. Vista Basic, I really don't know, never seen it. Truthfull I bought Ultimate 64 because it seems like a good deal for $80. MSFT just me an offier for $10 which allows me to upgrafe to WU7 Ulitmate for $9.95. totally a deal. WMP is lame, but WMC isn't half bad, wee it not for the the package of multimeia features, to numerous to list, I'd probably still be using Ubunto 8.04. This machine started life as a Ubuntu "Gutsy Gibbin" machine. I have my next desktop, and AMD Phenom II all planned out, so I'll order it in time for my birhday. In all likelihood it too will be a W7U-64 OS. MythTV and Elisa, two Linux products that don't quite do what WMC does so readily. If MythTV got close to WMC, I wouldn't even how to spell Windows. For years I have been using Computers as a wey of pumping multimeda from device to device. In the Linux world we consciously pipe from device to device. I can use ivtv-tune to set a channel in /dev/video0, pipe the output from /dev/video0 to mplayer or Videolanclient (VLC). In the windows world it is a bot more point and click at the cost of some freesom of options. The whole multimedis thing can be done in Windoze within 20 minutes, WMCis a darn good integrator of all your media. Honestly, it is one of my prime reasons for staying with Windoze. Were it not for WMC I would be on Ubuntu 8.04, for both my server and my clients. Ok, so Creative and Nvidia both make better drivers and software for Windows than they do for Linux. Through good speakers, the driver difference is apparent. I have been working on a good Linux based mulitimedia center, one that has a Windows like interface. Honestly to redirect and pope from device to device is very stable under both operating systems at this time. My time with Windows 7 Ultimate has been great, but the server for all these terabytes of data come from a Linux server broadcasting shares via SMB (M$ standard). One day I;ll get it right, but hey, I'm a Combat SAMBO teacher, not a programmer.
  6. The conversion went realy well, and then I traded the HII->HIII's for a 1996 pair of Forte II's, which are trily amazing.
  7. The Klipsch all stay where they are, if she want some overpriced garbage for a rooom that she and her friends will frequent, that's fine. If she dares move the R/RC-52 stuff into that room, the Blows are going back, they have fhe foersite to include a 30 day money back guarantee. So if these POS things fail to produce the output of a flatulent cocaroach, I can pack them up and send them home. Since Blows does not produce the measurements done by other companies, perhaps they should be compared to a flatulent chihuahua for max outout. Now I just have to find a flatulent Chihuahua for a reference point.
  8. Ok. I have made my arguments, which all seem to fail when she smiles. This man, an instructor of the Martial Art taught to Russian Spetznaz can't stand up to the smile of his sweet, unptretentious girl. This request is nprecented, and is strictly forbidden according to house codes, it's simple, we don't buy Blows with my credit card. After all the cool stuff she has been exposed fro the RF/RC-52 in her tv room to the Khorns in my mon's house and my Forte II's and Heresy II's. So how does this man, a lifelong martial artist. a retired US Navy Officer acquiese so easil, how does he go against his principles and fail to uphold a major belief. With a Mastercard, that's how,
  9. For sure, I just got a pair of Heresy II's for $250.....
  10. I am really familiar with the RF-52's. Iheard the RF-62's once in BetBuy, I sou;dve had the pair for $250, I sould've grabbed them. The RF-62 has a much beefier sound. The cabinet structure is different in the ^2's and they are just a larger, more substantial sustem
  11. Mine are set to large. Most manuals direct you two set the front channels as large, even Blows and their micro-cubes,
  12. Not like this has other than tangiantle reference, but we have the RF-52/RC-52 series in a room that is 25 x 20 x 8, the center channel parked under the ridicuously large tv set. My bedroom (15 x 8 x 8) is all Heritage (Fore II's and Heresy II's) and frankly I am for the most part impressed by the R?-52 series. Although I am not crazy about a two way horn system, still, all in all, the speaker sounds pretty darn good. All good speakers have some kind of personality, and theses ltlle guys are very agreeable. Fortuhnatley we sleep in her bedroom, which has a bed, I have a bed roll and a bunch of tech junk. My bedroom, nerd heaven.
  13. Youre' welcome. I was commisioned right after I graduated from colege and NROTC. Frankly from the time I was young I could think of no ther way spending my life. I wrestled from 7th grade through College, so I guess in a way I was always a soldier and a warrior, representing somethng greater than myself...Ahhh, that's all nonsense, it was the only way I could guarantee I would have a job after College. I received a BA in Political Science and the Navy has some really cool jobs. Nobody was hring histroy teachers and wrestling coaches unless you had a connection I didn't have. My father was a Navy Captain, my son is in NROTC, we are a less than creative family. I have a greater issue at hand, one which threatens the very order of society as I know it. My girlfriend wants to by the Blows Acoustimad 10 for a little room we wanted to set up. I have a prefectly good pair of Heresy II's for that roon, without stands, so they could fit on bookshelves, but no...she thinks the little sattelites are 'cute' and the little stands ($99 a set) give the room a certain panache (whatever that means). In my very simple little mind this means she wants to buy ten transistor radio speakers in little plastic cubes, all of which have the acoustic output of a flattulent cockaroach. This unilateral desision strikes at the very heart. of this houshold. Yes I live in Masachusetts, home of the Blows corporation, but my own SO(signifigant other), one who has experienced Forte II's amd Heresy II's in our bedroom. The woman I allowed a pair of RF-52'a and the RC-52, when she wanted that new, very large tv set (prior to that I had never sen a human head apx 30" in length). The WMC client she has with that system is a true budget breaker, I even let hjer have the touch screen (she does a great plead). When I retired from the Navy, I started to learn Combat SAMBO from a former GRU (Russian Army) Major General. I earned a black belt in reocrd time, normally it takes 8 years, it took me 5 years of diligence and hard work and maybe some talent. I prefer to think of my prpgress as a result of hard work and dedication (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambo_%28martial_art%29#Styles). In retirement I spend 5 days a week sweating, straing amd fighting people lestt than 1/2 my age. I study diligently under a wondefu, graveful and poerful man who is like no other i ever met. I learn from him daily. At 77 he has the grace and power of a teenage ballet dancer. Do I ask for dinner when I come home, negative. I expect her to be what she is, the woman I love. But this act of treason has no explanation, and the trial board rejexts the :"Cute" argument as darn stupid.Tomorrow morning I have to go listen to this "home theater system"/ These things are no more "home theater" than my Subaru is a world class Sure my little Impreza may have the heart of a lion, but it has the claws of a kitten. Were did I fail, we have been tosether for five years, I have been loyal, faithful and just a darn good guy,
  14. This summer I'm going to do the BC network thing, the riranium dipghram tweeter thind has been done, so next midrage diaphgrams are mext. If I get another pair, well, same gpes for them as well. Between summer Camp, class anr private lessons, this meager amount of money to resore these gods of Klipsch mointainis is but a small sacrifice for these wonderfjll creations. So what if it means I get tossed around a fwe hours a week, it is workt it.
  15. Aparrently so, I like them a lot. I like the deeper, richer sound of the Forte Il. My mom still has her original '62 k-horns, never been abused, they present a marvelous sound stage.in her room 25 x 15 x 8, her bedroom, powered by the McIntosh 2105 series equipment. Some day I will get my hands on all that stuff, I know I'll keep the power equipment, although I don't know why, I'm as digital as digital gets. I still don't understand why Klipsch discontinued this model, and kept the Heresy and the Cornall. I guess my speakers were originally $1200 back in 1996, the Heresy II's were less and the Cornwall II was more expensive. Maybe the margains were better on the CII's. Maybe we Fore II lovers just didn't mount a strong enouge write in campain. Compared to the RF series, the Forte II's are way ahead, well I guess one step forward, two steps back. I remember when ny GF got the RF/RC 52 series stuff, she thoutht I would be so proud that she bought Klipsch as opposed to Blose ( a big seller her ein New England) and she is right, I am pround of her, the important thing is that theu ewre jer first choice.
  16. I made my music server with an Asus motherboard, an AMD phenom (quad cire processir) and a couple of TB of storage space, my DAC is made by creative and is hanfled client side, the server can flawlessly serve movies and mucic in al rooms of this 1800 sq. ft. flat. Ok, so I used Ubuntu 8.04 server for the streamer/share box. All my clients are W7U and can read SMB broadcast shares (MSFT standard is SMB/CIFS). I love my dektop client, running W7U-64 Bit, an AMD 4800+ X2 (dual core, 64 Bit) cpu and 750 MB of storage, it also has a pvr card, sound card, DAC (Creative calls it a digiral IO module), etc. Darn do I love my Desktop, an Nvidia 8500GT w/DVI and HDMI output, two monitors, one HDCP and the other t a hi def tv. With that little 2TB bad boy a good router every room can take advantafe of cool technology. Computers are like muscle cars, you can never have too much horsepower.
  17. Pick an amp within your price range, bring it home and see how it sounds, if you like, great, if yuu don't return it.
  18. Why thanks fir the welcome, My FII's were built on the 198th day of 1996 accordning to the serial numbes and I love 'em. The HII's I recently acquired for $250 (bad economy, good price for speakers) are ok, they are kind of uneccessary, the FII's do a gret job in my 12 x 8 x 8 room. I'll fill out my profile more thouroughly. For any Heresy I, II, or III, you need a subwoofer. Forthe FII's you have soli, visceral bass down to 32 hz. I have already received advice I didn't ask for, so thanks to all. 23 years of US Naval service, what is left to do but perfect my Combat SAMBO and to teach the next generation. If you don't know exactly what Combat SAMBO is, wiki it, the description does is good. OK, so I have to enlarge my movie, music and video game collections. Thanks, CSG
  19. Good luck, I licked out and got a pair of 1996 Forte II's, 198th day of 1996, they are maybe the best speaker to ever come out of Klipsch. I am hunting for a second par. I have HI's for back channels, but good luck, these are the best sounding speaker Klipsch ever produced.
