  1. WARNING - YOU ARE GOING TO FRY YOUR BEAUTIFUL RF-7's. At 300 wpc, the next clipping you hear will be detrimental. Unless you like the sound of empy soda cans rattling around in your speakers I suggest you proceed with caution. Not to mention, you will also void any remaining warranty you may have with your speakers. Trust me, I know how you feel by wanting everything the 7's have to offer. As StephenM stated, there are physical limits though. Just a friendly suggestion... Keep on Rockin'
  2. I read up some more on this Velleman and I think this IS the wrong tree. All the reviews state this is a superb amplifier after installing/upgrading the stock tubes. Not something I am willing to invest in. Suppose I will just have to wait until I can afford the 300 wpc McIntosh. Nothing else will do...[] Thanks for the input and Keep on Rockin' --- Matt
  3. Hello All, First off, I know VERY little about tube amplifiers. Lately I have become interested in their performance. I am considering the purchase of a Velleman K4040. This amp is already pre-built and ready to run. The specs list this as a 90 wpc amplifier. This is where my knowledge dissipates. I am currently running a 250 wpc Yamaha. It seems that tube amps run much less wattage outputs? My main question is how will a 90 wpc tube amp compare to a 250 wpc SS. I like to listen to my music loud in 2-channel. The way my 7's hit with the Yammy is incredible. My worry is I will be sacrificing the super heavy sound and clarity of the SS to warmth and depth of tubes. Will a 90 watt tube amp still shake the pictures off the walls like the 250 watt SS? Am I barking up the wrong tree with tubes? (Although I think I already know how the forum will answer that one Thanks and Keep on Rockin' Matt
  4. Hot little 2-channel Rotel system I put together for my Hot little girlfriend, Jamaca.
  5. Find out what your neighbors like to listen to, they are now participants. [] Welcome to the Forum Cfaille. I absolutely love my RF-7's. I listen to a very wide genre of music and the 7's are simply the best thing since spreadable butter. Clean, crisp and they will punch a hole in your chest. I am glad you are doing your research, people here at the forum are quite knowledgeable and very helpful. Good luck in your quest. Matt
  6. Dennie! That very well may be the ticket. Thanks for the wonderful chuckle my friend... [] Hats off to ya Brother! Matt
  7. DENNIE? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME? [:|] Must have those McIntosh!!! Dennie? How are you going to explain this to Jamaca [^o)] Keep on Rockin' Brother [Y] Matt
  8. PLEASANTLY disappointed. The Onkyo is simply, in my eyes, a work of art. Unfortunately it just does not hit nearly as hard as I like. It has a very clean and crisp sound as I expected, just not the super hard hitter like my Yamaha. I did try bi-amping but was not satisfied with the outcome. I have been wanting one of these pieces for quite some time now and it is exactly what I was expecing if not more. Another fine piece for my collection [] Thanks everyone for you thoughts and input. Hmmmm? anyone have an M-588 for sale? [] Keep on Rockin' Matt
  9. Hi Bill, Hey thanks, the 504 has a striking presence doesnt it... I never even thought about bi-amping the two. Definitely something to consider if the Oinker just wont push as hard as I like. I will certainly give her the maiden voyage alone first though. Although, you are right, what a nice little light show that would be. You know how I love those "BIG OL' METERS". I did find the deal I was looking for, $399. I got it from the gentlemen at Audio Classics, Vestal New York. Hopefully arrives by next weedend. I will be sure to give updates. Matt
  10. Hey Dennie, Thanks man, I am excited for yet another new toy. And yes, I do love those "BIG OL' POWER METERS"!!! [] I cant wait to see what they look like in my system. Also I am very interested to see how the two amps compare head to head. I am definitely rooting for the underdog here. The ol' Yammy has a 85 wpc longer reach on the Oinker. You know I will keep you updated on the bout'. Keep on Rockin' Brother, Matt
  11. Now the waiting game begins AGAIN!!! Finally bit the bullet. My new amp is on its way... DOES THE MADDNESS EVER END? gotta love new toys though []
  12. Welcome to the Family Zaskark ! You will be gluing your pictures to the wall before you know it... [] Matt
  13. []I'll try that next time[] Thanks !!!
  14. Darnit! I missed my plane to Florida [8o|] One day soon Dennie, one day soon...
  15. Holy Cow!!! [:|] If those were in my town. $500 no questions asked...
  16. Thanks for the input. I really cant decide. I have until Sunday night to make a decision. This is not a need, simply a want. The Onkyo amp is just so beatiful, its presence alone is striking. I can get the M-504 for $499 + S/H, seller stated unit is flawless. Simply a bargain I am not sure I want to let slip away. So what if I have to eat Cornflakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Arrrrrgggghhhhhh [8o|] Just cant decide!!!
  17. $40 Cornwalls I picked up at a garage sale[], consecutive serial numbers, they sound incredible!!! Be patient, treasures are out there. I check CL everyday for them. I check the pawn shops weekly. You have to stay on top of it though. Just one find and you will be hooked [8] Just this past week I found a full set of Quintet Surrounds (NIB) for $100 on CL. They were gone 30 minutes before my call... Welcome to your new hobby!
  18. Hey all, I have wanted a vintage Onkyo for some time now. I am looking at the M-504 at 165 wpc. Currently I am running the Yamaha M-80 at 250 wpc. Can anyone help me with some comparisons. I am very happy with the Yammy and am a little hesitant on this purchase. Anyone with some info/opinions on advantages and drawbacks is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
  19. Welcome aboard Zaskark, I agree with all previous mentions. Take a look at audiogon.com also. I think you will need to create an account to log in. I purchased my Marantz from audiogon. It retails for around $1600 and I got it flawless for $225. Also e-bay has some great finds. You can get a whole lot more for your money if you go with pre-owned equipment. Remember half the fun of this hobby is the treasure hunting. Glad you are here, Matt
