  1. From my experience, the JJ KT88 is king of the hill for bass. Its likely my fav KT88/6500 variant.

If wanting a good all around... the Tungsol 6550.

In general Ive been less than impressed with the GL... price vs performance isn't there for me.

  2. Wife wants the living room speakers smaller.

30" tall 20" wide. Sporting Eminence 15" woofer... similar to the K43.

Large Faital horn and matching HF140 driver.

Custom AP12-800 designed by ALK and made be me.

This speaker simply rocks! Everything you want a cornscala to do but better and smaller.

  4. I used as a 2 way cornscala.

Eminence 15c and the fiatal lth142 horn.

That said. It’s a great 2way crossover for a Cornwall, belle or la Scala. Or 1/2 of the ap12 es5800 crossover from alk. The 600hz is great is you can use a k500/k600 in Cornwall’s with the k55 mid range. Just order the es5800 and you have likely the best crossover possible... at least my idea of a good time.

  5. The m2380 is a job 2380 clone. It’s a well known and well regarded horn. Buy the m2380. Likely a better horn.

The 2380 can be crossed at 500hz.

Pair it with a de85 or de750 if it wjll

fit and you’re set.  I’ve used this combo myself.

  6. for my 2 cents.

Given you have such a well executed 3way... Id strongly suggest building and keeping your old speakers... they dont build them like that very often.

    Re 2way horns

The interaction between driver and horn should be considered.

Most drivers that go to 400hz or lower cant play 60 18K as well the one exception might be the Faital HF200?

The Eliptrac 400 would be my 1st choice. Works amazingly well and can play very low. Paired with a AP12-500 and you have a crazy good speaker.

The Faital LTH142 would be my next choice. Crazzy good... no sanding and gluing required. Crites has a crossover for this or ALK AP12-800 or ES700 (I just bought a ES700 for this purpose.) Only takes 1.4" drivers by the HF140 is incredibly good.

If going Eminence 15C + Faital LTH142 you van build a much smaller cab. Dave cut for me baffles that are 30"x20"wide for this horn. It hits just as hard as my cornscalas and actually goes deeper.

    Hope this helps

  7. Super kind words... thank you. I will say. I started out on this forum knowing next to very little. This forum st large, Dave Harris and ALK were instrumental... That and my wife being incredibly tolerant :-). She has come to accept that speakers are made, used and sold... Its a lot of the fun in it for me.

Building 3-4 pair a year you get to try some stuff and learn a thing or two.

  8. Which B&C driver was used on the LF. Als networks are designed for the expected inductance of a K33 or eminence 15C.  Did he make some Modifications for your woofer?

You might ask if you can send him the woofer to measure and recalculate the crossover part values.  If it’s a cornsclawal network as it’s a lower order filter it maybe more forgive then his higher order networks.
