  1. My Academy has foam on 3 sides but no other filler. The Academy I previously purchased was insulated the same but the tweeter had an extra magnet and video shielding bell that my current one does not. The shielding bell/extra magnet came unglued and was loose rattling around inside. I sent it back. Then the newer one I replaced it with didn't have it at all.
  2. anyone ever heard/built one of these???? http://billfitzmaurice.net/THT.html Seems like it would be a good mate to a LaScala........Thoughts?
  3. I found your super tweeter.....very nice: http://www.visaton.com/en/chassis_zubehoer/ht_horn/tl16h_8.html I wish I could hear 35KHz. Looks good. Did it come with the wooden mount shown? What I would do is play your favorite track with it and enjoy. Then disconnect the super tweeter. If you are missing something hook it back up and pat yourself on the back for a wise decision. For a blind test have you wife disconnect it with out telling you. 5KHz-35KHz with 100db 1w/1m response reads good to me. Makes me want to test one out. Don't go breaking any windows.
  4. There is a thread on this forum right now a problem with a Panny. Panasonic had horrible problems with bulbs on their lcds. New LCDs lasting only 2 months then after a 6 week turn around on the warranty repair the bulbs burnt out again in 2 weeks. This was wide spread about 2 years ago when I bought my 1st flat panel and was researching then. Then I saw the thread on here and did a search Pannys are still troublesome. I have a Vizio 37 LCD and the 60 Plasma no problems. I bought a Vizio 50 for my father in law no problems there either. My Dad's 42 Samsung plasma has a red line down the right side 4" from the edge.....burn in from watching 4:3????? I guess if you search any brand there will be lemons that stand out. It just seemed Panny's LCDs had alot of complaints. I had one in my cart when for whatever reason I looked at the reviews.....what a nightmare. I just did a search it seems Polaroid is the worst by far. Nothing but good reviews for Panny's plasmas now. Other than this one: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/129399/1310425.aspx#1310425 I'll keep looking, thanks for the input!
  5. No way I'll buy a Panasonic they have toooooo many problems
  6. I love my Chorus IIs.........just popped in TI diaphragms and have new BEC caps but have yet to build the new x-over boards. Klipsch still sells all the drivers for them except the mids. But they have replacement mid diaphragms for $29.84 ea + shipping and sales tax if it applies. I shock everyone by connecting them to my Ipod thru the 15 watt Dayton class T amp. Efficiency rules. They sound amazing! Perfect size..... not too wide. I did have to remove the base to keep them from over-towering my entertainment console. Welcome to the Chorus II club! With 1000 watts handling I doubt they ever get over driven. I just don't understand why they don't use the K48s in all their 15" speakers??? Enjoy!
  7. I have a VIZIO VM60P HDTV that was purchased from Costco prior to the 90 day policy. When purchased it was advertised as 1080p well it actually down converts 1080i to 720p and doesn't even accept 1080p as advertised and printed on the box. Costco said I could return it whenever I like.....been holding out. Have about $2400 invested that would be a full credit towards one extra nice LED 1080p or 2 decent plasma or LCD 1080p TVs. My 2nd theater room is supposed to ready Mar 1 and trying to decide what do you think????????? The VM60P actually has a better picture than many 1080p sets I've seen. But come March I'll need a 2nd monitor. LMK Thanks!
  8. I have read nothing but problems with Panasonic LCD and plasma over the last 4 years. Bulbs burning out after 2 weeks to 2 months the after a lengthy period in the shop the new ones go out just as quickly. I was just reading on the Costco site about several Panasonic plasmas having to be returned afters less than a weeks use. Best of luck!
  9. Out of the 3 you have to pick from the Sony BDP-S560 seems the best choice with the built in WiFi. Although my PS3 is hard wired via ethernet cable. I am currently watching Star Trek purchased thru the PS3 PS store. The only difference is the lack of special fetures found on store bought BDs. I seldom look at them anyway. The picture and audio quality appear the same. Saved a trip to the store, gas & time& costs less. I can watch over and over I don't have to dig thru the drawer of discs either. I need to figure out how to load all my discs on the PS3 since I upgraded my PS3 to a 250GB for both movies and audio.
  10. I love my PS3. I use it for all my digital music and movies. It makes a great CD player too. The 24hr video rentals and movies for sale thru the PS store are much better audio quality than Direct TV PPV.
  11. In a 5.1 set up.......... side wall or rear wall with the RS7s.........how close to the corner can they be installed efficiently?
  12. Thanks for the input! I have lots of wire spools of 10, 12, 14 THHN single condutor and lots of 18 multi conductor around but nothing with a strand count like the wire you all mentioned. Then I have standard brown landscape lite wire. Guess I'l check with Bob.....need grille cloth anyway.
  13. Getting closer on my Cornscalas. Starting to wrap up the missing pieces and the wire is one of them. What is good and what is overkill waste of money. I have nice new BEC x-overs and don't want to waste the money spent on them if standard wire won't do the job. Recommendations???
  14. Just changed mine in Chorus II and Academy...... definitely crisper and cleaner. To answer your question: Different horn dimensions means different dispersion. And this does not necessarily mean the driver/diaphragm has to change. K-55 mid drivers were used with different horns. They sound completely different in La Scalas than in Cornwalls and even more different in Heresy Is. K-79-K & K-76-KV. Similar driver same three nut pattern. The K-76-KV uses dual magnets(some have 3 magnets and a bell) where the K-76-K only has one magnet. But all use the same diaphragm. Just means I now have spare phenolic diaphragms for my other tweets.
  15. Looking for a low power consumption amp for battery owered camping trips so I ordered the Dayton Class T amp: 15 WPC. I recieved this amp today and just hooked it up. I tried it 1st with my 96db efficient Klipsch Heresys sounded ok. I am now using it to power my 101db efficient Klipsch Chorus IIs and the punch and clarity rivals my 130watt Denon. Right now using my Denon AVR 4806 as a preamp with RCA to mini plug into the Dayton Class T with 18 gauge wire to a pair of Chorus IIs. Wow! Incredible! Simply jaw dropping this little box puts out this kind of sound level. Connected to the Chorus IIs have my wife beating on the wall to turn the volume down! If you have La Scalas or anything over 100db efficient this is an amazing little amp. Now we'll just see how it holds up.
  16. Project scrapped ISO Klipsch surrounds.......have a line on a couple pairs Thanks Happy Holidays to all!
  17. I just found this thread. Great to know we are not the only music nuts out there. Bravo great pics! Great set up! We load up the boats with Scalas, Cornwalls, Heresys, a half dozen deep cycle batteries, a pair of Crowns, a couple kegs of beer and roll down the river to a little island on the intercoastal waterway and set up under the sprawling oak trees. We'll build a bonfire and run till the batteries die then it's a couple hundred feet of cord to a baby generator. Spend the weekend camping and jamming. The music never stops....so if you need quiet to sleep you must have ear plugs. We usually do this twice a year fall & spring.. But it is such a work out dragging equipment thru the sand from the beach to under the oaks and from the boat landing to the different vehicles it takes a week to recover. I have a T amp on the way....hoping for good results and being able to leave the genny and gas cans at home. It's nice when the music goes black not to hear the genny in the background.. I know now we'll have less equipment to haul come spring. Just wondering what dual T amps would do. You can never have enough speakers, and seems never enough power. In order to get a quiet genny you must go smaller so then there is a voltage drop so then the amps power supplies staart stariving and breakers/fuse start going. Our next outdoor adventure is planned for the Old Sheldon Church near Beaufort, SC http://www.sciway.net/photos/coast-sc/sheldon-church/ruins.html We are hoping the inside corners of the church ruins will add to the low end that is always lost outdoors. Will post dates when the next outdoor jam is scheduled. Klipsch under the stars is only improved by being under the oaks as well!
  18. The only reason I was going with the Eminence was to keep the origninal look and style of the Heresy. Looking at KGs now. Thanks for the input and Happy Holidays to all!
  19. What are the two smaller white speakers pictured next to the KG 2.5s on this page? http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/kg-2-5-overview/ The smaller ones look more like what I can get away with.
  20. Thanks for the input. Happy Holidays to all! I'll check out the KGs.
  21. Anyone know of tone matched surround speaker set for Academy and Chorus II. Wife says Heresys must come down.
  22. The wife won't let me keep my Heresys for back channel speakers. Too big. I can't complain too much since she hasn't freaked over the fronts. Thus I have decided to attemp and 8" build. I found an 8" Eminence driver Alpha-8A. Looks identical only smaller. But looks can be deceiving. 8" specs: *Power handling: 125 watts RMS *VCdia: 1.5" *Le: 0.44 mH *Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 5.3 ohms *Frequency range: 58-5,000 Hz *Magnet weight: 20 oz. *Fs: 73 Hz *SPL: 94 dB 1W/1m *Vas: 0.6 cu. ft. *Qms: 4.60 *Qes: 0.68 *Qts: 0.59 *Xmax: 3.2 mm *Dimensions: Overall Diameter: 8.24", Hole Diameter: 7.13", Mounting Depth: 3.58". Kapton coil former Polyamide-imide coated copper voice coil Ferrite magnet Pressed steel basket Paper cone Cloth accordian surround Solid composition paper dust cap I figure the horns don't care about the box size and they will retain their x-over point. Whatever the 8" doesn't handle in the bottom end will be my concession. That is what the sub is for anyway. My math which is probably pretty basic and where I need some assistance. I was simply multiplying my Heresy dimensions by 0.6667". Simple math 12" to 8". Though I'm not sure whether this will be way too small or just close enough. I'd be going from approximately a 1.9 cf box to a 1.3 cf box. Can't go any smaller than 18 1/2 H & 12 W to accomodate the horns and woofer only leaving the depth which should calculate to 8 3/4 but........the horn is too deep at 11 1/8" by itself. At this point all I can do is make up 1.25" by surface mounting the mid (countersunk into the motherboard) and 1/2" by counter sinking the magnet into the back. Well so much for a square cabinet. I'll have to build it 5 or 6 sided similar to a "reference Heresy" so it will fit tighter into the ceiling. I may just build a "reference Heresy"; mount it and ask for forgiveness!?! I planned to use 3/4"MDF and black ash veneer to match the front speakers. Any thoughts or recommendations would be great!
  23. $10 bucks gets you all their online plans. Their horn loaded 12 PA looks like it might take a Heresy K22 woofer, a Cornwall K601 and squeeze in a K77. With a sub to handle the lows Heresys can't handle anyway should be super efficient.
  24. I purchased a Hi Vi 10" sub with intentions of making my own Carver True Sub but I never could track down a compatable passive radiator. In the process I built a 0.6 CF box as the Hi Vi specs call for: ok.... but nothing to write home about. My $99 12" KLH sub from Costco out performed it. Then I came across the Deathbox. My 10" sub loves its newly 13x13x17 ported MDF home now & outperforms any 15" I've heard. A solid design at 63lbs. And my sub amp is in the rack not a plate attached to the sub. Then the the 10" Hi Vi wieghs in @ 28lbs alone. It won't work with a plate amp mounted to it. I would have mounted a plate amp in the wall next to it if I hadn't bought the Dayton SA1000. The Dayton hums a little at idle but the hum decreases quickly with increase in volume This thing picks up right where my Chorus II's leave off. I bet it would be great with Heresys. If it wasn't so darn heavy it could easily go from the home theater to the car. Definitely worth a look if you don't have room for a 15". Consider the plans a Christmas present to all!
  25. Are these horns the ones referred to in the Cornscall upgrade?: http://www.kcnproducts.com/KCN-Products-MG-Electronics-PH-800-p/kcn-ph-800.htm
