  1. Instead of debating how much power is needed, why not measure it? https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/170414-who-wants-to-measure-how-much-power-voltage-is-really-needed/ That said, I have powered LS systems with as little as 300 milliwatts per channel and it was far more than needed. 2. The 1629 and 6U5 are not rectifiers. They are “tuning eyes.” Their filament voltages are not the same, and require different sockets. Maynard
  3. Sent you an email a little while ago..... Maynard
  4. My wife, a retired pre-school special ed teacher, believes that it will be impossible to ensure safety when working with special needs kids whose therapies often require various degrees of physical contact such as PT, OT, and speech. Also, there are kids who bite, scratch, put everything in their mouth, etc. Many will not wear a mask due to tactile issues. Others learn by observing facial expression. How can that be done with a mask on? The school district does not have the resources to send specialists to the home which forces parents to send the kids to school. And, adding to the risk is that many of these kids have medical issues which may increase their susceptibility to the virus especially as it mutates. Lastly is the concern that if the teacher or even one child tests positive, the entire class will have to quarantine for 2 weeks. This is likely to be a major problem as is the usual issue of rampant illness spread which often begins within 2 weeks of school reopening in normal times. Maynard
  5. NYC is allowing teachers 65 and older with underlying medical conditions to apply for remote teaching. While this is admirable, it does not address the concerns of younger teachers who may have significant risk. It also does not include teachers whose family members may be at high risk. So far, NJ is not offering teachers a similar option. https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/education/ny-teachers-medical-exemption-sick-family-members-20200720-he2ushqzd5hvhfswwrsdspruia-story.html I just don’t know how any school system is going to balance the risk to benefit ratio. Thoughts appreciated. Maynard
  6. This article highlights some of the concerns and risks: https://www.nj.com/news/2020/07/from-lunch-to-buses-ranking-the-risks-nj-students-face-for-coronavirus-exposure-when-schools-reopen.html Sensibly, concerned parents will be permitted to keep their kids home and use total remote learning: https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/07/nj-to-allow-all-remote-learning-option-for-students-when-schools-reopen-in-the-fall-murphy-says.html What’s going on where you live? 7. Marty, do you have a an audio signal generator with variable output and a shielded test lead? I can take you through a simple troubleshooting process if you do. Maynard
  8. Keeping track of the afflictions waiting to attack us is almost as much fun as our hobby! We have Dengue fever, Bubonic plague, and now Trench fever! https://www.yahoo.com/news/very-rare-world-war-illness-084752344.html Maynard
  9. Yes, an orange drop is fine. Keep me posted. Maynard
  10. Not too bad. Just to be complete, measure the voltages to ground on pin 9 of the eabc80 and pin 7 of the EL84. Clean the pins of those tubes well, coat with Deoxit, and insert/remove a few times. C67 is a little leaky, so if you have something close in value with the correct working voltage, replace it for good measure. Will try to look in later on in case you do this today..... Maynard
  11. Hi Marty! Before anything else, hit the volume and tone controls with a touch of Deoxit. It wouldn’t hurt to do the same with the switches. .Also, measure the dc voltage between pin 8 of the eabc80 and ground, and pin 3 of the EL84 to ground. Also measure pin 2 of the EL84 to ground to verify that there is no dc present. Use the lowest range of your meter for the latter. Maynard

  13. This video is worth watching if you have school age children: https://www.facebook.com/thatsinappropriateblog/videos/1000218463765478/ Parents who cannot work at home have a dreadful situation on their hands. Maynard
  14. Louisiana has shielded schools and other entities from all virus liability: https://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2020/06/23/house-agrees-to-shield-louisiana-schools_ap.html I guess this is supposed to give parents the confidence to send their kids back to school, as well as the teachers and all other employees. Add that to the total liability shield for the vaccine manufacturers. Maynard
  15. Merck’s take on a vaccine: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-vaccine-merck-co/merck-ceo-says-raising-covid-19-vaccine-hopes-a-grave-disservice-report-idUSKCN24F2RV Meanwhile, Moderna’s stock rose 16% because 45 people supposedly produced antibodies from their product. Given that Gates and Fauci are involved with this company I have doubts. Maynard
  16. Keep in mind that Jeffrey's advice may differ from the norm. I recommend that you seek other opinions from experts on sites like DIY Audio before making any changes. You can PM me if you wish but my computer time is extremely limited. Maynard
  17. We have Dengue fever in Florida and now Bubonic plague in Colorado! I can’t wait to find out what’s next...... https://nypost.com/2020/07/13/squirrel-tests-positive-for-plague-in-colorado/ Maynard
  18. This doctor believes that herd immunity is not possible. I tend to agree as numerous mutations of the virus have been documented. https://www.vox.com/2020/7/12/21321653/getting-covid-19-twice-reinfection-antibody-herd-immunity Maynard

  24. Tube rectifiers drop a certain amount of voltage which, generally, is proportional to the dc current drawn. Two tubes are sometimes used in parallel to limit the voltage drop in amps in which the current draw varies quite a bit. In amps like SETs, in which the dc current draw Is quite constant, it is unnecessary. Manufactures sometimes used 2 rectifier tubes for marketing purposes. In guitar amps voltage sag is sometimes preferred as it can result in a distortion characteristic which some like. You can’t compare that with high fidelity applications. This topic can get involved and can be discussed in more detail if needed. Tubes like the 5U4 are full wave, not dual, rectifiers and were made for use with a center tapped transformer secondary. 25. My grandmother buried 5 husbands, and could have had a 6th at 92, but decided that she had no further use for a man at that point. She looked no more than 80 when she died at 105! I don’t have her genes. Maynard
