  1. Shake777, I am the same view. It took me along time with a so so system before I moved into exploring quality gear. When I did I finally 'got it', and I was hooked. My system is in my top three joys in life. That does make the decision to spend a seemingly sizeable sum much easier, but it is a wonderful thing in life to enjoy.
  2. If you hated cassettes, then you probably only heard the ones that the recording companies sold. They really sucked. I started with cassettes in 1974 when I first started to drive. I first had a Realistic, not so much. in 1979, I purchased a very good quality Harmon Kardon. It was truly excellent, and it was fantastic to be able to record my vinyl onto cassettes to use in my car. I don't use it now, but it, and cassettes made me very happy for over 20 years. When Peter Frampton came to the Paramount here in Portland Or in 1976, on his Frampton Comes Alive tour, the tickets were $8. Elton John in 1980 was $10. Not the easy buy that big acts ask today at $100 each.
  3. Thanks guys. I will order a new rectifier tube - or am I the wrecktifier - and see if that solves the dilemma. Dale.
  4. A 5Z3P. This integrated amp doesn't have a customer replaceable fuse.
  5. There isn't a on/off light. The rectifier tube does not light or heat up. It acts as I said, dead. Has anyone had this experience, or can anyone shed some light on my dilemma?
  6. Today I removed the rectifier tube from my 300b amp immediately after I had just turned it off. I did this absent mindedly, fearing that doing such a thing could cause a problem. The problem is that the amp will not work now. I am assuming that removing the rectifier tube after just turning it off, or was it still on, could have blown the tube? Has anyone ever done what I did, and what was your outcome? Thanks in advance.
  7. I recently sold my Bryston 14b, I wouldn't recommend it unless you you like a metallic taste your music [ ;P]
  8. That is fantastic to hear, Greg. Keep it up! []
  9. OMG !!! Those speakers are over the top gorgeous.
  10. Go to Wendellfabrics.com. They specialize in acoustic fabrics, and they have a ton of them.
  11. I will have to try your first recipe. The cracked pepper/olive oil crackers are the best cracker I have ever tasted, rich in olive oil and cracked pepper. Great with cheese.
  12. I agree, that finish is stunningly WOW. Those Cornwalls are very livingroom friendly.
  13. I just found this thread. Thank you for the pictures, they explain how to use the midhorn space for additional volume instead of adding the 10" high ported box below the existing cabinet. It is great to hear you like the way they sound. I have a pair of so so LaScalas in the garage that I bought for this purpose but decided it was to obtrusive adding a 10" high box to the bottom. Thanks again.
  14. I just read this also. That is simply a fantastic idea, low cost and it looks elegant. Exciting idea to say the least.
  15. Has anyone used a product from SV subs, or SVS. I have read they are an incredible value. I have noticed some people have them listed in their system lineups. I am looking to spend $1500 tops.
  16. I want the sound spectrum totally covered as I know how adding even an inadequate of amount of the extreme ends of the spectrum adds, amazingly, to the 'realism of the instruments as a whole. My livingroom is only 14' by 20'. I may well find that I turn it off for most music, but at this point I want to make it the sound as good as possible. I gotta try don't I?
  17. I am wondering if anyone has found a sub that they just love with their LaScalas? I will be running it only from 50Hz down. It probably doesn't make a difference but I listening to mostly Jazz anymore, although I do still listen to some 'classic rock'. Thanks in advance.
  18. As this thread deviated from my original intention of just sharing what was out there, I became amused with the motivations that lay for refusal to explore a product that is within this forums tastes. P'nuzzi stated that I would have been accepted if I had 'just thrown something together'. That is not what I wanted, I have been doing that for a couple of decades. I simply wanted the very best iteration, and I feel I have attained that.
  19. Which bass bin exactly are we talking about? Wouldn't it be 400Hz? You seem to be saying that only PWK knew how to apply math and physics to acoustic reproduction. And you know what? They didn't have the incredible testing gear that we have today. So, in all honesty, they relied on aural perception rather than just numbers. I read how Vienna Acoustics voiced the pair of Straussesthat I still have. They didn't sit and stare at graphs, that is only used to back up those 'people's' perception that are voicing them. Engineering is an aid, get it, an aid. It is not what motivates and ends the design process. It is used as a guide.
  20. Wow Mike, I didn't think you were condescending before that remark. Yes, it is Klipsch's Forum. Is that why you just adore Al K? Give me a break and be totally honest about where your allegiances lie. As was said, Al K. learned from someone else, as did Greg. Why do you kiss Al K's behind while he 'hocks his wares' and it is not taken in the same spirit when Greg does. Be honest, why is that? A Lotus and a go cart. What is biasing you so heavily to Klipsch? Do you honestly think Klipsch is using the best products available? Like hell. We all know that PWK sourced his drivers as cheaply as he could get away with, and that is fine when you are producing for the mass market. Not everyone is able to spring for the best iteration of a product. Yes, in my opinion the Vittora is very much in the spirit of the LaScala. But don't try to tell me Klipsch is using the best drivers available, and certainly they are not putting much into making the LaScala's looks. The cabinets are just the same drab boxes with the addition of wood veneer. I will admit that after I purchased my first set of used LaScalas on a lark a year ago that I loved the sound for awhile. It didn't take me long to realize that it most likely could be done much better. I actually ordered a pair of LaScala IIs direct from Klipsch last August. Then I found someone that thought the same way I did. And he did it for only $2000 more than Klipsch was selling theirs. Volti Audio was the no brainer decision just based on the cabinet, and when you hear them, man that $8000 is suddenly a value compared to what Klipsch is offering to the public. Do you think that PWK wasn't just slightly tickled with how people loved to trade around his products, and that a secondary market for upgrades existed. I am quite sure he was. He was an independant person from what I read, and he is said to have been very giving of his time and knowledge. He would have been honored that someone produced such a product like his that was of such high quality I would have purchased a Klipsch LaScala, but I knew that someone could do so much more with the design.
  21. Wow, I appreciate the members who have been gracious, I truly do. And to Speakerfritz, Speakermeister and Mark 1101, you really suck the big one...what do you think this is, Jr High? Bye.......................
  22. And Nat, with all due respect, what does Greg's taste that he designs around have to do with abusive comments made to him? The logic in these statements sums up to 'If the person expresses himself, then we will belittle him'. I think I do understand 'Fritz's motivation, but I don't know why he can't see that we are here to learn and have that experience be enjoyable. I enjoy coming to this forum on occasion, but I can't understand why someone would see what he has written and then turn away as if it never happened. Whatever.
  23. 'Fritz, why the need to try to belittle those who are actually creating something that is totally worthwhile? Have you heard it?
