  1. fill me in!! what is this "front effects" stuff. never heard of it. can i add it to my denon4800?
  2. sorry fred, i didn't mean to put that quote in. just experimenting and it went through...all of it. hope you didn't think i was mocking you. as for my experience with monster. i have nothing but for all my component interconnects, optical, and speaker wire. i also purchased the hts1000 suppressor/conditioner. totally awesome unit. video doesn't seem the same anymore. now i have extremely sharp imaging. so sharp and three dimensional, as my girlfriend and i watched "the shining", she couldn't help but say the background "looked fake" like if j. nicholson was just "plopped" there. if you're wondering which scene. it's the one where he is in the red backgrounded bathroom speaking with the butler about correcting his wife. of course the m1000sv s-cable also helps out. very much worth the flow if willing to spend. one wire a week or putting on layaway is also a good way to get what you want and not get sick of this eternal hobby. i've noticed increased video performance on all dvd's and dss broadcasts with monster. just a great wire to invest in.
  3. oh btw, check out the audioreview.com site. 142 reviews with a 4.76 avg out of 5 star for rf-3's and you surely can't go wrong. but otoh, it's what your ears like and want. good luck!!!!
  4. monitor 9's? I auditioned m9's before purchasing my rf-3's. you just can't go wrong with th rf-3's. as far as the imaging, soundstaging, dynamics,etc...they have it all. i have mine hooked to a denon 4800 rec'r. i listened to my girlfriends keith sweat cd in stereo mode. if anyone is familiar with the 4800, i had it on 00 volume(reference level). i just can't believe how awesome and tight the speaks sound. as far as soundstage...awesome. imaging so good, the snare drum along with other instruments and vocals, sound like it's coming from the center speaker. my speaks are spread 10' apart and are slightly toed in. listening position is also 10', forming an equilateral triangle if connecting speaks to head. my pic is in the "odds and mods" section so you could get a better idea. i just couldn't see myself sitting in front of monitor 9's when for the same price i could, and now own a pair of rf-3's. i will upgrade to the 5's in due time.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Fried Elliott: Well, I knew this would be in here somewhere. Having been a physicist in a previous life, I have always been amazed at the claims people made for these esoteric speaker cables. Give me a break. I am glad to see a ratioanl understanding of the issues prevail here. In another past life as a CIO, I found that our number one HW tech support problem was cable ENDS or noise pickup from unshielded cable. Its amazing what an untwisted pair cable can pick up (second place was poor power conditioning.) I would definitely spend more $ on cables that were properly shielded and terminated. Otherwise, the input/cable/output circuit is all the same.
  6. hey there drewtzer, i could tell you this. if you could afford to pay a buttload of dough on wires, than so be it. i've used ratshak wires, interconnects and s-video cables. i've had no problems with them. when i began to upgrade my old system and saw those ratshak interconnects and cheap cables hangin' off the back, i had to do something about it. i went for the monster products. as many others posted, wires are wires. but i do know that if you buy a good quality monster wire like their m-series, i don't think there will be a drastic difference opposed to a $10,000 wire. you don't have to take my advice, but bought a wire every paycheck. there is an extremely noticable difference with s-video m-1000sv by monster. my optical wires are the interlink lightspeed200. not much difference with sound, just built better and more reliable. worth the dough.
  7. yeah boomer, i've noticed alot of "audiophiles" on audioreview.com are on that sight 24/7. most have nothing to do x-cept razz other peoples hard-earned equipment which makes me wonder if they do have anything at all. i do a shift every three months where i sit in front of a computer all day for a month and when i first started i noticed the same guys always arguing and razzing about some of the pettiest stuff. perhaps just jealousy. i wonder if they even read what i put for set-up specs. do they notice that i wrote "wires will be replaced with bi-wire" and such? anyway, thanks for the input. i noticed "friends" start to diminish when you decide to put money toward home products instead of that jet-ski or atv as well. i much rather have my system during the winter than a jet-ski.
  8. hey thanks matthew2. i should've taken the pic with wires alone. i have the pic on audioreview.com as well and the only thing negative is the wires being exposed. i have all component wires strapped separate from the power wires. since i haven't bought new biwire yet for the mains, i'm using some short length monster cable for the time being. therefore it looks "messy". i thought the whole time that it looked mint. my sub once stood underneath the shelves hiding the power strip, but the sound is best where it currently is. the strip has been replaced with monster hts1000. i plan on mounting it under shelf out of the way. if you look closely, all the power wires(5) are strapped together leading to the strip. that single wire is a coax-cable wire seperated.
  9. thanks all for the compliments and suggestions. i couldn't wait to show others my own system. i'm still waiting for the pic to come up on audioreview.com. i want to see how bad(or good) the critisism get's. the blue paint is just on that background wall. the rest of the room is a white with a hair touch of barely noticable blue in it. thanks again for the positive feedback.
  10. i already tried putting sub where plant is. i get max results at current location. i will try to right of tv as well once i get the new bi-wire. that will give me something new to do. but for now this is the best spot. i also have another sofa (not shown) facing tv(sweet spot). i want a longer cable so i could put sub behind it since the rf-3's already put out much bass. another future experiment. if i did it all at one time, there would be no more fun to look forward to, plus my girlfriend loves when i re-arrange stuff when she's watching movies.
  11. hey myram, that's a jbl psw1200 sub. my other components are as follows... receiver: denon avr4800 dvd player: pioneer cdv302d dss: mitsubishi sr-sd1 game system: playstation 2 t.v.: panasonic superflat ct27sf12 rears: cambridge soundworks surround 5.1 di-bipoles cables: monster lightspeed200 optical x2(ps2,dvd to amp) lightspeed100 optical x1(dss to amp) m1000sv s-video cable x3(dvd,dss,amp to tv) m351 subwoofer cable x1 mcx-is bi-wire for rc-3 ....rf-3's yet to be bi-wired
  12. well if all went well, my system should be available for everyones viewing pleasure. rf-3 mains, rc-3 center, and rs-3 or rs-5's are in the works for the fall/winter project.
  13. might sound silly, but does listening to two seperate sets of speakers, one set on "speaker a" and the other on "speaker b", at the same time ruin the amp or overwork it more? for example, on my denon 4800, i can choose to listen to a dedicated set of rears for music(a), and another set of rears for theater(. now if i have them (both a+ running simultaneously will that wear down or overwork the amp? it says on the manual that it may damage the amp. but with some manuals, i'm not sure if they could mean putting to speakers on one wire(linking). i had two seperate rears at one time(set a and set , but now i'm back to just one set(a) for music and movies.
  14. well the only thing i could think of that seems to be ruining maxg's surround performance and maybe quite a few others is the amp thats spelling begins with a "y" and ends with an "a". it's too bad. it seems like yamaha (oops, didn't mean to put that there) put's a zillion dsp modes into there amps/receivers and end up sounding like, well maxg explained it. i guess that's why i opted for denon. i didn't want to buy a receiver from a company that manufactures motorcycles, jet-skis, and an endless array of other products. i WOULD buy their bikes though. 5 channel stereo sounds awesome. but i really don't want to make an arguement about it. i would never give up my surround setup though. what would happen if you brought a date over the house (granted you're not married/taken) and she never experienced a chest pounding movie outside a theater. she'd be awed. my girlfriend loves my setup and says she probably wouldn't want to watch another movie without it. even 5 channel stereo envelops the room with sound. i just don't understand. some of you should go to the dtsonline.com site and order some 5 channel music....and ditch the yamahas.
  15. still waiting..........................................................................................................................
  16. just one word will describe that system...holysh*t
  17. just how well do you think the rs-7's will sound with the rf-3's and rc-3's? i haven't bought new rears yet. i was eventually going to get the rs-3's. but now
  18. that is a beautiful thing to know. looking forward to seeing them.
  19. cool, it's pretty weird seeing someone online so close to home, not to mention dealing with the same sales reps. bill is probably the only one i know there who owns klipsch speaks. john y. isn't a big fan of klipsch, so if i have questions about them, i usually ask bill. i do the buying from john y. though. he's good with price negotiating. he's also been my sales rep the past two years. if you ever want to give an e-mail, it's micronob@hotmail.com. who knows, we probably been there at the same time. i'm going on vacation after i leave here from work. i'll be using my step-brothers computer to place my setup on audio review.com.
  20. bensilb, i shop at the newington tweeter(berlin tpke). i deal with john y. i've brought him tons of business from friends and brother-in-law whom couldn't get enough of my "budget setup" so they got their own. my setup: denon avr4800 pioneer c302d three disk dvd player(will be upgrading) panasonic ctsf12 27" superflat tv mitsubishi sr-sd1 direct tv dss playstation 2 3 m-1000 silver monster s-video cables 2 monster interlink lightspeed 200 optical cables 1 monster interlink lightspeed 100 optical for dss newly purchased monster mcx-is bi-wire for center klipsch rf-3 mains(not bi-wired yet), rc-3 center cambridge soundworks "surround 5.1" bi-dipole rears will have denon poa-5200 ex amp and rs-3's by end of year. by the way, is this considered budget?
  21. there are a couple of things that are going to happen if/when you purchase these speaks. you may have to go to the plastic surgeon to get the permagrin on your face reconstructed back to normal. you may lose a few friends as well due to jealousy and envy. OR you may lose your girlfriend due to the fact that you're spending more time in front of your speaks than with her. anyway, very good choice. don't let anyone say anything negative, they just know you are getting a set of speaks they wish they would have originally bought. including the sales rep.
  22. will klipsch ever come out with a front firing subwoofer? i own a f.f.sub and just felt in theory they would move more air, thus giving more "feel". i have a friend with a bottom firing sub and that also feels good on the chest. is there really a difference? i plan on purchasing a velodyne f.f.sub, nothing against klipsch, i just don't think the ksw line have a very attractive look to them. i currently own a jbl psw-1200 120watt powered sub. i've owned it 5 years and was bought open box. it's black ash finish matches my rf-3's beautifully, but i want something brand new.
  23. just as a reminder Olaf, check out the "audioreview" website if you have yet to do so. there are 124 reviews on the rf-3's and has a 4.74/5 avg. that alone may help you find sonic bliss in the bosom of your speaks.
  24. just gotta change that amp/receiver unit. i'm running mine through a denon avr4800 and they sound soooo sweeet! as far as i know, the receiver your using is similar to what i may have heard them through when i thought i was going to puke all over the soundroom.~ anyway, they will sound mint when/if you make that MAJOR change. i'm sure many others will highly agree. as they say, the speakers aren't at fault, they are only reproducing the true sound your amp/receiver was designed to put out. if the receiver is one of the "lower-end" models, then it will produce lower end sound. if you plan on upgrading it and want to stay under $1000.00 budget, i would HIGHLY recomend a denon avr2801, or the 3801 for an all-in-one receiver. good luck.
