  1. And to any of you spies from Warner Bros, no I have NO plans or desire to sell that edited version. I could just skip that chapter I know, but if I make a backup copy for myself, why not get it on one DVD-R by editing out any chapters I don't want?
  2. Does DVD XCopy or similar programs allow you to edit the movies, such as choosing individual chapters to keep or skip? For instance, suppose I wanted to delete the chapter in Reloaded where "Frenchie" as I call him is boring me senseless with endless chatter and rambling of psychology and metaphysics etc. He talked too much. Could I copy the disc deleting that chapter or any other I wanted for the sake of space?
  3. I have a Win98SE PC which I'll soon be retiring, but want to back up my bookmarked favorite websites and forum passwords to a floppy. My next PC will be an XP machine. How do I go about backing up that data to a disk/disc? Many thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Just got back from seeing it. The ending was a little confusing for me, but overall, a considerable improvement over Reloaded. You'll get your money's worth. As for IMAX, well I got the IMAX effect since we sat in the second row from the front right near the screen. I was craning my neck through the whole movie just about. Got a big picture experience. We didn't choose to sit that close; they were the only seats available in a packed house.

  6. Anyone here have Denon's new flagship do everything player? Experience and impressions?
  7. I read yesterday in one of the HT magazines that many of the cable companies offering digital cable are doing what is called "pixel grooming." IOW, what they're doing is taking an HD signal and stripping some of the info out of it in order to save on bandwidth and making a bigger profit. When the reporter called up his local cable company and asked questions, the person either pretended not to know anything about it or maybe actually didn't. She told him she'd check into it and get back with him, but never did. The cable companies seem to have this attitude of "You'll get a true 1080 signal out of us only after you pry it from our cold dead hands!" The FCC under Michael Powell is trying to get some cooperation from them, but they don't want to give it. Their so called "cooperation" is for PR consumption only. Action or Inaction as the case may be speaks far louder than words.
  8. This might be old news for some of you A/Vphiles, but: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/oct03/10-08PioneerAmpPR.asp
  9. There's a new 22 song collection of the Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits that's been digitally remastered and appropriately titled Steve Miller Band: The Complete Greatest Hits. Just bought it yesterday but haven't had a chance to give it a spin.
  10. For anyone who may not know it yet, the official theatrical trailer for LOTR: ROTK is now available online. Worth a look see, especially to view the Large version. www.lordoftherings.net
  11. Boston-their first album. Now on SACD I think. An instant classic Foreigner-their debut album also. Now available on DVD-Audio Eagles-Hotel California. Get it on DVD-Audio Bob Seger-Night Moves among others. His Greatest Hits CD contains about 13-14 of his greatest newly remastered. Pink Floyd's-The Wall, which someone may have already mentioned. Santana-Abraxas Jimmy Hendrix-anything Beach Boys-Pet Sounds & Endless Summer Beatles-anything. If you get "One" it will have about 25+ of their best stuff newly remastered. And of course: Elvis-30 #1 Hits now available on DVD-Audio.
  12. I am STILL waiting on Pulse to come to DVD, but I hear that DG finished his remixing on it and handed it over to James Guthrie to finish. Maybe it won't be too much longer now. I've been waiting so long to hear Shine On... in more than 2 channels.
  13. Well, the Pink Floyd Dark Side... DVD was released on Tuesday. Anyone bought it yet, and how is it?
  14. Then I guess you could probably get equal or better performance from the higher end units from Sony, Denon, Pioneer, etc. Right? Like with the Sony 999-ES or Denon 2900, Pioneer DV-47 and the like?
  15. How about the Sony 34" 16:9 direct view HDTV? I saw it at Sears last night and it looked impressive. How is it for day to day use with/without HD broadcasts? Good with DVD?
  16. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90122562&loc=111 Does anyone have this? Does it live up to its billing?

    HTPC ?

"Plus, Computer DVD's can do HD-DVD's which no standalone dvd player can do right now." What future A/V systems will need is Windows Media Video 9 decoding for stuff like T2 Extreme and similar releases. Including the WMV codec should be easy to do; today's DVD players and receivers decode everything else.
  18. Take care Justin and stay as healthy as you can.
  19. Care to post a link for the rest of us to enjoy?
  20. The DSOTM copy that I have is fine.
  21. In talking about black v grey, I was talking about the actual exterior frame of the TV, not the borders on the inside surrounding the video. I meant the frame with the Pioneer(or otherwise)brand name on it. And yes, I know that the one at BB is not the Elite. I just couldn't remember the name. Elite 1000 you say for the black bezel frame?
  22. I hope you got over that health problem you had a while back that you picked up from someone at school. A bad virus or infection or something that was going around school a few months ago. Hope you get better soon. Also, spending too much time at the PC will sap your strength and late night net surfing and gaming will deprive you of the proper amount of sleep to strengthen your immune system. Sleep deprivation and fatigue weakens the immune system and everything else. I should know; been there and done that too much myself. I've since cut back.
  23. It's actually a 1080P recording, not I. Check out the discussion of this new DVD in the DVD forum.
  24. FYI, Tuesday, June 10th, Norah Jones' Come Away With Me will be available as a hybrid SACD/CD for your listening pleasure. Best Buy will be carrying them according to Sunday's newspaper ad supplements. http://www.bestbuy.com/mandm/ProductInfo.asp?ProdType=music&ST=11221645

If the new blue-laser DVD players are not backwards compatible, expect a whole lot of very pissed off people. The new players should also have an extra red laser or something to read older DVDs. If DVD players can also read various DVD and CD types,...
