You represent the good will of the forum well. ---------------- Dandy Dee: I agree and here's a portion of my e-mail to Gil: "I just love this forum and what people do for each other here. I've been a member of this form since 2001, but even though I don't post much, I read it everyday and gain great wisdom." I will keep you posted on my adventure. I'm still in denial that the woofers bad, but will have to come to grips if in fact they are bad, sooner or later. Rick: I'll try your suggestion once I can find someone to do the soldering for me. I'm very sloppy at it and this will require some precision. Thanks again, ALL, for your continued support in this very unfortunate adventure. JJ
  2. Let me say Thanks again for all your input/advice. I have obtained an OHM meter and did some testing. (FYI the unit is a BK Precision model #2945 made by the Dynascan Corp.) I set the meter to 2K and did some quick testing at lunch. It got a reading of between .0003 and .0004 at the following points on one of the speaker: 1. Directly at the woofer(on the tabs, solder joints, etc)..This should answer your Q DeanG 2. Inside the hatch where the leads attach to the inside door. 3. Outside on the binding post. 4. and lastly at locations 3 & 4 on the x-over. Speaker 2 I got readings a little higher (.0004-.0005) at the same locations mentioned above. But everyonce in awhile I could here static through either the mid range or the tweeter while doing the testing. Since I didn't encounter this on the other speaker, I decided to swap the wire from speaker 1 and put it on speaker 2. Hmmm. now I get no readings, deader than a door nail on speaker 2. Okay?? So I take off the wire on speaker 2 and reinstall it on speaker 1 and now I get no reading here as well. Now on to something even more weird about this whole fiasco. The only wire that would work (when it did work) was some flat-low profile braided Mon@#er 10ga wire crap that came with the speakers. So I ask you this, what type of wire should I be using from the X-over to the bass bin? 14ga Carol wire surely didn't work wether is was bare wire of using crimped on spade connectors. DeanG: I also tried connecting the amp directly to woofer, but no bass output. Dead silence. I haven't tried your battery trick but will try that as well. I do have one other test I can do, but I want to do this as a last resort and that is to canniblize my Single Cornwall that I got last month. It just happends to be from the same year as the K-Horns, and I know that this one works. GRRRR!! It's not looking good for the home team. Thanks again for you time and guidence, it is very much appreciated. JJ
  3. Bob/Thump: Thanks for your responses. Bob: I haven't heard these work, just took the person's word for it. There's one born every minute, right? I will have access to an OHM meter tomorrow and I post the results. Thump: I did run the speaker wires from the amp to the posts on the woofer door and left the lead disconnected to the crossover. Is this what you meant by by-passing the X over? Thanks again guys. JJ
  4. Hi: I'm getting no bass from either speaker, but I'm getting sound out of the tweeters and the midranges. Granted they sound tinney, but there is sound. Here is what I have done so far to track down where the problem lies. 1. Check all the solder connections on all the drivers, including the woofer inside the 20X20 door/hatch. They all look good and clean. 2. Tightend all the connections on the X overs. 3. Tried numerous ways of connecting speaker wires (soldered, bare, crimped) 4. Cheched to make sure everything is wired in phase Still no bass. This is my first go around with K-horns, so hopefully it as easy as me not hooking them up correctly. Here's how I'm connecting the speakers from my amp source(Denon 3801, for now) From the amp, I'm connecting the speaker wire to posts' 1 & 2 (AA Crossover) From the cross-over posts' 3 & 4, I have speaker wire running to the screw type binding post on the 20X20 hatch. Thank you in advance for your help. JJ
  5. Thump: The center channel was a KV-3, I was kinda hopin' that it was an Academy. The rest of the speakers were in pretty tough shape, esp. the Cornwall II's. They are no where close to his asking price of $800.00 as well as the other speakers. I didn't view the Carver/Adcom stuff. The guy selling all this stuff has seen his share of hard luck/times and you could tell that he was really sad to have to sell all his Klipsch speakers. JJ
  6. Well, I'm a proud owner of a set of K-Horns mentioned above. Thank You for the heads up, Thumplestiltskin!!! They aren't in the best of shape, no major corner dings, the grills are in pretty good shape but there is some major chipping on one speaker where the top unit rests. The guy was selling them as 1983's in Oak finish but they turned out to be: KB-WO Serial #'s 12S335 & 12S336 They will need to be re-done eventually, but for right now, they are tolerable. Now all I need is some corners and something decent to drive them with. JJ P.S. I'll post some pictures when I get them out of the kitchen.
  7. On my way now to check them out. We'll see what happends. JJ
  8. Where did you see this ad? I'm not too far away to take a peak at them. JJ
  9. I totally agree with you, Mike. I've owned my 16-46 for 4 years and I also by-pass the sub with some music, EXCEPT, when it comes to some great Pipe Organ recordings. I haven't heard a sub that matches the SVS when it comes to this type of music, IMHO. But in all fairness, I haven't had the pleasure to listen to the RSW series. JJ
  10. You may want to look into a program called ACT!. It's put out by a company called Best Software. It's very flexible and has many options to choose from when it comes to sharing the database. http://www.act.com/ JJ
  11. I believe that they are 68's. http://home.earthlink.net/~ivol/klipsch_cornwall/klipsch_date_codes.htm I don't know who to give credit, but I use this site alot to help in dating speakers.

  13. Good one Fini.... I'll have to start hanging out in the General Discussion forum to get my post count up.
  14. Thank You for the heads up. I would have missed it!!!!!
  15. Just put a couple of fake knobs and say its one of those fancy Sharper Image ambient noise thingys.....
  16. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32861&item=5717703433&rd=1 Sorry!!! Very poor use of cut and paste Just asking because the Serial #'s look sort of fishy compared to my RF-3 system and also my KLF-30's. Thanks JJ
  17. Obsidian: The Audio King Stores, as I understand it, are Authorized Dealers but under their parent company, Ultimate Electronics. I'm sorry to hear that you have had bad experience with Audio King. I have had nothing but great service at their Roseville location but you sure have to haggle alot to get them to come down in price. Jon
