  1. Well, I have the jukebox today. He changed out the computer and it works perfectly. Turns out it's definitely not going to need any tweeters. With tone controls set in the middle it's plenty bright! So, I guess that's that. He also brought over 450 records, so I've got a lot to pick through. Should be able to get it loaded up and labels printed out in the next few days hopefully. Pics will follow shortly! Thanks, Jon
  2. Well, no go on the jukebox yet. It was acting up, not grabbing the records. He said it hadn't been used in about a year so he was going to check everything out and fix whatever was wrong. He expected to be done sometime next week probably. However I did grab about 300 records for $100. However it's turning out to not be as good of a deal as I had hoped. Most are stuff I'm not interested in, and even worse, almost half of them are moldy! This has me very concerned because the jukebox was in the same room as the records. When I touched the one silver trim panel on the outside I thought I felt some mold. I really don't want to bring a moldy machine into my pristine house. I also wonder if that's what's causing the problem. It's a shame because he does good work, he just has a lousy house to keep the machines in. The area really should have dehumidifiers running all the time. So, I'm not sure if this is going to pan out or not. I'm going to talk to him again and ask if he can clean it up. He' asking $475 for the machine, so for that money it really needs to be right. -Jon EDIT: I'm picking through the records more and I realize the mold is totally inconsistent. Some are a bit moldy, while others are pristine. Kinda seems like they must have been pulled from different places and assembled in the boxes recently. He said some of them came from old jukeboxes he got. It's possible the bad ones were from a trade in jukebox that was store poorly before he got it? Just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  3. Thanks for all the information and suggestions. I'm packing up to go get the jukebox now! With any luck in a few hours it should be sitting in my living room getting my paltry few 45s put in. All the suggestions sound interesting, but they're more expensive than I had anticipated. I'm going to see how I like it as it is first, and go from there. I'll post pics once I have it! Thanks, Jon
  4. Hi Dave, That sounds good, will do. I'm planning on getting the jukebox on Tuesday. So if everything goes to plan I should hopefully be in the market any time after that. -Jon
  5. Ouch, that's definitely a little pricey. Not too far from the cost of the jukebox! I don't think it comes with records unfortunately, so I'm going to be looking for them. I'm looking for 60s through 80s. Beatles, Beach Boys, Doors, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project, Supertramp, etc. As far as speakers, I think I'll just enjoy the box as it is for a while. Perhaps I'll be perfectly happy with it as it is. I suspect I'll be busy enough grabhbing records, printing labels, and loading it up that I won't have time to focus on anything else. I'll be sure to post more pics when I get it!
  6. Hey guys, Got a strange one here. On Tuesday I'm planning on buying a 1982 Rock-Ola 488 Jukebox. It's a 45 rpm stereo machine with two 12" woofers and two 6" midranges. It's been fully refurbished both mechanically and electrically. Total disassembly of the mech, greased, new bushings, etc. Amp has been recapped, new transistors, etc. My concern is there's no tweeters. As a kid, I've always liked jukeboxes but thought most sounded too dull. I was thinking of some way of adding tweeters to it without modifying the cabinet. Then I got it, co-axial speakers! My only concern is finding something that will fit and sound decent. I don't want car speakers. I was thinking something older with a horn. To me it would make the most sense to leave the 12" drivers alone and look for 6" coax jobs. Did anyone make 6" coax units? Or should I look for 12" ones and leave the 6" hooked up too? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself since I haven't even seen the machine yet. I'm going mostly off of old memories. I'm just thinking it might be nice to add a little high end to it. Or would that bring out sounds from the amp, etc that I don't want to hear? LOL.
  7. Just opened them up and yes, K-77 Alnico Tweeters, K-55-V Midrange and K-22-EF Woofers with Type E crossovers.
  8. Since these were made in 1979, would they have the Alnico tweeters? Is the crossover the Model E? I'm not as familiar with Heresys versus the larger Heritage models.
  9. Here's some pictures. Sorry it took so long. As you can see, they're not perfect, but they're not disasters either. This is just a temporary setup to play with them. Not sure where I'm going to put them yet.
  10. I personally dig both the industrial look and size, I just can't afford them. If I could afford to take a week off work and make a vacation/road trip out of it, I'd be there in a heartbeat.
  11. Just out of curiosity, what kind of organ is in the way? Curious organists want to know! LOL.
  12. Ishwash, I don't have the Cornwalls or LaScalas anymore. At the time, I was living in a small apartment and felt they were just too big. The Cornwalls weren't bad, but the LaScalas were just unbearable in a small room. I was sitting too close and they were too aggessive. However, I sold the Cornwalls to my brother who uses them in his basement with the pool table, etc. So I still get to see and hear them every so often. -Jon
  13. Does anyone have a Klipsch logo they'd be willing to sell?
  14. Hello again! Long time no see everyone! I've been away for a while, but I always seem to find my way back here. Today, out of nowhere, I ran into a set of 1979 Heresy Birch Raws! Okay kids, find a comfy spot on the carpet, because it's story telling time..LOL! I work for a small family run auto parts store, and as such, I deliver parts to garages. One of our regulars is a one man affair, run by a guy probably in his 50s. Since I've started, he's had a set of Heresys in his garage, hooked up to on old silver Pioneer receiver playing classic rock and folk from his phone. It seemed to be going every time I came in. Most times we would end up chewing the fat, talking about his drag strip Chevy Vega with a 450 HP 454 in it. I'm pretty sure we could talk cars forever. A few days ago I came in and noticed the Heresys had been replaced with 4 Technics speakers. I was kinda surprised but didn't say anything at first. However, the Heresys were still in my mind. Today I finally spoke up. I said "So, you're replaced your speakers, huh?" Turns out a buddy was getting rid of them, and he liked the idea of having 4 speakers instead of 2, and wanted them to match. He asked me if I was interested in the Heresys, and said he'd sell them to me for $150. He warned that he thought a woofer was rubbing, so I prepared for the possibility of a replacement. They were tucked far back in his second garage, so I didn't look at them at that time. He also said if I bought them, he'd give me another set of speakers if I wanted to use them for the cabinets. Turns out they were Genesis G1+ speakers, a two way with inverted dome tweeter and foam surround 8" woofer which had deteriorated. I said I was definitely interested and arranged to come back after work. When I arrived, he had just installed a hub/rotor assembly on his 1983 Chevy C30 Wheel Lift Wrecker. Yeah, this guy has cool stuff! Next to it was an 80s Ford IDI Diesel Roll back. He took me back in his "storage area". Inside was a beautiful 1950s Lincoln that's been inside for decades. Gorgeous car, all covered and preserved. We go past several old pieces of equipment, tools, etc to the speakers. They're 1979 HBRs. I pulled the grilles off and gently pressed the woofers. One scraped a bit at first, however with a bit of careful manipulation and straightened out and seemed to move free. Not really sure why, but I didn't complain. Took them to his receiver back in the garage and hooked them up. Played some Pink Floyd and everything sounded fine so I bought them. Got them home and hooked them up to my living room with a Denon DP-23F Turntable with Shure M97XE --> Dynaco Pat 4 --> Parasound HCA-800 II. I found a great use for the Genesis speakers- when you lay them over, they're great speaker stands! As I type this, I'm listening to Joan Baez- DIamonds & Rust album. Even though I'm currently enduring what might quite possibly be the worst song she's ever written (Children & All That Jazz) the speakers sound great. 3 1/2 minutes of children's names mindlessly and endlessly rambled off has never sounded better. Okay, that God awful song is over so I can think again. I've played Beach Boys, Bread, and now Joan Baez. Other than sometimes the midrange being rather forward, they really do sound great. Definitely very revealing. I listened to a Klaus Wunderlich album (German pop organist who played a Wersi electronic organ) and it made me realize why Rodgers used to use LaScalas on it's smaller analog organs. There's something about Klipsch horn speakers that brings those old transistor organ voices to life. So, out of nowhere, I've suddenly been landed back into the Klipsch camp! So far, I've owned Cornwalls, LaScalas, and now Heresys. I'm not sure how things will play out for these ones yet. I'm thinking of trying them out in my keyboard room where I have 5 vintage keyboards hooked up to an 80s Peavey mixer with a Yamaha PA sub. I'm thinking that forwardness might bring my old keyboards to life too. Anyway I think this is enough of me rambling. It's dark now and my camera isn't so good at night, but I'll get pictures up tomorrow. They're not perfect, but I think they're darn good for $150. I'm looking forward to cleaning them up, maybe giving them a new coat of poly, and replacing a missing Klipsch logo. Thanks! Jon
  15. Hey guys, I'm moving on July 1st, and need to reduce inventory. I have a Marantz 2216B that I'm not using. Cosmetically it's in good shape, but it needs work electronically. It powers up, but it makes noise. Intermittent static, etc. Don't know what's wrong. Anyway, I don't want to throw it out, it's too nice. So, I'm offering it FREE to anyone who wants it and will fix it up. However, I NEED it out asap. The longer it stays, the more danger it's in. I live in Shawnee on Delaware, PA 18356. It's close to Stroudsburg. I can have it packed and shipped, but if you're far away, it could be costly. Local pickup would certainly be preferred. I also have some KLH model SIX speakers I could let go. They're not pretty, but they get the job done. Someone added a midrange, so now they're 3 way! LOL. Good for a garage, or re-finish em. -Jon
  16. Thanks again for the reply. Looks like this is gonna be a little out of my league. Think I'll put it back together, and I'll have to decide whether to get it repaired or get a newer amp. With the age of the caps and everything else, I'm kinda leaning towards the newer amp route. We'll have to see. Bad timing as I really don't have the money right now. Got laid off a couple weeks ago. Wish I could have fixed it myself to save money, but I'm better off leaving it alone.
  17. Thanks for the info. Is there a way I can test with a digital meter to see which transistor(s) is bad? Or does it require something more involved?
  18. Hey Guys, For a year or so, I've had an old Peavey CS-800 driving my Yamaha sub with an Eminence Kilomax 18" woofer in it. Until recently, all has been well. It's driven it in bridge mode with no issues. However, about a week ago, it made a short pop/buzz sound for just a second, then went away. It sounded to me like when you disconnect a cable with your amp on, so I shut it down and cleaned the connections, thinking maybe a cable was loose. When I started it back up the next day, all was well, and continued to be for the next week. Now today all was again well, I was watching a youtube video and paused it to use the bathroom. When I resumed, I realised I had no bass. I look over and the power light is out, but the fan is still on. Turned the amp off and back on, and still the same. Relay doesn't click, just the fan. Is this thing dead? I'm not super tech savvy, so short of checking fuses, etc I'm not really sure how to proceed. I know this amp's ancient, and not really worth much at all, so paying a shop to work on it wouldn't really be worth it. This is the second amp to die on me this year. Lost a Crest V450 earlier on the same sub and that was 10 years newer. Guess these old amps are getting long in the tooth and just don't have the oomph anymore. The sub is wired correctly, so shorts or anything like that. I just like my bass and I guess these old amps can't deliver. What would you recommend? Also, what do I do with these old amps? Throw them out? Anyone want them? I'm getting ready to move in a few weeks and don't really want to drag more stuff around than I absolutely have to. -Jon
  19. I was browsing ebay and stumbled on these. This is the only picture of the subs. Online searches have turned up nothing. Does anyone recognize these? I've never heard of SBAL and know nothing about them. Reminds me of a Cerwin Vega. Okay, glad I did some more research before posting the thread. Looks like it stands for "Sound Bridge Acoustic Labs". Made in Texas. Anyone familiar with the company? Looks like some pretty high end touring stuff according to their website. However, reading the PDF for their 3118SWF cabinet (closest I could find) it doesn't seem very professionally written. Some bad grammar, and incomplete specs (freq. response has no +/- db levels, etc). What say you? Thanks, Jon
  20. Hello again, It's been a while, but as always, I end up finding my way back here! A few days ago, I visited Music Go Round in Wilkes Barre, PA, and found an item I just couldn't resist- a Yamaha Club Series III Subwoofer with an Eminence Kilomax woofer in it for $160. I recognized the unmistakable metal heatsink on the front of the driver. I knew right away the driver alone was more than what they were asking, so I grabbed it. Great decision. The box may be huge, but this thing sounds fantastic. I'm powering it with a Crest V450 in bridged mode. It may only be around 450 watts, but for my living room, that's plenty! I've thrown it anything from pipe organs to 80s pop to modern electronica, and it's sounded great. I'm a drummer, and I really appreciate what this thing does for a kick drum. On a good recording, it has a way of making it sound like the bass drum is right in front of you. Impressive. I feel like I got a good deal on this cab. What do you guys think?
  21. Hey Guys, As some of you may know, I have a single University T-30 on a Klipsch K-700 horn that I haven't known what to do with. Well, I was just given a Rane AC22 active x-over and ME15B Equalizer when a church upgraded. So, I'm able to use this driver now, and would like to find it a mate. For MID/LF, I'm using an EV TL-style ported cab with 2 EVM-12L Series II drivers, and crossing over at 800 Hz. If I could afford it, I would quickly buy those lovely Radial horns being sold here, and find drivers for them, but that's way over my budget right now (out of work). Is there anyone out there with a T-30 they don't use any more? If so, I'd really like to pick it up from you. Also, if anyone has a K-700 horn they could let go of cheap, I'd be very interested! Any other ideas would certainly be considered. However, budget is tight, so I'm thinking the cheapest way will be to just find a mate to what I've got, rather than start over, right? Thanks, Jon
