  1. best sub for under $500 are the HSU Research VTF-2's. in fact they sound better than some subs in the over $1,000 range. go to www.audioreview.com and read up on them. returned my KSW-12's after I heard th VTF-2's .. i know it's not a klipsch. I've not heard the new klipsch sub and i'm sure they will be awesome but will also be pretty expensive.
  2. soundog's advice is the right way to do it. best place for my sub was right next to or right behind my couch ... sounds awesome there and i actually had to turn the sub down to 9 o'clock position.
  3. if you don't mind used speakers then i'd look for some of the older klipsch's ... let's see ... for $600 i've seen forte's, chorus and if you're lucky cornwalls - these speakers rock but they are also big. RF-7's are great speakers but not at their $2200 msrp - though some would swear that they are worth every penny. sorry ... but this is a Klipsch site so we're pretty biased with our choices.
  4. I also did the same comparison's with the legends, chorus II's and the RF-7 ... the chorus II's wins all around honors. in fact i now have 2 pairs of them .. but paid $600 and $700 and both are in mint condition. if you can pick them up for $500 then you are a lucky guy - but you better hurry or someone here will find that person. Let's see ... you're from Indiana ... what town are you in?. Just kidding - but really, take the chorus II's.
  5. thanks jethro and you're probably right. maybe turn them into a nice bookshelf type furniture for now while i await on what to do with them. I'll probably give them to my kids when they grow up - show them what quality speakers are all about.
  6. no can do dude ... wife wins out here but thanks. i may just keep it and maybe someday I'll do as you described .. or use it to trade for some cornwalls. anyone know how to store old speakers in an attic - would wrapping it in plastic do? i want to preserve these beauties.
  7. I went to an estate sale and found another pair of Chorus II speakers in black. Same as the ones I just got 2 weeks ago. Don't really know why I bought them but they just looked too good ... tested them when I got home and sounded just as good as the ones I got. What to do, what to do ... My wife wants speakers in mahogany for our theater room and I could not convince her to using the chorus since she said I already had a pair in the other room plus it's black. so I decided that I would get the new R?-7 series new to make her happy .. when she's happy then I'm happy. I'll be trading in my KLF-20, C7's to get them. Anyone interested in the chorus II's .. guaranteed it's in mint condition. bought them for $700 and it's yours for the same but you'd have to pick up - don't know how to ship plus it would probably be too expensive. hurry before I decide to keep them .. and please trust me when I say I'm not in this for the money. no, I'm not rich ... just starting to be a klipsch addict. and a Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!
  8. hey scott ... I have an ADCOM High Current Power AMP GFA-545II. I picked this up as a package deal when I bought my Chorus from this doctor who really took care of his equipments. Everything was in mint condition. He said that this amp is conservatively rated at 100WPC. I did a comparison between this and my acurus amp which was 200wpc and could hardly tell the difference ... of course i'm using super efficient klipsch speakers and I don't really have high end equipments. I also have the manual that came with it. if you're interested please email ... i can even send you a picture. I could sell it on ebay but would rather sell it to someone in this forum.
  9. OK ... i have the chorus II for stereo listening and loving it. I have the legends in my theater room and love those as well. I now have a pair of 6 month old KLF-20's not doing anything except sitting behind the chorus. Should I sell these or hold on to them for future trading up ... like some cornwall's or whatever? Will these guys be like the older models meaning once you can no longer get them then everyone talks about getting them? I know only time will tell but want to hear your thoughts .. thanks.
  10. check this out ... i had no place to put my KLF-20's so I put them behind the chorus since we have visitors coming. wow .. the bass just got tighter - loved them before but sounds better now. well, i don't think i'd keep the 20's behind there. can anyone out there explain - and what I should do to get the same sort of sound. never messed with room acoustics before so this is new to me .. what happened?
  11. sorry mike ... you were definitely the most influential for me ... your pictures and comments on the chorus II's did it. The reason I did take home the RF-7's was because the unfair comparison when in the show room - it just sounded terrible there. at home, they were much, much better but the chorus was it for me. Though the details on the RF-7's were incredible ... somehow it did not sound natural(to me anyway). no offense to the RF-7 folks out there .. in fact you have great speakers as well. Klipsch all the way !!!!
  12. hey georgec ... you have all those speakers ... that's just too cool ... so you can just switch them up whenever you get tired of any of them. you're right though, they are all great speakers. wish i could keep them all also but for now the chorus II's just wins out for me each time. hope my ears don't change or I'll be sorry.
  13. ok ... i brought the RF-7's home so i can compare with the KLF-20 and the new Chorus II I got last week. i played the RF-7's for almost 2 days straight to break it in a little. Testing was for 2 channel music only ... don't have the RC-7 so home theather testing was not possible. my test music was from an HDCD source and speakers were placed in the same location. Winner on all counts was the chorus II's ... the KLF-20's beat out the RF-7 in certain types of music and vice-versa ... although I must admit that I can listen to the RF-7's for a longer period when played loud as compared to the legends. so, back goes the RF-7's since I did not see it as a $1,000 upgrade from the KLF-20's if I were to trade it in - probably would have considered it if I did not purchase the chorus II's ... for all those who gave me the reassurance to buy the chorus - well, a big thanks to you guys ... these speakers are really awesome - even my wife likes them, which really says a lot!!! *** I know it was mentioned somewhere here that the RF-7's really need some high-end equipment to sound great but I just don't have them. Testing was done using Acurus A200FIVE amp, Denon 3801's as pre-amp, Denon DCM-370 cd player, JPS labs ultraconductor speaker cables and bettercables silver serpent interconnects.
  14. I have carpeted floors over concrete. anyone using spikes under their Chorus II or Forte speakers? I know they're on stands but would it improve sound if spikes were inserted under the base? if so, what do you guys use and where do you get them?. thanks.
  15. very nice setup .... i see you bought a table for your remotes ... just kidding.
  16. I did a brief test yesterday on the chorus II's i just got but now i need to put them where they belong. are the chorus's as sensitive to placement as the legend series. how far from back and side walls? just asking for a starting point for guys that has already done this ... i know eventually it's up to my ears. only have 12 feet width with big tv in the middle. I'm in the process of taking out my KLF-20's so I can start doing some heavy duty testing. thanks.
  17. you are funny disco_stu ... my best friend is an officer in the air force stationed in colorado also ... you guys should meet ... he's even funnier than you. I'll have him contact you ... thanks dougdrake ... i will try your suggestion carefully.
  18. anyone know how to take the cloth grill cover off from a chorus II speaker. hope it's not too stupid of a question but i just don't want to force it and mess up anything. thanks.
  19. hey mike ... just got my chorus II speakers ... drove 200 miles to pickup but was well worth it. I also picked up a couple of items from the same person. Bought the ADCOM GFA-545II and MITerminator 3 speaker cables got the last 2 items real cheap. All the equipments I bought looks brand new ... I kid you not ... they look as good as my other equipments that I purchased about 6 months ago. I'm going to compare the ADCOM to my Acurus A100 amp and also compare the MIT cables vs. my JPS labs cable. The losers get sold - acurus amp 3 weeks old and the JPS Labs cables are 6 months old. Anyway, here's my quick initial impression comparing the Chorus II with my KLF-20 ... much SMOOTHER!!! -this is the first thing that came to mind. I'll play around this weekend and see which I will keep. I know you'll say the Chorus II's but I have to be fair - plus I already have another pair of the KLF-20's in my other room. Anyone here need some equipments just let me know. Here's what I'll probably be selling: 100 Watt amp (acurus or adcom) speaker cables (MITerminator 3 or JPS Labs Ultraconductor biwire (paid $400 for these) KLF-20's (I can still upgrade to the RF-7's with these from HIFI buys - so if anyone intersted and your near Atlanta - you pay what I'll be asking for them and I can get you the RF-7's plus the difference. You'd probably end up paying $1,700 for brand new RF-7's but I have to do the upgrade) hope i'm making sense.
  20. not a problem ... take it easy.
  21. hey guys ... i'm about to pickup chorus II speakers in a few days. it's about 4 hours away from my house ... the fellow seems to be a real nice guy and guaranteed that these are in mint condition. He's also got a KV3 center and an adcom 545 amp(100 watts?) he's selling. i have no use for these items but if someone wants them i can pick up while i'm there then ship to you ... of course you pay for the item and shipping. i'm not looking to make any money at all on this deal ... just a favor to the members of this forum. contact me if interested and let me know what you want to offer for them - he may go cheap since i'm buying his big speakers. items are in great condition but i will look and test of course. i'm willing to put up the money first but you have to be really serious - you have till tomorrow PM to contact me.
  22. thanks .. i'll make sure they don't touch. there's no indicator which pair is for low or high. I have the JPS Labs ultraconductor cables. Sounds much better to my ears than the monster cables they replaced - but don't want to touch this subject.
  23. hi .. i know this was asked before but did not really understand the answer. i have some pretty decent biwire speaker cables but now want to use it on speakers that are not biwirable. will i be losing anything if i did not hook up the other pair ... of course i'll make sure they're not touching anything. they're banana plugs so i can't combine them. please explain whether there's a problem or not. thanks. 24. In Process means between a few days and a few weeks - sorry, don't mean to discourage but that was my experience. on the positive side, they all came in great condition - bought speakers and acurus amps. notice i said speakers but no brand ... too embarrased to mention here ... honestly it wasn't for me!!!
  25. what happens if you don't really have that much room?. i'm building a second home theater room that's only 12 feet wide and 20 feet long but my couch will be about 13 feet from the front wall. i'm putting a 50 inch projection tv so as you can see i don't really have the recommended placement. i was thinking of the rf7's or the chorus II - would the chorus have the same type of restrictions or can i place them about 1.5 feet front and side. seems like you'll need so much room to optimally use the rf7's and from other threads i've read that you'll also need pretty high end equipment so it will sound decent. so did klipsch target the rich for the rf7 ... unfortunately i'm not one of them. i know kain64 started this thread and i apologize for jumping in with my own situation and thanks for any insight anyone can give ... want to make up my mind by this week.
