trying to raise money to buy cornwall's locally and with the economy today (or should i say, with the Stock Market today) i don't really want to dip into savings. so i'm offering a couple of items for sale .... Denon 3801 - truly awesome receiver. i replaced with an outlaw 950 preamp and i'm trying to convince myself that i did the right thing. not much difference in sound especially when i used external amps on the 3801. Only thing is that the 3801 does not have DPLII but a feature some folks don't even look for. For those who wants to experience 5.1/7.1, DTS, DTS-ES ... etc. sound then this would be a great start. Absolute mint condition but it is a year old. Klipsch RB5-II Black - Brand new pair. I bought 2 pairs a few months ago and only using a pair in my living room. well, i lied ... i did plug it in to test. I'm sure you guys know how these speakers sound. Adcom GFA-545II or Acurus A100 (both are 100 watt Amps) - need to keep one so whichever one sells first. i have chorus II's, KLF-C7 and RS-7's - the quintets just would not be able to keep up. but you're right about the materials available for 6.1/7.1 - not much out there yet but i was just thinking ahead.

bought an RB-5 for my rear surrounds based on the same info i read .. my sides are RS-7's. but the RB-5's is too tough to hang and can't really be too close to the wall since it's rear ported. can anyone recommend another type of speaker to use. i can't use full range speakers for surrounds due to room limitation so it must be mountable somehow. what if i just used another pair of RS-7's for the rear surrounds?

hi Frzninvt, can you explain more why 18" drone is better than 15". i have a pair of chorus ii's as well and never really understood the difference between passive radiators vs. ports. especially positioning ... can i put the chorus ii's closer to the back wall than let's say a KLF-20 since it's vented in the back? thanks, butch

Here's what I've been playing with the last month or so. Since everyone in this forum has been talking about tube amps I finally gave in and bought an ASL 8 Watts tube amp with Sophia 300B Mesh tubes paired up with my Chorus II's and all I can say is WOW!!!. I get all the bass I need and more - best speakers I've heard so far but I've never tried the cornwalls which folks says are even better. It just never ends but I guess that's what makes this hobby fun. You should definitely give the chorus a try and depending on how much you paid for it, you can even make money if you decided that it's not for you ... sell it to the folks here or on ebay. I also auditioned the RF-7 in my house and based on the equipment I had at the time I just liked the Chorus II's better ... amps used were Acurus. I've read here that when matched with the proper equipment the RF-7's are unbeatable in sound but i did not have the money to even try. But now I'm a true believer of this fact and for me, tubes are the way to go.

I'm willing to trade if you are .. we each take care of our own shipping. Let me know if you're willing to explore the possibility - if you are then please send pictures of your cornwalls. thanks. *** I know the cornwalls are a lot more expensive to ship than the RB5's but that's all I can offer. Don't know if this is a fair trade in everyone's eyes but that's all up to you .. maybe we both come out with what we want ... or maybe not.

I guess it's not a good time to buy. Maybe I'll hold up till maybe tax time. More power to us Klipsch owners ... I'll just sit back and watch the biddings. Just traded in my KLF-20's for 2 pairs of RB-5II's plus a little bit of cash. One pair for my 14 year old and one for my wife in the living room. did the klipsch stock just go up? seems like everything's selling for a lot more these days. i love klipsch, especially the used market because they were great buys for the money - but now these used equipments are selling for more than their original price. cornwalls for almost $2,000, academy for $600 plus shipping ... man, i'm just going to have to wait for these prices to go back to a reasonable level before i can build my dream system. but i'm sure they're worth it if you had the money .... *** nice pictures.

and to think i passed one up a few months ago because it was at $800. something does not jive about that auction - but yeah .. it's all about presentation. The pictures, the link to the review and the fact that he was only going to charge $70 for shipping. This guy certainly knew how to advertise - gee, i could have bought a pair, pay $1,000 for shipping and it still would not have cost that much. To the person that bought the speakers ... my hat's off to you ... i'm sure you'll be happy with them. I guess it's now going to take me longer to find cornwall's since i don't have that kind of money. and to think i passed up a pair of klipschorn selling locally for $1,500.

hey ed ... actually i do have the MG-SI15DTS right now. the switch from pentode to triode snapped off so i'm having it replaced ... but also have the option of changing if i want. The orchid model is supposed to sound better but a little more expensive but less power. do you think it's worth the $300 difference?. It does have a remote control but i'm hoping the price difference is because of the design and tubes used and not the remote.

thanks kh ... that's the same thing this person told me ... that the actual output of klipsch speakers are less than what's in the specs. anyone feel that i should worry about driving the chorus with 3.5 WPC?

Hi all ... happy new year!!! How accurate is the sensitivity rating on the klipsch speakers ... the chorus II in particular. It's listed at 101db and i normally don't care since i'm using a 200WPC SS amp. Well now i'm thinking of buying an ASL Orchid SET integrated amp ... it's a 3.5 WPC 2A3 integrated. The person i'm buying this from highly recommends it but only if the sensitivity rating of my speakers is as stated ... so i told him i'd ask the folks here. Comments anyone ......

got this link from someone here: http://www.audiotweaks.elosoft.com/browseSet06.htm so i decided to put my chorus II's on a platform with 3 spikes. i went to the sporting goods store and bought a pack of field points to use for spikes... cost $2.50 for about 15 of them. i then went to home depot and had them cut me 2 - 15 1/2 by 18 1/2 hardwood board ... cost me $9.00. i then bought a can of black satin spray paint and painted the sides of the board ... cost $2.00. i then placed my speakers on top of my new stand ... turned on my stereo and wow!!! - bass much tighter and a pretty noticable improvement all around. my room has heavy carpet pads and berber carpet on top of concrete. now, the speakers are only touching the concrete floor on the 3 points per speaker. pretty cool and inexpensive tweak ... don't know if it will work for everyone but it did for me.

After reading lynnm's post i decided to call wen-li at eAudionet and here's what he said comparing the MGSI15-DTS vs the AQ1003DT ... "The MG SI 15 DTS can be played at either Triode mode at 5W or Pentode mode at 15W, while the AQ1003DT is mainly played at 30W Pentode mode. Pentode mode is push-pull amp, similar to Class AB solid state amp. The Triode mode is similar to solid state Class A amp. The triode mode will be my choice for your loudspeakers. You will enjoy sweeter sound, very musical, and very clean music." Now he sells both and the AQ1003DT cost more but being an honest and knowledgeable fellow he's convinced me to go for the MGSI15 DTS model. Heck, he even has a trade up policy ... I will order first thing monday. Now - where can i learn more about tubes like how to care for them ... cleaning or other maintenance. Thanks all for all your replies.

Crb600 ... your setup closely matches mine. was the ASL really a big improvement over the acurus? where did you buy your ASL amp?. lynm ... i looked up the ASL Wave 8 and wow - that's pretty cheap (why?). have you actually had a chance to audition them? where did you buy your ASL from? my wife said that i could buy something for xmas so i decided that i'd want to try tube amps .. nothing too expensive so from reading here i think i'm leaning towards the Antique Sound Labs. Now for my question ... i'm currently using an acurus A200FIVE amp and using my denon 3801 as pre's and chorus II speakers. This works pretty good for home theater and for 2 channel listening i'm using a denon HDCD player hooked in to the Ext. Input of the 3801 - so it bypasses all that surround stuff (i think) and it sounds pretty good. anyway, if i used a tube amp for my fronts using the same setup would i really hear a big difference listening to stereo and also, how does this affect the sound when watching movies. I guess what i'm trying to ask is - is it worth it? or should i just try to setup another system just for stereo listening. For all you tube lovers out there, please give me your opinion. thanks.

hey bill, the going rate for a new one right now is $350 and possibly less ... ubid sells them, onecall.com ... etc. just wanted to let you know so you don't set your expectations too high. i have one also that's just sitting in my closet and i decided to just keep it for future use. may actually be worth more in the future. anyway, just trying to help out.

those speakers suck - get rid of them. JUST KIDDING !!! - I've been looking for a pair so if you do get convinced that somehow you want to sell them please let me know.
