  1. The rf-7ii and the rc-64ii are built here in hope. I believe the rest are built (in the reference line) in china but the 7s I know for sure are built here. I'll sleep alittle better tonight now. Not that there is anything wrong with "made in China" (I did enjoy the Swan speakers I once had), but Klipsch and USA are what I've come to expect. Well I’ve had lots of the china built speakers too (klipsch reference) and I must have liked them or I don’t think I would have ever spent the money I spent on the ones built here. But I must say one looks like it’s built on a huge factory line and the other looks almost hand crafted.
  2. You have a rare opportunity that most of us never have to have both speakers and have no time limit to decide
  3. Best part is you don’t have to choose right away. You can run the rf-7s for the next month and get use to them. By then you should know what you like better because first impressions can sometimes go both ways but after a good month you should know. []

  5. I guess that would have been my guess also but since I hadn’t heard the rf-5s I didn’t want to assume. My room is pretty small 12x26x8 and I sit about 12’ from the speakers so half the room is behind me. When I upgraded from the rf-82 to the rf-7ii the upgrade is huge in every way possible. I guess every room is different though, and I think sometimes we can get comfortable with what we have and for some people different (even if better) can seem off not saying that’s the case here
  6. Not running a sub changes everything. To give a good review of any speaker in a 5.1 or a 7.1 system is going to be so different without the sub. I’m a little surprised the 7s didn’t blow you away I haven’t had the old ones in my home but I have heard them and love the sound. I haven’t heard the rf-5s though and in a small room with no sub and the volume never to loud being in an apartment I guess I can see you might not see a lot of upgrade. When you are using a sub or subs and in those parts with lots of bass the better speakers are going to cut though better and sound better though out the movie and they won’t get drown out by the sub or subs.
  7. My personal opinion is the rf-7ii is a better sounding speaker I think most people that have heard both have said the same thing. The review I read said they have better midrange and most if not all of the small amount of harshness in the old 7s is gone. I think I would be very happy with either but I liked the look and sound of the new ones.
  8. The rf-5 has the standard 1” horn right? Vs the the upgraded horn of the rf-7?
  9. I couldn’t be happier with the xpa-5 huge improvement over my avr amp. If you run just 5 speakers like I do avr can still be decent. I’ve have heard though when you go 7.1 the drain on the avr is really bad. So if you run 7.1 I would say it’s a must (separate amp) emotiva is probably the best dollar value of anything I’ve ever run across not just amps. But I would wait tell New Year’s they have great sales then think I paid 707 total to my door. Unless they have a sale before then keep an eye out. Also you can find them used on audiogon.com but they sell super-fast and for almost same price as new http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG7ll5Q8NNYhoADW1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1MGd0MHI5BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA1ZJUDAyM18xNTU-/SIG=11c13rsj7/EXP=1304664025/**http%3a//www.audiogon.com/
  10. Every time I see someone with a pic of the rf-7ii I get a feeling of jealousy tell I look up and see mine[]. Congrats on your speakers I know you love them.
  11. What’s worth the extra money will change with everyone’s budget and ears. I paid a lot less for my 7s. I don’t think at the time I would have paid that. After having them for about 4mo though I would pay 2200 in a heartbeat. Keep in mind there is always a better deal or value around the corner and you could drive yourself crazy trying to get the best deal or value vs dollar. Buying speakers that are discontinued will probably give a better value for your dollar then a new flagship line speaker. If you do buy the 63 or the 83 I would look at trying to get the old rc-64. Probably could sell or trade your 64ii
  12. Depends on your budget if you are ok spending the money on rf-7ii then it would match your rc-64ii for look and sound but if that’s not in your budget 82s-83s all would be great upgrades. Rf-63 for 1k is a great value for sure. I’ve owned the 82s and 7s both are great speakers for the money. I think it’s all about what you would be comfortable spending. I’ve read that the rf-82 isn’t much of an upgrade over the rf-62 I kind of don’t know if that is true to my ears I felt the 82s had more of everything when comparing the two in the store when I bought the 82s. But the room in the store might be bigger than your room so in your room they may not sound that much better. If it was me I’d try and stay in the in the new reference line to match the speakers colors and design of your 64ii. The 83 and 63s are deeper speaker design than the 82 or 7s.
  13. One quote from the review when comparing them to the old rf-7 "Overall, the new RF-7 is not only a significant evolution of its predecessor - it is also one of the best offers in its price range"
  14. Here is a small review of the rf-7ii only pro one I have found it’s a germen sight so might have to go to goggle to get it to translate if the short cut isn’t in English. http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2010/klipsch_rf7_2.shtml&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2011/klipsch_reference_5_1.shtml%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2PRFA_enUS406%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhh4KEYpP8H5C56qOo92RTvbqw98FA
  15. Very nice congrats on some great speakers!! I to would recommend moving the rack close to the tv and moving the 7s to the side walls. That will give a bigger stage and also give better bass overall from them to your lp (cause you don’t use a sub) can’t hurt to try it.
  16. I didn’t like the new feet either (well the back ones) tell I got them the old ones are plastic and cheap the new ones seem to be like a steel and give a more solid feel I also now like the look better but I don’t think to many people liked them coming from the old look. It’s crazy that they just send people the new ones a lot of people have said that has happened to them I would not be happy either for many reasons. For you it works cause the color of the drivers match your 64ii the old rf-62 have a different color driver and grill design. But I don’t know how they just mindlessly send out a totally different model without even a phone call to make sure it would be ok. Because I guarantee you’re not the first one who has called that same company about this and yet they still do it. Ps. Grats on your new speakers hope you like the way they sound atleast[]
  17. I know what the hell we want pics and reviews []
  18. That’s a huge debate most experts will tell you that tests say there isn’t anything that really changes. But a lot of people say they notice a change.
  19. The cornwalls lll are priced about $600 more a pair so I guess they should sound better. How much better I wouldn’t know.
  20. A lot of the best sound to me comes (call me crazy) in the credits I love some of the music credits. I normally listen to the movies at about -17 but usually turn it up to about -10 for the credits. Can’t really close your eyes during movies but in the credits you can close your eyes and really just listen to the sound. A great example of this would be the first pirates movie (all 3 are great for this).
  21. Thanks for the suggestions - i hadn't thought of those. Let me restate my goals & why I came to the choice originally stated: 1. I want bass to at least the lower 30s 2. I want as much midrange detail as possible 3. I want a simple solution, if possible (fewer boxes = better) 4. Size doesn't much matter (wife tolerates speakers well) 5. I want to minimize cost What I've had in the past: La Scalas (Good midrange but no bass extension) Cornwalls (Good bass extension but some loss of midrange detail) Heresys (OK midrange, but no bass extension) What I already own now: Heresys Difinitive Technology Supercube I self-powered subwoofer (flat to 13 Hz) Obviously, the current setup meets all desires above except No. 3. To finance CornScalas, I'd need to sell the current setup & toss in some cash. The benefits I'd expect from the CornScalas would be in the area of desire No. 2. How would Quartets, Fortes or KLF-20s fit into this plan? Alternately, would putting the Heresys up on stands provide additional clarity? The bass could be compensated for by the sub... Supercube1 isn’t flat to 13 Hz. actually not even close it dips way off around 25 Hz. I run a sms-1 sub eq it has an onscreen set up and shows the true performance of subs. only way it would hit that # is if they had the stats at like +15/-15db. I love the sub works great with my other subs but I don’t know how def tec gets away with their stats on their subs. All their stats are crazy they rate the amp at like 1200 watts too []
  22. Nice what would you say they sound like compared to your old rf-7? I thought they sounded way different but I heard them in a store not at home although they were side by side so still a good comparison. To me they sounded bigger cleaner and harder to localize. (lol my one sentence review) I'd agree with your account - smoother bass and less shrill on the top end, but still retains the precise clarity and punch. Me likes What do you power yours with?
  23. Although there is always going to be a small difference even if you used the same 3 speakers because of placement, and as mentioned above about the difference in materiel being sent to the different channels. The way he has described what he is hearing it sounds like a lot more than what’s normal.
  24. Sorry if this part is obvious but have you put your ear up and can hear the horn working? And if you can explain what you hear with you ear up to it compared to the 83s
