  1. I work in the fuse "business". You would be surprised how many people call in pissed off when a fuse actually works as intended. "There's something wrong with your fuse! It keeps opening as soon as I turn power on." [:@]
  2. Hello SW-115, welcome to my Christmas list.
  3. I have a pair. Love them. Depends on how loud you like it, the bass response isn't great at lower volumes. My next addition will definitely be a subwoofer.
  4. What's your location? Saw someone on here earlier this morning that said they found some RF-83's for $450 in NJ. I know it isn't surround, but that's something I would jump at.
  5. Rage, You think it is worth it eh? Home sale is looking like it will go through. I will be sitting pretty in about 10 days if it does. Wife was very resistant to the idea yesterday. Thinks I should go with something more room appropriate until we move into a house where I can build a dedicated theater room. I don't necessarily disagree, but if I buy this one now for a good deal, I may not need to buy a new one for a long long time. I'll keep chipping away. I'll keep everyone updated. Even if I don't get this one, I'm sure I'll find something in the $200-$300 range. After hearing me talk about $600 for so long, that would sound great, right?
  6. I am now back to the SVS. Guy got back to me. He'll take $525. I'll see if he will go any lower, especially because my wife is not very happy about that price tag.
  7. I just caught the last few posts here. Has me laughing out loud at work. People think I'm crazy. Who knows, maple I am...
  8. Bull, Ha, I would have to have the money in my pocket to have it burning through! Just want to make sure I consider all my options and come into it with an open mind. I am rather unbiased at this point, having never owned a sub. Want to do my homework before I make the plunge. But sounds like the def tech is a no go. My brother-in-law has a def tech 5.1 and really likes it, that is what made me consider the super cube.
  9. How about Def Tech Super Cube III? Finding it in the same ballpark ($400-$475). Anyone heard / felt one of these?
  10. Sent an email and another text, still no response...
  11. Gnatnoop, Taking your advice, I told the $100 sub guy that if he still had it in a couple weeks I would take it. So he let me know that he had the two speakers and sub relisted @ $100. Which the pictures look junky, and they are old and dusty, but still a good deal. So I told him if they were still up in a couple weeks I would shoot him a text. He responds that if they don't sell he is going to throw them away! Of course my response to this is that I can scrape up a little cash now, so better to get something out of them than nothing. Here is his text back, and I quote "Ya I want it gone but I know what its worth and what im asking is good price other option noone gets told just in trash" I want to respond back "Here's your sign..."
  12. Guy with the SVS won't respond, so I guess that isn't an option. Guy with PS 1200 will let it go for $200, that is the front runner right now. Found a PDR-10 for an unknown price, but I bet I could get it for $75. Still checking CL and audiogon every day. I set a text to the guy with the Velodyne sub, still waiting for a response there. Let's just hope this house sale goes through, then I can buy any of them...or all of them!
  13. Anyone have experience with SVS? Would be overkill for my current arrangement, but wouldn't have to worry about upgrading. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/2664593020.html
  14. Emailed the craigslist add on the $100 sub 5 minutes after I saw it. Guess someone beat me to the punch, guy deleted his ad already. Someone jumped before I could. I still think $200 is a decent price, but I can't find many comparisons. None on Ebay, none @ audiogon...any ideas of other websites I can check to start getting a good idea of prices? Still not set on this sub so if you guys know where a good sub could be found for a good price let me know. If I sell my house I have a $400-$600 budget for a new sub. If I don't sell it, well I can keep looking for a $100-$200 steal....
  15. Derrick, I currently have a Pioneer VSX-520-K. Sub would be LFE, cross over @ 100Hz. I do like the 82s, they are my first set of nice home speakers, and when I move from our current rental to a long term solution I plan to keep them as surrounds and upgrade the fronts to ??? Islander, I don't particularly want them for music, I meant my comment above more as the music I listen to is junk(qualitywise), so I am not that worried about having a sub that is "musical". Right now I just want something to give me a nice rumble without having to crank up my volume. The 82s may rate down to 32Hz, but unless you have them up high they don't produce much...
  16. I am looking to expand my 2.0 to a 2.1. Have 2 RF-82s and found a PS 1200 on craigslist for $200. Have heard a lot of people like them, some don't. Heard this sub specifically is not very musical, which is okay, right now the only music comes from iTunes or the radio...any thoughts? Below is my setup. Green stars are my 82s. spray paint area is my kitchen which is open to the living room. Living room is 18ft x 10ft x 8ft... Just found another for $100. May go ahead and pull the trigger...
  17. Ski, Can you expound on the voltage gain of 32dB vs 29dB? Also on controlling this feature... What does a gain feature do exactly? My reciever has ± 3dB for all my speakers. What actually happens when you move it up or down. Are you driving more current? I think this comes back to me knowing enough to be dangerous...but I am looking for a more precise and technical explanation. I am also researching this as we speak...type. Google is a wonderful tool. http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sloa105a/sloa105a.pdf
  18. Love it. Sent it to the wife.
  19. Mmmmmm. Nothing like power factor talk to get a nerd all hot and bothered.
  20. So...yeah...it's been a long day... Thank you Stephen and Don for clarifying the impedance sources and factors to take into consideration. Good information. Not an electrical engineer, but I work in the field. Talk about a confusing subject... Also thank you Ski, Bill and Alt for the info on amp selection. Unfortunately I am not in a position to expand any of my HT, but in the future I will keep the Parasound, Acurus, and Emotiva at the top of my craigslist and ebay searches...
  21. First I will start with what I believe to be true about impedance...most of which will not be accurate so I am inviting correction... Impedance is essentially resistence on an AC circuit. DC circuits by their very nature have a steady DC voltage, and therefore a steady resistance. Impedance however will tend to vary based on the sinusoidal nature of AC power. After reading a few other posts, it seemed that the impedance dips were caused by exertions in frequency bands covered by multiple drivers. I suppose this is the capacitive impedance required to recharge capacitors to motivate multiple drivers at the same time, especially at peaks in movies/music. So while I think I have an answer to my first question, I am just looking for a bit of clarification or backing of my answers. Second question is how do you tell what type of impedance dips your speakers are having / will have? I ask this because the current draw is inverse to the impedance. So impedance dip = amperage spike. Amperage spike = possible clipping from the receiver... Last question is choosing an amp. I plan on getting an amp in about 6 months. I want to get a nice amp that will have plenty of headroom for my current speakers(RF82's), but will also be a good amp for future upgrades(which is not planned for multiple years...). Any thoughts? At a continuous rating of 150 RMS @ 8ohms, I would think an Emotiva(XPA-2) would be a good amp at a good price...
  22. HAHA. Took me about 10 minutes to figure out "No eye deer"... once I got that it made a lot more sense!
  23. So what is the difference between a standard and pro amp? For instance you mentioned the Adcom 555? Is it the wpc rating?
