Chuckears survives the May 4 tornadoes...

Glad you made out as well as you did. I live between Dallas and Ft. Worth and don't like this time of year because of the weather. I keep a flashlight, radio, bicycle helmet (don't laugh), and blankets handy, and can bail into an interior bathtub very quickly. It's not a good feeling when the sky is green and the sirens are going off. Take care... -
Congrats on the concert, I haven't been to one in years but have some good memories. The first ever was Chicago back in the late '70's, and I THINK I saw either Tower of Power or Blood Sweat and Tears! Luckily, I remember more now, anyway, I've always loved bands with horn sections (imagine that). Some others I DO remember were AWB with War, Talking Heads (twice, the Stop Making Sense tour was awesome), Tom Tom Club, Tom Scott, Pretenders, geez, I gotta call some friends on the others. I used to keep all the stubs, but lost them during a move. The one that stands out was some years ago for a New Years Eve party at the Fairmont hotel in downtown Dallas. The Fabulous Thunderbirds totally ripped up that ballroom. I have NEVER heard a live band generate more energy than the T-Birds, the place was going completely nuts. Ok, enough babbling...

Need help finding this tubing stuff
space_cowboy replied to space_cowboy's topic in General Klipsch Info
Hi Dean, just need to tidy up some wires and cables. I wasn't aware it was so common. -
I get their catalogs quite frequently and may order some things. Anyone have experience with their recordings? Not that my very modest equipment would reveal anything anyway, LOL. Just curious, thanks.

Need help finding this tubing stuff

Well, on the Parts Express home page in the upper left corner, you can search by their product number and see a picture of it. Sorry, thought more people were familiar with browsing web pages........ -
Look at part # 080-527 at www.partsexpress.com , I can't find the 1" size locally although I've only been to 2 Home Depots so far. Am going to check out a Fry's Electronics and maybe a Rat Shack. Sounds trivial, but the shipping and under minimum purchase surcharge is more that the product! I live between Dallas and Ft. Worth if anyone knows a source. Thanks

This web site says my KLF-20's may be the "worlds ultimate rock-n-roll speaker". Well, I just proved that a while ago and I'm sure some neighbors may or may not agree.........hehe. Anyway,,,,,,,,,,rock on,,,,,,, Space out..........

I'm getting a new TV delivered tomorrow, Hitachi 51UWX20B, and after disconnecting my current setup, I forgot how big and heavy the C7 is. It used to be under my TV, so no worry. I know a lot of you have the C7 and wondered if the weight of it on top of a RPTV is a concern. The new TV has plenty of room for it, so that is not an issue. Any comments welcome. Thanks

How many of you use a bare-wire connection?
space_cowboy replied to Kain's topic in General Klipsch Info
All bananas on the receiver end because it looks clean, and it's a real pain to feed bare wire into the binding posts, plus with only one set of mains right now, it's a snap to disconnect from the AVR and plug into the mono blocks for 2-channel listening. Bare on the surrounds because they are mounted flush to the wall (spades would probably work there). More bananas on the mains and center because I like bananas, or was it Bananarama? Grunt Grunt -
Thanks for the responses... Colin - The amps are only about 6 months old, so maybe I just got a bad tube. Am contacting the distributor for advice. dbflash - Did you install the Svetlana tubes from the start, or as a maintenance replacement? Could you tell a difference between those and what was shipped with the ASL's? Thanks
-
I'm completely new to tubes and need advice. I have the ASL WAV-8 amps and think a tube has gone bad. The top of one is kinda "blacked out" as some light bulbs used to do when they blew. After the amp is on for about a minute a "howling" sound would come through the right speaker for about 1 second; I swapped the tubes, and the problem moved to the other channel, so I guess that's the problem. The only identifier I can find for the tube type is "6BM8". Are these common enough to be found in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area or reliable mail order? Thanks for any advice.

I also confess to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. On vinyl, the soundtrack albums to Mission:Impossible and Mannix by Lalo Schifrin. There, I feel better now...

Why are you even asking this question?

Wonder when this is supposed to happen? You really think that Tweeter will have a clearance? I just bought my RS3II's at Tweeter just before Christmas. The minute anyone hears of a clearance, please post it.

I did the EXACT same thing your asking about for years. In fact I still use a 20+ year old Cerwin Vega RSW-12B with smoked tempered glass top as a coffee table or end table although it is disconnected now. It is a passive sub, so managing all those wires was a pain, but with yours just get a length of shielded RG-? (can't remember if it is 6 or 8) coax and your good to go. I bought a 100' cable with ends at Home Depot for a minimal amount. Then just get some screw-on male RCA's and it's done. Let us know...

A couple immediately come to mind............ Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction: "He's deader than fried chicken" Robert Duvall in Apocalypse Now: "You smell that? Do you smell that?...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know, that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like - victory. Some day, this war's gonna end."

My AVR 210 is a couple of years old and does 2 channel at 50W and 5 channel at 40W. My KLF-20's are a bit more sensitive at 100dB, but let me tell ya, in 2 channel, there is no way in the world I can max out the HK without incurring hearing damage. I am also quite satisfied with the performance in 5 channel. My listening area is 23x13. If your dealer has a return policy, give the HK a try.

I live about 10 miles Southwest of the DFW airport and now know what those noises were at about 8:00 local time. Sounded like 4-6 sonic booms; I didn't see it live, but definitely heard it. So sad, my condolences go out to the families and loved ones....
