  1. 5.1.4 vs 7.1.2 makes no real difference.  Room size, shape, MLP ect. should dictate  a system configuration.  Surround and satellite speaker need spatial room to deliver their best effects.  It Makes no sense to have to many speakers in a small space.

  2. Do you have the RF 7 II's or I?  The RC 64 can work with any of the 7's with some EQ which is almost universal with many avr's. You could do a phantom center and not loose much without a center speaker and wait til you move to completer the HT.

  3. The enemy of good is sometimes, well?  It is best to keep bass management as simple as possible.  Woofers are not subwoofers and poodles are not German Shepherds. I quickly learned that a sub or two can beat most Towers, if done right. To get total coverage of the sound spectrum,  $$$$$ for most tower speakers.

It is not the best design for most systems and subs can be a bit cheaper the DYI route.

Using a sub helps keep the speaker drivers under control.  PKW said something about speaker drivers being  over pushed?

  4. Free speech also has it consequences.  This is a audio forum and other matters  should be on other social media!  The forum has places for social talk, recipes, music, pics, etc.

Eight watts is not much power , it’s a level of power that will leave many systems prone to clipping, especially at any appreciable distance. Certain music and special effects can  be enhanced to an exhilarating level of pleasure and intensity when  played  loud  . We may not want to listen at the higher levels for long , but sometimes shear unclipped power is the secret recipe for delivering  a  moving and memorable experience . All things being equal ,power is a good thing ,as is the high efficiency that our speakers deliver .

Low wattage amps are enough power for a lot of Klipsch users due the the high sensitivity of the speaker and size. It is like a sports car, just because it can most people won't be running their system that hard toward clipping.  With room gain of easy 10 db, there is some free headroom.

This has not been my experience with amplifiers that can switch between triode and ultralinear or pentode.

    Perhaps you mean gain?

Yes, the gain in switching produces more output from the amp and first perceptions are the the increases in volume/gain may be       laperceived as better but, longer listening ends with fatigue due to the Hi's im many cases.  Ultralinear delivers more power and promises no more. Tubes that are meant for pentode or beam triode will  work well in most systems.  All the ultralinear amp that I read and know about have more power in ultrilinear mode. The power tube is used entirely different than in tirode mode. The KT 88 pair can produce nearly 100 watts even pushing low ohm speakers..
