  1. Garth, Thanks for your response. We are no longer hunters since we sold our share in the hunting club on the Mississippi river about 6 years ago. I will look into the devices you mentioned as I am not familiar with them. rigma
  2. Mas, I have temporarily tried turning the room as you suggested several times. It did help the imagining but it killed my bass response. I think it was due to all the open areas behind the listing position, 2 sets of stairs and bar area etc. It would also be a major headache to do on a permanent basics because of inaccessible under floor wiring... satellite, antenna, speaker, power etc. I would much rather keep the orientation as is and use treatments if that will not be too much of a negative. rigma
  3. Below is a link to my room layout. http://www.jubilation.ws/Room.html I have 10 of these on order. https://www.readyacoustics.com/index.php?go=products.configure-chameleon-bass-traps and will be building some QRD RPG style diffusers and willing to buy some RPG Skyline diffusers. I now have the RplusD software working and have identified some early reflections and there location (thanks miketn). The early reflections were off the angled ceiling just above and behind the listing position and at about 4.5 ms and only about 6 db down. I would appreciate input from others on possible improvements I could make to the room and location for the traps and diffusers. rigma
  4. Djk I sent you a PM, about a month ago[*-)] rigma
  5. It is not that I think anything is wrong with my setup its is just that I have never heard this "elusive realism" out of any system. Even the Jubilees with the Crown XTi. or any other for that matter. I probably am searching for something that currently is not obtainable, but that is how we progress to the next level. rigma
  6. There is a lot of high frequency energy in the upper registers of hhard cymball strikes. One of the things I noted about your configuration was the highs were starting to roll off around ~8kHz-ish. Honestly, I don't hear any roll off now like I did with the active and SS. That is much of what I like better about my current setup. Of course I am 55 so who knows. My measurements with my RTA don't show that either.I'm not sure if it's a function of the passives or the amps (possibly both), but I would look to see if you couldn't make any modifications to achieve a more extended high frequency response. The thing you want to be looking for is a capacitance in parallel with the circuit (which might actually be in the tubes you're using...) I have also found that sometimes slightly rolled off highs can be perceived as a smoother midrange, which is something I've played with in the studio. I've never actually played with it in a home setting, but I would imagine the effect would be the same. I bring this up because I think, for you, there's going to be a tradeoff involved (smooth mids versus cymbal impact).
  7. Yikes, don't bridge amps if you're looking for clarity I actually tried it both ways and yes you are correct. As for the active crossovers....were you able to saturate their inputs? I set the inputs so all lights would flash on the peaks. The pro gear is going to require a larger voltage than most home gear operates on, so your preamp would likely need to be cranked up all the way in order to get "a lot of blinky lights" on the input panels. After that, you'll need to attenuate the output way down yes I did that in the digital domain in the Crown but that way not have been the way it should have been don after reading what Shawn and others have written. since your amplifiers probably don't need large voltages to reach their max output either. Right, they are actually sensitive. In other words, I think you would benefit greatly from an active crossover that was designed to operate at the voltages and impedances of home audio equipment. I think the DEQX might fit into this category. It is just a lot to spend only to find out doesn't suite me. Just looking to hear from ones that have used the DEQX with similar equipment.
  8. Thanks Chris and Mark. The problem is that I want BOTH micro details and thwack and tone and timber![:@] I have tried active Crown IQ-USM 810 ($3K processor) and 300 watts of Crown D150A (strapped in Mono) on the HF but think the passive and 300B sounds more real. I have never heard a system that I felt accurately reproduced the attack of a live snare or hard cymbal strike but that hasn't stopped me from trying. I am wondering if a TAD HF driver with Beryllium diaphragm might get me closer. The thinking is that it may allow the lighter mass of the diaphragm to accelerate and decelerate faster thereby increasing the attack..(decreasing acceleration time)...Did that make sense? Maybe the recording microphone and associated equipment can't spike this quickly either[*-)] rigma
  9. Tony and others, Can you tell us more about your DEQX experience. I like what I have read about the unit and am considering trying one, but so far have not been pleased with active units in my signal chain. Do you feel it would any negative or positive effects on the micro detail I now have with my SET/Jubilee system. I mostly listen to Jazz and Blues LP's. On another note my wife and I went to the "Blue Note Jazz Club" in NYC Sunday night to hear Bill Frisell, Ron Carter & Paul Motian. In comparing what we we hearing live siting directly in front of the stage about 20' back to what we hear at home with our system. What we agreed on in the comparison was that Ron Carter's bass(awesome player) and Bill Frisell guitar were very close to what we achieve at home. The part that is lacking with our system was the drums of Paul Motian, especially the impact of hard cymball strikes. I would like to get that attack and decay to sound more live in our room! Even though we think our system is the best we have ever had, or heard, I feel this is an area that could be improved. Maybe it is a room issue, better drivers or electronics etc. or I wonder even if it is recording related, which I suspect is the most likely? Opinions would be appreciated. rigma
  10. Dean, You just hit the nail square on the head!!!!! rigma
  11. Perhaps others will correct me if I'm wrong BUT, if you stay ON AXIS then I'd surmise you'd get 90% of what we're getting. I think it's when you go off axis that the 402 starts to flex its muscle. Roy? Dean? Doc? Mom?? 90% may be too high in my opinion. I'm sorry but to me the 510 is not in the same league as the 402. rigma
  12. I usually stay completely out of those types of conversations until some outside person that has little or no up close and personal experience with this product starts the baiting and BS ( I refrain from naming names but most are rearing up in here once again). Please do.
  13. Oh yea what amp is that?? I think this is the one from one of your post: "No the builder just thinks YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE HELL YOUR TALKING ABOUT and I owe you absolutely no explaination. You have never been and absolutely will never be a customer of mine. I owe you nothing. You know its hard to believe just how thick headed you are..............I have never cared for you in the 5 years we have both posted on this forum and have never been shy in saying so. I could careless what you think you know. You have never even heard a pair of my amps but you post more frequently about what they are or are not then folks that have owned them for over 3 years. The VRD's have things in common with just about every top rated vintage power amp made in the 60's and yes Dynaco would be one of them. But it would be the last I would compare or say the amp was fashioned after since the original Dynaco sounded like a piece of crap in 100% original form. Heck your pair of Dynaco are just a small percentage better then the original. THE VRD IS NOT A MODIFIED DYNACO it would be closer to a modified EICO HF-50 or HF-60 in fact. Hmmmmmm guess who made the iron for some of those amps back in the day. Get a clue dude." Craig AGAIN I HAVE NEVER STATED ANYTHING AS TO WHAT JUBS SOUND LIKE..... All I have ever stated is the improvement reports are hugely overstated. And what do base that on? Face it guys/gals this hobby really lends itself to self delusion and we are all guilty of it. You can all spout that the JUBs are in the same room you had your Khorn's in all you want but by the time you move one set of beast man speakers out of the way and slide in another your audio memory is mush and your visual memory, bucks and efforts spent take over So is that why VRD's are so great??.........this is basic human nature stuff. This is my opinion and I have every right too it. I have never said they were NO IMPROVEMENTS. Just that the improvement reports are HUGELY overstated. OK I see the difference now. I have never said they were BAD in anyway. If I have show me where???? I want a heads up comparison where I and other individuals (without a vested interest) OK so you are now unbiased? can walk from one identical room to another and HEAR a real comparison. But it sounds like the JUB folks are scared Nope, It will take allot more than that to scare me! Craig
  14. Cause if Craig heard them he could not say the claims about how good ther are are exaggerated anymore. Then he would feel...well..Like he should have withheld comments until he actually heard them at the very least! Wait I think I remember him saying something like that about some amp[:$] rigma
  15. OK for what it is worth, here is my opinion. First let me say I have been listening to Klipschorns since age 14 (now 55), or 41 yrs. My dad had them, still does, then I built a set of Speaker Labs (sorry) in 1971 and bought my Klipschorns new if 1988, which I still have. I also have all of the Heritage series. The Klipschorns are wonderful sounding speakers which I have thoroughly enjoyed but the Jubilee is better IMO. Here is how I would describe the Jubilee's I built with the 402 HF. The Jubilee's bass is 1-1/2 to 2 steps better than the Khorn and the mid and highs of the 402's are 3 steps better. Just as a comparison of what I consider a step I would say that the Khorn bass is 1 to 1-1/2 steps better than the LaScala. The Jubilees are in the same room, same location, using the same equipment as where I had the Khorns and also LaScalas. The Jub's are just that much better. Believe me if they weren't I would move the Khorns back. If anyone buys Jubilees I highly recommend the 402 HF, it is that good. I have heard the 510 HF but in my opinion it is not in the same league as the 402. Oh, I also recommending buying vs. building. They are a bargain at the price and a whole lot less headaches. Hindsight is 20/20. rigma
  16. I thank this one is purdy.[+o(] rigma
  17. Wow Deano, I just saw this. Thanks for the compliment and glad you liked them so much. They do mate very well with the Jubilees but they also sound great on my Khorns but I can't go back the them after the Jub's. rigma
  18. Gary, I always thought you were a stand up guy but your post, since edited, agreeing that the number of tickets should stay as first stated, then blaming the ones who did not agree with changing the number of tickets as being the reason for the raffles demise confuses me. rigma Posted By: garymd in Garage Sale Subject: Re: RAFFLE FOR A PAIR OF McIntosh MC60's -- $38.50/Ticket __________________________________ As I was driving into work this morning, I thought about the last post I saw last night which was someone suggesting additional tix being sold. My thoughts were the same as Bryan's. Either stick to the original number to keep the odds the same as the initial rules stated or have a 2nd drawing for the excess funds. Actually, I would think the original number would be the best idea. The fewer rule changes, the better IMO. I better go back and read the rest of the posts. I assume you liked the idea of having the drawing this coming weekend?
  19. Congrats Bill! I know you will love them. I must agree that the Jubilee is the best sounding speaker I have ever heard. Like you I have owned all the heritage line and still have all but the Belle, which I still regret selling. Anybody got any Belle's for sale? ps. Great looking room. rigma
  20. 500 mi round trip to pick these up yesterday. Very nice! and they sound great. Another pleasant forum deal. etch (Chad) was great guy to deal with! Thanks. rigma
