  1. Doug & Boa Well it really looked cool and the funny thing is my Dad has one of the SX models can't remember which one. He has it hooked to some speakers that I can't remember either although I do remember it sounded pretty good and pulled stations in well. In fact my younger brother blew more than one set of speakers with it in his teenage years ( needless to say my Dad was pissed LOL !! ). so I went ahead and bought one off ebay today in perfect condition wood case and all. I've been looking at Marantz but they go for way more than I'm willing to spend for SS and most have something wrong with them either lights or channels out. I'm hoping that BOA is wrong and just going by the Marantz Hype on this one. Craig
  2. How does this amp Linkage stack up as Solid state goes ?? descent sound ?? sure looks nice. Does it compare with the 70s marantz stuff ?? ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table JVC JL-F50 Turn Table Sony CDP-CA7ES CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I W/Layne Audio Woofers KSW-15 Subs>c>
  3. Thanks everyone it was a good catch but still doesn't top my dads 48" 30LBs he caught 10 years ago dndphishin My neck and back would never survive a catch like that Craig
  4. The HF-81 can be a sweet sounding amp. I have now heard one in good working order (Tim's). The thing to watch out for or be aware of is that they are all kits and how its going to sound greatly depends on the skill of the original builder. Its basically a scrap shoot that you almost can't loose. If it doesn't work well and you don't feel up to fixing it there easy to get rid of and get your money back. 5. Okay , I didn't mention the one that got away because it didn't !! It weight in at 22 lb and was 42" long. I caught it get this on a Bobber with a large sucker minnow with dual treble hooks fished in 4' of water. This technic always works for large pike in the spring up in Canada. You have to have allot of nerve though ! You let the pike swim off with the bobber for what seems like a hour and let it swallow the large minnow LOL !!!! Then when you figure he has it down set the Hook and be ready for the battle of your life !!!!!!! I go to northern Ontario every spring and have since I was 12 years old. There's nothing like the wild country. We just drive in with my Z71 to a remote lake and go Walleye and Pike fishing, exploring and wild life watching. This year we seen 4 Bear , 6 Moose , Porcupines , Beaver , Skunks , Foxes , 1 Linx and numerous other creatures. everyone should see that country sometime in there life. Craig

  7. esker If you want some verbal help shoot me a email with your Phone Number and the best time to call and I can get you a complete parts list to bring that Scott up to top notch condition. I'm suprised that you have any hum. I've bought 6 of them now and havn't had to replace any Can Caps yet(which is what usually causes hum). I would refrain from using the amp till its been updated. craigostby@home.com ShapeShifter Getting together sounds like a great time and from the looks of your system's. I should just load my amps up and come to you. I would love to hear your systems and my Amps on your speakers. Looks to me like you have Cornwalls, Bells and Heresy's and a number of Subs. Shoot me a email with your phone number and we can get together. Craig
  8. Wow !!! Boy I go on vacation and all my old friends have returned. Kelly and Mark glad to see you back and getting along. But I just got back from Vacation and drove 600 miles today and needless to say I'm beat so I will reply with help on the Scott's when I'm a little clearer in the mind. Craig
  9. Marty, Shoot me a email with your phone number and we can go over all that is needed. I will be gone out of town till the 1st of June. I have a cell phone with free long distance so the call is no big deal. If you don't like the sound of the amp then I can garrantee something is wrong with it. If I was you I would quit using it till we get it straightened out. Its really not all that expensive to overhaul these. The hard parts usually are less then a $100 and then tubes. So shoot me your number with the best time to call and I will get back with you when I return. craigostby@comcast.net Craig
  10. Well I myself would use the tooth pick trick. Cheap, Easy and I've used a similar aproach on door jams and cabinets and furniture for years. Although I always just use a razor knife on a spare block of wood and a little wood glue for good measure. Oh and let the glue dry before you install the backs or the screws. If you don't you might have problems next time you want inside. ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table JVC JL-F50 Turn Table Sony CDP-CA7ES CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I W/Layne Audio Woofers KSW-15 Subs>c>
  11. Edster I was wondering what speakers you have been using with the 299. I would love to hear it on all of your choice Klipsch speakers. Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 05-22-2002 at 03:41 PM
  12. Marty, Oh right around 20 WPC RMS. If you want to learn more about your amp here a Link to a great sight devoted to HH Scott products. Linkage Has your amp been brought up to snuff yet ?? Where did you get it? These amps have various parts in them that should be updated before there used on a day to day basis. If your handy I could help you out on what is needed. If not I can fix it up for you and wouldn't charge you much. I just did one for Edster00 from this forum. Let me know if I can help you further. 13. Marty, I have a 222C and use Amperex Bugle Boys in it for power tubes. I use amperex 6U8's as phase splitters and Telefunken 12AX7 for phono and driver stages and a phillips NOS 5AR4. These Scott amps have a wonderfull sound to them. The phono section are hard to beat. If you want current production tubes for the power section. I've heard good things about the Sovtek 7189/EL84M's. I've also used JJ telsa EL84's but they burn out fast because the 222C over drives them. 14. Clipped and Shorn Man I thought you fell off the earth. Between MDeneen being so busy and you disapeering and MH hitting the road this place has been real boring. Glad to see you back !!! On the horn placement issue. I was at a Chicago Horn Club meeting a week ago and Afredo has a Altec bass and horn setup and at the end of the day we started messing with the horn placement in his acoustically challenged room and ended up with the horns Vertical and the difference in detail and stereo separation was amazing. I'm thinking about building some new enclosures for my heresy's and I think I'll make the front removeable and replaceable because vertical mount will have to be at least tried to see what it sound like. I've heard of people saying heresy's sound better on there side. I guess I should try that also. 15. The CD Player could make all the difference. I was using a Sony CDP-315 and found it harsh and destrorted with the volume up. While my newer DVD player was smoother and much more tolerable. I just score a CDP-CA7ES 5 disc changer off ebay and it has a much smoother and detail presentation then both my other players. See if you can borrow a different player to try on your system. 16. Well I can't say what tubes will do you better. But if it was me I would get the stock configuration for your first set and then find vintage tubes as they become available and roll tubes like crazy. I have almost 100 tubes for my amps mostly Amperexs, Mullard and Telefunkens. I have found the Telefunkens to produce the best in a 299 amp. Tube rolling is real fun. Let us know how the Elle works out if that's what you get. I wouldn't mind buying one myself maybe later this year. Good Luck Craig

  18. Ed, There drop in replacement no mods required. You just unsolder the wires from the originals and I used snap on connector incase I didn't like the new ones so I didn't resolder the wires on the new woofers. They line up to the original holes and even look original. They really tighten up the bass and might go slightly lower but not much. There $79 each. 20. I finally got around to installing my new woofers from layne audio in my Heresy's. They really made a difference the Bass is now tighter and it seemed to tame the speakers some. Money well spent! They also sent me speaker plans to build new boxes to install my Heresy components into a Ported Box. They say that this will net me bass down to 35hz if I decide to do it. I may build these next winter and see what they sound like. shouldn't cost more then about 125.00 for the parts and I'm a carpenter so the boxes should be easy to build. This way I can store the Heresy boxes and be able to reverse the mod at anytime. I really don't want to change anything with my almost perfect set cosmetically speaking. Just thought I would share my results and thoughts Craig ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
  21. When it comes to Amp choices I really think it all depends on what type of music you listen to and what speakers your going to use. Also what volume are you comfortable with makes the decisions narrow down. I myself spent most of my misguided youth at Rock concerts right up front I also worked at a prominent Detroit Rock and Roll club for a year and then at another in a northern Michigan resort town for three years. So I like my music loud and with very little distortion. After going to the Chicago Horn club meeting and listening to a 2 watt 45 tube based amp I know I can never go that route my ears are damaged to much for that LOL !!! Besides Rock and Roll just sounds better loud. My Heresy's sound awesome on all 3 of my Scott Amps right now its a toss up between my 299A 7189 based amp and my just refurbished LK-72 that uses 7591's. These are both Push Pull amps the 299 puts out about 24 WPC and plays crystal clear at about 103 to 104 db without noticeable distortion. The LK-72 puts out about 35 WPC and has some real mid range forward sound that I'm going to have to listen to for a few day's and see where it takes me but I think its going to play up to near 108db or so clear. I noticed you have Heresy's I also replaced my Woofers with the Layne Audio upgrade woofers and they really help out the Bass punch although subwoofer still required to get down low. I really like them !! Well good luck in your search Craig ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
  22. Well my absolute favorite Album/song to listen to when someone new stops by to hear my Tubes and Heresy's is Elton John, Honky Chateau especially "Honky Cat". When the horns kick in this song really shows what Klipsch speaker excell at. Its nothing short of amazing !!!! Oh its was released in 1972. 23. Things have slowed down on this forum since spring sprung. Its no big deal I've been on many Forums and MIRC for the last 10 years. This is the norm. Winter is when everyone has nothing better to do then work on there indoor projects and spend time on the PC. Besides there really hasn't been many question's asked in here lately there for no answers given !!! All is well !! 25. Deang, Tell you the truth after the meeting and seeing what all those guys are using I already have high dollar connectors LOL !!!! Let me see if I can scrape up the cash and give me a day or two to think about it. I was going to have my wife by the stuff as a birthday present (which is today) But found out that she bought me a Sony CA7ES CD player off ebay already so now I would have to scrap up the cash myself which is on the tight side these days. If someone wants them sell them but I'll see what gives with the money this weekend Sorry if I put you out at all.
