  1. Thanks for the replies. I am definitely not in the $1000 DVD category but I will definitely look into the other suggestions. Thanks again. Dan
  2. Is the equipment all new? Is there any sound at all coming from center? Is the connection to the center speaker solid?
  3. JM, That is such a killer system. I am guessing with KHorns and dual Ultras no there is no shortage of long sound waves. Dan
  4. Ok I am thinking of upgrading DVD for a couple of reasons. Number one, I have never gotten the DTS to work on my JVC. Number two, I would like to get a player that supports all the different formats like SACD and DVDaudio and MP3 etc. Any suggestions for a guy on a budget?
  5. This may not be a great analogy but it seems to me that the receiver vs. separates argument is similar to the 16 guage vs.8 guage wire argument. I mean no disrespect to the various opinions here but can it really sound THAT much better to warrant having 2 boxes instead of one? Maybe its just my ignorance since I have never A/B'd the two side by side. Another thing that I find a little curious. We talk about build quality all the time but what does that really mean? Is that the way the receiver feels when you touch it? I probably actually physically put a hand on my HK less than once per month. I really dont care what it feels like as long as it performs as expected and has the features I care about. Just some thoughts. Dan
  6. I am starting to think that the F1800 (FSR-18) or whatever its called could be a fantastic bargain used. I think I will start looking since I would like to eventually downsize my JBL bass bin And increase performance at the same time. Dan
  7. Toxic, I dont go to the movies much but I went to see Reloaded. I was a little disappointed in the movie and horrified by the sound in our local theater. It is a pretty new cineplex too...I guess the average movie-goer just doesnt get it.My HT is literally light years ahead of that place and I think of mine as sort of "mid-level" compared to some of the members in here. Georgie...its nice to now that we can speak to a lady now and then in here...welcome! Dan
  8. How does this thing compare to the HGS series?
  9. Ok you guys have convinced me. I have had the HT up and running for 1 1/2 years and have never done any calibrating so I just finished ordering the Sound and Vision disc. Now I have to go get a Rat meter.
  10. Ears, There is a Earthquake Supernova on Ebay starting at $1125. The numbers that are cited look pretty impressive. What is your opinion of this box? Thanks in advance. Dan
  11. Dillon, Any news? We are on the edge of our seats. Tell me its unfrigginbelievable...please
  12. Darth I have no experience with it but probably followed some of the same links that you did and I find the idea fascinating. Not only from a performance perspective but the obvious WAF advantage. If I pursued this avenue, I would have to put it in the cellar. I am not convinced I can bring myself to cutting a hole in my floor. At that point not only would I have a hole with a grate over it, but I would essentially be committed to that exact HT setup.
  13. Mike, Are you selling for increased performance or changing form factor? Is the PB2 a superior performer?
  14. Oops...sorry about that. I just saw the address in one of the above posts.
  15. Where do you go to look at/buy a tumult? Is it only sold as a driver that you must build a cabinet for?
  16. Mike, I assume that the PB2 is going to be, in your opinion, a significantly better performer.? I am sort of tempted, but I also think I like the shorter form factor of the box vs. the upright tube. So is the PB2 a better performer? Dan
  17. KhornKerry, Sweet setup! Not really any need for a sub there. Dan
  18. dndphishin, I agree with just about everything you said in your two well-constructed posts. Our JBL boxes dont quite dig as deep as some of the equipment that is discussed here but they hit pretty hard >30. I am a little embarrassed to admit it but I have never hooked up any equalizer nor have I calibrated the system. It Still sounds great. I keep toying with the idea of replacing it with something that is physically smaller And goes deeper but for <$350 its hard to part with. Just some thoughts. Dan
  19. Thanks Kenratboy. Is it possible that the muddiness is from the JBL and not the amp? It seems like either shortcoming might be alleviated by cutting out the <30hz stuff. The next question that comes to mind is do you notice that the low stuff in movies is weaker with the highpass filter installed? I know the JBL's dont produce a lot of sound down there but if you filter it completely does it sound like something is missing? Thanks, Dan
  20. I am very happy with my JBL bass bin but like many of us, I always have a nagging feeling that I want more. I know that some manufactures give you the option of blocking ports to change the tune of a sub. Is this adviseable on any ported sub? Can I damage my big JBL brute by trying to push it a little deeper? Any advice is appreciated. Dan
  21. Netnut, My guess is that since the RF-7 goes deeper with authority, you might want to crossover a little lower if you have the flexibility to do so. I am confident you will get many more comprehensive responses here soon. (That is quite some system)
  22. If I may, it seems that there can be quite a disparity between the MSRP of the Velodynes and the "street price". I think that brand new HGS-18's are going for <$2000 on ebay.
  23. Yeah Klipguy I was thinking the same thing. Anyway congrats on the Sun Sig. Hey Netnut, I am guessing that having two HGS-18's alleviates ANY concern about output. Dan
  24. Hey Guys, I havent been around for awhile but wanted any opinions on the Revel Ultima sub-15. There is one on ebay right now. How does it stack up against some of the more commonly talked about subs in here? Dan
  25. Ok, I know these are questions I should know the answers to but here goes. What is the chroma bug and what is screendoor effect?
