  1. I think what Reference meant by his comment is what Scrappy has currently is overkill for his current room. It will still be overkill for his next room, but not AS overkill? Having 4 PB13-Ultras would eventually pay for themselves if you are able get them to the right frequency to sonically castrate people out of your home theater room for a small fee.
  2. If you are near Michigan, I would be more than happy to let you listen to what I got.. There really isn't any reason to feel awkward and it would give you the best idea of what you want. If you are looking for the RC-64 II, there is a pretty cheap one on Audiogon right now for 499. If you go with the KL-650's, it would be best to have 3 of them and forget about the RC-64 II. I am now a little confused if you are talking about the RC-64 or the RC-64 II now though. If you like the RC-64 II, I think the best you can do for bookshelfs is the RB-75. They can be pretty hard to find though.
  3. If you don't like the RF-7 II's, there is always the jubilees on Audiogon >.>
  4. Not necessarily. Just have your receiver power them. I think it should be able to keep up for front heights. Were you not impressed enough by the THX Ultra2 setup to consider that route? When you demo the RF-7 II's, if you like them better, please don't let me know. It's the last thing I need right now. If you don't like them as much, I would love to know that though! I am also thinking a pair of P-37f's wouldn't set you back much further than a pair of RF-7 II's.
  5. That does sound like an amazing setup! If you are looking at Emotiva, they have some discontinued amps that would do you perfect and are fairly common and cheap. Be on the lookout for a UPA-7 or a UPA-5/UPA-2 combo to get you to 7 channels. They offer 125 watts per channel, so would be a pretty good middle ground between their x series amps and new upa series amps. UPA-7 Review
  6. I don't think you can do any better than an RC-64 center in the reference line. It's an excellent speaker and with it, you will never have to ask whoever is sitting next to you what someone said on the movie. Usually with Klipsch, you want your front 3 speakers to be timbre matched, which means once you get a center, you should get the matching left and rights, and from there, it's not as important, but still want to have surrounds that can keep up, so it all pretty much comes as a set. You may want to look at entire sets before looking at just building your system around the center.
  7. Very good plan! I would do as suggested earlier and get the Emotiva UMC-1/XPA-5 combo. It fits in your budget nicely and in that price range, I don't think the sound quality could be beat. You also get an upgrade card for their XMC-1 too you can either sell or use. The HDMI can be a little buggy on it, especially some of the DVRs, but mine works great with my blu-ray player and xbox and cd player.
  8. The Garage Sale thread on this forum is usually pretty good. If you get desperate, you can always post wanted ads too. Have you started looking at subs yet? Those are really fun lol.
  9. Found it... that was driving me crazy. Check This link. It wasn't ASD he called, sounds like he called Klipsch directly, so might want to check with them to see if they got anything for you.
  10. I thought someone on here was debating on a pair of RF-62 II's and when they called, they said they had a pair of RF-63's b stock for about the same price as well. Maybe it wasn't. I am looking for the thread to see where they came from, but not having much luck.
  11. Check to see if he has any b stock RF-63's, RF-83's or RF-7's while your on the phone with him. You might get lucky and get a much better speaker for about the same price. I know RF-63's b stock have gone for around 600 before from them. There is also a pair of Jubilees on Audiogon.com that you can get. I hear they are very nice.
  12. That's a great looking setup! How's the D2 sound?
  13. That looks great! I have been contemplating something like that when I get a dedicated HT room. I was looking at Nightsky Murals but they are probably quite expensive because you apparently have to fly some guy out to your house and he paints them, and I can't see the paint having the ability to keep it's vibrance over a long period of time.
  14. Has anyone done a/b comparisons of the Legend and Empire? Both seem like incredible values.
  15. The black is nice, yes. I prefer cherry better. But I think having a cherry speaker and painting it black would be a bad idea. It would destroy the value if you ever wanted to sell them again, and also wouldn't have the grain of the black veneer. I think they would be better off holding out for an actual black speaker. You guys are looking pretty good on the field so far. Tressel was a pretty good coach, and I think Urban Meyer should make an even better fit. (Sorry for completely derailing the topic).
  16. Sorry if I put words into your mouth. I looked for those threads, but couldn't seem to find. My memory can be extremely bad, but when it comes to useless information like a long lost childhood friend's 3rd favorite ice cream, I am usually spot on.. Thanks for the links. The camera work is impeccable! I think your reviews give very good information for people looking for either the 7s or 83s.
  17. That makes sense. It's never a bad thing to try and match the rest of your room I guess lol. My walls are maize (almost bright yellow) and my carpet dark blue (I am a huge University of Michigan football fan) so trying to match speakers to the room for me is kind of useless. From what I read on the forum, and Youthman had a very good post doing a back to back comparison on the RF-83's and RF-7's is the 83's tend to have more of a laid back sound where the RF-7's are more in your face. If memory serves me correctly, he also decided the 83's sounded better under weaker conditions (lower quality amp, receiver, etc...) than the RF-7. When he added higher quality components, the RF-7's started to sound better. I also believe the RF-7 is usually quite a bit cheaper if that helps sway your decision. I think the main reason I got the RF-83's was because I used to lust over them at an audio store I used to frequent, but were out of my price range until I found a good set on Audiogon. I also liked the RC-64 more than the RC-7, or maybe I just like the look of having more woofers. One last thing that comes to mind that I notice some people have trouble with is placement. If you are going to be somewhat limited on where you can place your speakers, the RF-83's seem to be a bit more room friendly on where you place them. I hope I didn't give you too much to consider, either way you should be very happy. I/We just don't want you having the "What If's" or upgradeitus.
  18. They say once you go black, you never go back. So far, it has been the opposite for me with speakers. I used to prefer black, but when I got my new speakers in cherry, they really grew on me. It made me physically ill knowing that you were planning on painting them. The RF-82 system would be good. I would suggest looking at other brands of subs though. I would still be on the lookout for a pair of used RF-83s, RF-63s, or RF-7s though. They would all get you noticeably better performance for around the same price if you go used. I would also advise you to look at other brands of subs as well. An Epik Empire would fit very nicely into your budget without breaking the bank. I have had some good luck going used and there are always so many great deals on used speakers to be had, it's hard for me to even consider buying new.
  19. People sometimes give me a hard time for spending so much on speakers etc... What they fail to realize is if I bought cheap products, I would not be as happy with the quality, they would not last me for the rest of my life, and I would have much worse upgradeitus than I do now. Speakers truly are an investment and even something that can be passed down. There have been quite a few posts here of people who have gotten their dad's/grandpa's old khorns and didn't even realize what they had. When they found out though, they sure were happy! Sure your placement isn't as good as it should be, but you got a great deal on some great speakers you will be enjoying for a very long time hopefully. While not quite in the same boat as you, I have all my stuff in my bedroom. I bought what I wanted with no consideration for space because eventually I do plan on having a dedicated HT room where I move next, which is hopefully soon.
  20. You also have to consider if you are going to upgrade to the XMC-1 or not. Having the BDP-95 and XMC-1 would likely be overkill as you can only use one set of DACs. You might want to wait to see how good the XMC-1 is before you take the plunge on either Oppo.
  21. There are so few used, that when they do come up, the price usually isn't much lower than retail. If you plan on using the analog outs or as Scrappy said, listening to 2 channel music, I would go with the BDP-95. Your UMC-1's 7.1 analog stage would work extremely well with the BDP-95 because it's basically a straight through path where no extra processing is done except for volume and you have one of the best DACs in the world in the Oppo, the sound quality would be top notch. The only thing to be aware of though is because the 7.1 analog stage on your UMC-1 is so pure, there is no extra processing being done, meaning you will lose all your room correction settings. This could be a good or bad thing depending on how your speakers interact with your room. You can set crossover points in the Oppo, but that is it. The best thing you could do is get the 95 and acoustically treat your room so there is less/no need for the room correction settings you'd miss out on.
  22. If you paid full price for everything, I would say it was overkill. For the deal you got though, I don't think the term overkill applies here My RF-83's sounded great hooked up to my 110x7 mid-range AVR, they sounded great, but it was no comparison to when I hooked them up to my XPA-5. There is a very slight hum from the speakers, but is only audible with my ear up to the tweeter. I also live in a fairly noisy house though. If you got a HT room that is dead quiet, it has the potential to be annoying. They do have a very good return policy though and fantastic customer service. I highly suggest giving Emotiva XPA-5 a shot, there is nothing to lose and they offer free shipping.
  23. That's a ridiculously good price for that sub! It's extremely comparable to the RT-12d, but the RT-12d goes for twice the price you paid easy.
  24. The Pirates of the Caribbean one looks even better imo! When I become the President, I am converting the Oval Office into a home theater room.
