  1. OMGAMZING! I love the ceiling and lighting in there, and the seats are bad *** too! I bet he has a full array of Bose Acoustimass.
  2. I have so much respect for Brent Smith. I think he's one of the best vocalists of our generation. He did a cover of Joey Cocker's 'With a Little Help from my Friends' as well that I think is just as good as his 'Simple Man' cover. I listen to it pretty much every morning on my way to work lol.
  3. Have you ever heard of EarlyRise? I was just randomly watching videos, and then watching related videos, and watching more related and I happened upon them. I am not really sure what kind of a band to classify them as, but I really like it! They have a ridiculously good cover of Narcissistic Cannibal. I am in love.
  4. When you get a bit of free time, try and bring those 83's out about a foot from the wall and toe them in so they are almost facing directly towards the main seating position. I had mine like yours for a while facing straight almost against the wall when I first got them and they sounded great, but when I took a few minutes moving them around, I was surprised at the improvement in imaging. Sometimes when listening to music in stereo, you will swear the voice is still coming out of the center speaker lol
  5. Are you looking to play music or movies? I got an RT-12d and it's fantastic for music. Movies, I think I would have been happier with an HGS15. Both should be in your price range and work out fantastic though.
  6. I have been listening to that CD pretty much nonstop since it came out. Thanks for the good advice though! He is definitely an amazing guitarist. In fact, it's who my avatar is lol
  7. That place is ridiculous! Flint definitely is not a nice place to be. If I moved to Florida though, I would have to sell my beloved snowmobiles and that just would not do.
  8. I figured some would be different from others, but I had no idea the difference was that big. I would love to check out the one in Florida with the Klipsch cinema speakers. I wonder which models they have.
  9. You have a much much better chance at being talked into something than talked out of anything.
  10. There is a UPA-5 for 425$ shipped on the classifieds section at avsforum.com. I don't remember what they used to retail for, but it seems like an extremely good deal. < br/> Also see an XPA-5 on the garage sale thread here for 700 if you are near Wisconsin. The XPA-5 is 200x5 and UPA-5 is 125x5. Both should be sufficient at powering RF-7's. The XPA-5 might give it a little more breathing room, not really sure how much of a difference you would hear though. As Scrappy said though, the RF-7's might seem a little harsh. It depends on how you hear, so you might do well to see if there is a place near you where you can demo something similar.
  11. I found a UPA-5. The price includes shipping, and I think it's a pretty good deal. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1422048/emotiva-upa-5 EDIT: Forgot you are in Canada, so not sure about the shipping included aprt.
  12. If you go reference, I would look at RF-63's, RF-83's, or RF-7's in no particular order. They are usually considered top of the reference line, and are usually cheap enough that they should fit nicely into your budget. I believe a forum member here got a pair of RF-63's for about 600 from acoustical sound design, which I thought was a steal, so if you are able to check around every day, there are fantastic prices out there. It's very possible you will end up spending less on this system than you did for your icon setup from Best Buy. Instead of getting a receiver, have you considered getting separates? A good processor and an amp can usually give much better sound quality than a AVR. If you do get an AVR, my only suggestion is to get one that has preouts so you can add an amp later. While not necessary, an amp is usually a very good way to really open up your speakers without breaking the bank. As always, keep an eye on the garage sale thread here, the classifieds on avsforum.com, Audiogon, and ebay if you are feeling brave. A brand that I like to watch out for is Emotiva, and a lot of people really like Outlaw too. Edit: I just noticed on Audiogon, it looks like there is an entire RF-63 setup with the matching center and surrounds for sale with 3 days left. The price is okay now, but I would keep an eye on it in case the seller decides to drop the price further.
  13. It is more than worth it if you are seeing a movie like TDKR. The sound quality is quite good in my opinion, and the volume seems to be much more variable. There is a bigger difference in volume between the quieter scenes and the louder ones. Just make sure you get there early enough to get a seat in the middle. I did notice if you sit towards the back corners, the imaging suffers a little bit, not to mention you would be pretty much sitting right under the surround speaker. And the screen is so big, your neck will be sore for a few days if you sit towards the front. If you have never gone before, I think you picked a damn good movie to see for the first time. The only thing I didn't like, and I am pretty sure it wasn't the speakers, but there were a few times where I was struggling to understand what Bane was saying. I don't think I would ever see anything that wasn't a high budget action flick there though. So far, seen Avatar and The Dark Knight there, and both times were incredible.
  14. I've been very happy with my Emotiva XPA-5 and they are on sale now till the 3rd. Would be a hard deal to beat if you are looking for new or used. But as SuBXeRo mentioned, there is a very slight hum coming out of my speakers. Higher quality RCA cables cleared it up for me enough that I can't hear it unless I have my ear up to the tweeter, but others have not been so lucky and had to return. They also got the XPR-5, but that might be overkill and I haven't heard if that one has the hum or not.
  15. I am more impressed that it was done on a website. I would think being able to tell the difference between two codecs wouldn't be nearly as pronounced on a low end set of computer speakers as anything else would be. Were you using computer speakers or somehow streaming it to your RF-83s? Another thing that makes it extremely hard for me to tell is the slight delay when switching tracks or settings. If it was immediate, any changes in sound quality would be much more easier to detect. Sometimes I don't think I can tell the difference when switching between DD and TrueHD. I hope that doesn't mean my hearing is going.
  16. List of audio mounts at OmniMount. Looks like if you look on the right side by each series, most series have a model rated for 60 lbs. Not sure if that is what you are looking for. I am digging what you did with the ceiling. Very nice looking! I can't compliment you enough on what you got so far.
  17. That will no doubt sound amazing! I am happy you have much more patience than myself as well. If it were me, I would have went out to buy a rug to throw on the floor, glue some bass absorbers to the wall, setup a table for the projector, and been watching movies and eating popcorn already. Once that happens, I'd never see it finished. Anthem and Oppo both make some tremendous products. If you by chance live near mid-michigan and need some help moving stuff or anything, let me know. Stairs can be scary when you have an arm full of expensive electronics. I made the mistake of trying to carry an RF-83 down some stairs. It was very nearly a disaster for the speaker and my back. Nevermind, looks like you have it all down there! Very cool. Those chairs look extremely inviting.
  18. The mains go for about the same, but matching the rest of the system can get pretty expensive unless you are going for the in-wall speakers. They should give a lot more performance though. I do see a pair of used KS-525s for 950$ on AVS which doesn't seem bad at all. I would love to hear that big cinema sound that they give. Are you going to drive them with an external amp, or you have a specific receiver you like? I have no idea what people usually use to drive these. I think you made a good choice on going with Klipsch over the Focal Chorus. I'm pretty envious and excited to see these pics. If Amy doesn't come through, feel free to email the pics to me, and I can host and give you the links to put them up.
  19. Any idea why you don't see that many reviews on it ? Not good ? Of all the reviews that I have seen, everybody was really happy about it and they all like the system a lot. I believe it's pretty rare because it is a pricey system and fits into a niche market. Also, imo, I don't thnk they look quite as nice as some of Klipsch's other products. On the other hand though, everyone that has heard it has been blown away. Scrappydue is a regular here and he demoed one in an audio shop and he was extremely impressed with how good it sounded, and his home system is no slouch either. If there is a lack of reviews on it, it is most definitely not because of poor sound quality.
  20. I would look at the Emotiva X-Ref 10 or X-Ref 12. They are on sale, and I know people have called them to get them to ship outside of the united states. Check out http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/speakers or give them a call. They have terrific customer support. I like the grills on. There have been some things to happen to me that were either my own fault, or just sheer dumb luck. Maybe dropping a school book and having it bounce/roll and smack right into where the woofer would have been on my sub. It's very scary because the woofers can be fairly delicate. They are pretty thin. Not sure what living in Holland will do with the price, but they are fairly cheap when bought from Klipsch if you do manage to screw one up.
  21. I took this out of the manual... Amazon.com is usually a good place to get those wall mounts or post a wanted ad in the garage sale thread. What I usually like doing though is just using a screw and anchor kit from any hardware store. I am not really sure where to find pins that would fit that speaker well. I just had to be careful when placing the speaker so the screw didn't scratch the back of the speaker. Just wanted to say though, I bet that setup is going to sound ridiculously good. I also heard those subwoofers are amazing! Welcome to the forum, and I am sure a lot of people around here would love to hear a review on what you think of these speakers. Also, pictures are very much enjoyed, especially when we get to see the whole process of building the room. Not a lot of people have those THX speakers, probably due to the poor WAF, but I have no doubt it will sound impressive.
  22. I've never owned a heritage speaker, although I hope to some day, so this may sound like pure idiocy. But I would imagine saving the money on a center speaker and putting it towards better mains would be a more than viable solution? Example would be a La Scala Left/Center/Right vs Klipschorn Left/Right. I'd imagine the Klipschorns would have no problem sharing the duties of a center channel
  23. In a bout of genius, I decided to check out the manual. Who would have thought there might be something useful in there. Talking about the 7.1 Analog input on the UMC-1... "This is designed to be a very short, ultra pure, analog-only signal path. DSP-based effects such as tone controls, bass management and DSP surround are bypassed in order to maintain the highest fidelity. This input is not available in Zone 2. The only tonal adjustment for this is LFE level." So looks like you are indeed correct. I am stuck with whatever the source material was done in. I am thinking this is a good thing though. My sub has it's own room correction and I can still set crossover frequencies in the Oppo, and I do enjoy hearing only what was intended to be heard. I am curious though, what is the main reason you like DenonLink? Is it because your tracks are extended to 7.1? Can you hear any audible drawbacks? It looks like a really sweet technology, and admittedly, I am not sure I ever even heard of it before.
  24. Are you going to be using HDMI? If so, the audio DACs won't matter in the player. Btw, you mention only SACD but don't discount DVD-Audio as well. I will only be using HDMI when streaming from internet. I'll be using the 7.1 analog outs for everything else except two channel stuff, in which case I will be using the 2.0 analog out.
  25. The more I look, the more mixed reviews I am finding. Some say the difference can be more than subtle. Others say there will be no difference, just as well as there is never a difference between the sound quality of different prepros. The only variable I can come up with is these people are demoing their blu-ray players on different setups. What I am thinking, and this makes sense to me, is that the difference you do or do not hear from difference prepros and sources is dependent on the rest of the system, most importantly the speakers. Going from a low end blu-ray player to a high end while using a 200$ Sony HTIB from Best Buy, I am willing to bet there won't be any difference at all in sound quality. On the other hand, if someone has the same upgrade, but on a better set of speakers, I am thinking there likely will be a difference. If right, I guess in the end, I will figure out how good these RF-83s are. I am not expecting a night and day difference, but if I can hear even a very subtle difference in audio on blu-ray, than the extra money I spent towards it instead of going with a cheaper SACD only player, it will be worth it.
