It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Any other suggestions besides Klipsch and SVS that would have a great sub for under ~600. ---------------- Have you considered building one yourself? If you have only basic woodworking knowledge, you can follow the advise of someone here or follow online plans using Adire Audio drivers. You'll get a far better price/performance ratio this way. With ~$300-350 in parts to build a vented Tempest you can similar performance capabilities of an SVS CS Ultra with will cost well over $1k when you add an amp
  2. The best bang for you buck is SVS(Hsu's another good one). In your budget they have a few options to consider and all of them are much better subs than the two you have mentioned. Do you have an old receiver or spare amp channel? If so, you can get one of the passive models and save some money. I've tried powering three different SVS with only 100W and all of them go surprising loud with a relatively small amount of power.

  4. I haven't heard the Tivoli radio, but the Cambridge Soundworks Model 88 sounds damn good although it still is quite pricey IMO(not like the Bose radio though).

However, that's all just me opinion and im a lot tighter on cash too...it is a cool toy though. and behringer makes amazing products (i've got their headphone distribution amp thingy and some crossovers and effects processors) i guess it depends on its use too; like for HT and Techno it'd prob be amazing ---------------- I get what you're saying now. I already have a Behringer Feedback Destroyer which has a 12 band parametric for my subwoofers though. I mainly posting this to find out anyone who's used something like this for mainly HT use found the effect annoying or unnatural sounding. I know this can put a great deal of extra stress on the subwoofers but I have two giant vented Styke AV15 sonosubs with 750W to each in a 1500ft^3 bedroom so I feel my subs are capable of handling the stress. I also have a subsonic filter to to prevent bottoming below my subs tuning frequency.

  7. I'm sure a dab of glue would be fine, but I would be dissappointed knowing I paid for a brand new piece of equipment that doesn't look new. If it does come off completely, nothing will happen to it. I have a Dayton DVC12 where the cork gasket came off completely and there are no problems.

I have never heard a svs or too many other home subs so I have no clue about there output. ---------------- If you're considering the dual 20-39CS package from SVS, that costs $1149 and dual 20-39PCi's cost $1200. If you're not familiar with the SVS line, the two above mentioned options are practically the same. The 20-39CS package is two unpowered cylinders with a seperate Samson S700 amplifier and the 20-39PCi is the same as the CS but it has an amplifier built into the tube. The step up from that is the Plus line which uses a much better woofer named the dB12. The dB12 woofer is capable of ~3-4dB more clean output than the ISD woofer(the woofer in the PC/CS subs) and the PB2 Plus uses two of them. In addition more clean output from the woofer the PB2-Plus has three 4" instead of the two 4" ports from two CS/PCi cylinders. This does two things for you, the first is better performance down low and the second is it gives you the option to "tailor" the sound to your liking. SVS gives you port plugs(fancier name for foam), when no port blockers are inserted, the subwoofer is tuned to 25hz. With one port blocked it's tuned to 20hz and with two ports blocked it's tuned to 16hz. The lower you tune the better performance you get down low, but the less overall output you get, you can experiment and see what you like best. One other small but important feature the PB2 Plus sub has is the continously variable instead of just the 0 or 180 positions. It's good to have it so you can eek that last few dB's out of your system.

Would the 2 SVS be at the same point of fixen to distort, or would they be able to keep going? Thanks ---------------- I think dual 20-39CS' would be a good match in terms of output above 30hz. Down low the RSW15 will be weak in comparison to the dual SVS 20-39CS'. I think a better choice would be the PB2-Plus though.

You can also look into the Audio Control Phase Coupled Activator (PCA) Series III (Like an Epicenter for your house). I prefer the DBX unit since the Audio Control tended to be a one note wonder. The DBX 120X-DS is widely used by musician's and studios. It is actually preferred over the current offerings from the DBX Professional group. The 120X-DS was designed and engineering by the original DBX consumer group before their demise in 1990. They still command a good price on eBay when they do pop up. ---------------- Thanks, I'll look into the Audio Control and DBX. Have you ever found it to put too much strain for the Velo 15" in your system? I haven't really been able to reach the limits of my currents subs yet so I don't imagine I'll have any problems. I usually stop turning it up when all the lights in my room dim to the bass.

Is there something in particular that you don't like about it that makes you think it's not worth $80?
  12. The best bang for your buck is SVS and I think they're more popular than Klipsch subs here. Just browse the subwoofer forum and you'll see what I mean

The speakers i have decided on are the RB-35 which have 125max continues power... however the B.A.S.H amp in the pm5.1 only output 60w per channel... does this mean that the pm bash amp will not be sufficient to power those speakers? if so should i be better off getting the RB-25 which have 75watt rms? ... i will be buys a proper amp within time but not for a while yet.. ---------------- 60W will be fine for either speaker.

David Wilson was introduced to his life's work one Christmas - at 13 - as he lay in bed, trying to sleep. Sleep would not come, however, because carolers in the neighborhood kept singing, without moving on. Frustrated, he went to his window. There were no singers; a neighbor had placed a Klipsch speaker on his front porch - pouring carols into the night.

I would like to see what they can do. There has been a lot of "hype" about this sub and some "strange" curve data. From what I know about it, I would be suprized to find it able to do what is claimed. ---------------- I would be really interested in hearing the results. Could you elaborate about the strange curve data please.
  16. That's one nice setup, that Samsung tv looks mighty sharp built in to the cabinet.
  17. I saw the Behringer Ultrabass EX1200 subharmonic synthesizer while looking for something else and with me being the bass crazed man that I am it peaked my interest. I believe my subs are fully capable of handling the extra load this would put on my system. I mainly use my system for HT and I think this could be a fun piece of equipment to add. I've never really looked into something like this before, does anyone have experience using something like this in their system?
  18. Isn't the Daeva a sealed Tempest with 250W? If so, I wouldn't bother with it if you already have the FSR18.
  19. Congrat's on the great amp, what were you using to power the Klipsch before this?

While I can hit about 154.2dB, I'd say the frequency response only extends to about 28hz. I listen to alot of music in my car, as well as at home and I can say that after extensive listening to the same cd's, the subs in the car SUCK. Certain passages are overly boomy, and the upper LFE frequencies sound terrible. It is nowhere near as smooth or deep as my SVS PB2+. The only good thing about my subs are to drown out other would-be blokes on the street trying to bump their sounds. Oh, and most subs for autos are 4ohms. ---------------- A flat in car reponse is usually achieved with a sealed enclosure. What kind of enclosure are those Eclipse subs in? You can see I have fairly flat response and good extension with 3 MTX Blue Thunder 10's in a 2.8ft^3 sealed enclousure with good extension in the trunk of my sedan. My front speakers start to drop off ~70hz.
  22. I bought some high quality brass binding posts for $1.25/ea from madisound.com.
  23. The SB-3 might be a slight bit more authorative in the low end with it's bigger woofer and certainly is a good speaker but it won't come close to matching the detail of the RB-25's. Do you have a sub or plan to add a sub later?
  24. Great sub, you won't be the least bit disappointed, it's easily the best sub under $1K. I would sell the KSW12 and put the money towards a parametric EQ like the BFD. It's only $120 shipped and I guarantee it'll have much more positive impact on your bass than adding the KSW12 ever will. With the money left over buy the wife something to keep her quiet.
