  1. To all that do not want be vaccinated and say it is their right...with the ICUs getting close to max due to unvacinated, you are affecting other who are vaccinated and need medical attention for other reasons. The ones yhat need medical attention could be a loved person in a car accident or any other serious condition.

  2. Basically, the NC-400 is the Easiest Kit you will ever build, guaranteed. Then when you compare the sound of it's First Watt to a Real First Watt Amplifier (Pass Class A) on HORNS, you will realize that your have the same Sound Quality as the Class A, without the built in "space heater" of Class A.

FYI, I never shut of my NC-400's, only the Pre Pro, CD player and 4K Blue Ray/4K OLED are shut off. Same is true for the subwoofer power amps, and the TI Chip Amps I use for the surround channels, their Quiescent Current wouldn't even charge my iPhone, so they are on too.

The Hypex is like Class A sound quality with Seemingly Unlimited Headroom with HORNS, which I only come close to "using up" on my demo drum recording that hits 124 db peaks!!

One word of caution that I mentioned before with the Hypex and other amps with no gain controls:
It bears repeating, with Horn Speakers, you need to attenuate the drive Voltage from your preamp with Potentiometers.

The Extreme Sensitivity of Horns requires lowering the always Too High Voltage gain of all High Power Amplifiers, and FORCE the Pre Amp or Pre Pro to put out a much higher Voltage Swing for Audio.

Remember that all Signal to Noise ratios of Power Amps are measured and REFERENCED TO full output, way above the noise floor. You'll thank me later for this technical tidbit!

This is what I use on my NC-400. I have several of these. Worth every penny!!!

Why not attenuate via your active crossover?

  3. I literally flip-flopped several times on the final decision to take the shot of my choice.

I believe myself to be a very healthy specimen.

I also believe I had Covid just before Christmas 2019. I NEVER take a day off work for illness but I recall thinking if I wasn't off for holidays at the end of the week it was going to be a personal first. I was more drained than I had ever felt. Within a matter of days it was gone and the holidays were here.

In the end, in my heart of hearts, I do not for a moment believe we have seen the end of diseases like Covid. And their progressively worse variants.

I also think the mRNA approach is the answer.

A little adjustment to the recipe at each stage of mutation.

I have never taken a flu shot, but I may reconsider this in the future too.

Having said that, it is curious how "the flu" was all but non-existent last year. Something worked there.

I have heard that the future flu and COVID will be combined as one shot.

  4. This is a somewhat disturbing thread, due to the fact that I do own 6 MiniDSP PWR-ICE-125 plate-amps! I bought them some years ago, before I found Klipsch Community and the K 402 MEH, to build a traditionally 3 way loudspeaker.

Well as is, I do not have any issues with the sound of the DSP processor and the ICE-Power class D amplifier, as my system only consists of a woofer and a fullrange-driver (Visaton B200). The little AMT driver is not connected yet, and the crossower´s are not really optimised. So I have not heard the plate-amp on a dedicated high-frequency device like my AMT-tweeter. But I am a bit nervous that I will hear some of, what is described in this threat! By the way, as I do have six plate-amps, I use them in bridged mode, to supres some hum.

BUT now to the first big question that has been haunting me for a while: Will It be possible/listenable to use an AXI2050 in a K402-like horn with an ICE-POWER amp??????? I have an idea of substituting the ICE-POWER amp with a little german DIY class A amp that is inspired by the Aleph 0 amp by Nelson Pass ( https://www.buscher-endstufen.de/produkte/se-12/ ) and keep the dsp-module.

Next question: I know that you Chris use D75 amps for your woofers. Do you think it would be "safe" to use an ICE-Power amp for woofer-duties, or would you also say go for class A for the woofers in the MEH? Then mister Buscher also has a SE25 class A amp (25 W 4 ohm), that I could substitute.

I thought this was the right place to ask. Thank you in advance.

    Regards

    Steffen

I use the Icepower asx125btl amps for my MEH woofers...sound fine to me.

  5. If I can get the money together this year... I want to get the Trinnov Altitude 16 or a used 32. By going this route I can sell my Xilica xp4080, 2 DDRC88M boxes, and my cxa5100, and save space in the rack...plus have a upgradeble preamp. This will be my endgame processor if I can get the cash together. The Trinnov Altitude can do 80+ filters per speaker. Another nice feature is you can rotate the sound to othrr speakers of you have a tv on the side wall...so you can still use your system speakers 90 degrees from normal.

  6.
Do you have plans to hang a baffle or a diffuser between your concave ceiling and your main listening area?
Wife is def against that....it was hard enough to get the MEHs in the room, hopefully I will have 2 more soon. We are also contemplating moving to Portugal in a few years...so I am mainly trying to get everything I want before we do a move, so I can avoid high duty rates.

  7. Seems to be the thing for this forum this summer, lot of rebuilding theaters going on in here.....

I'm stepping back into the world of high end pre-pros, been looking at the landscape and I'm landing (if all goes right this next week) on a Mac 151 (from the "one generation back" school as I tend to do with high end digi-gear). Mac really is a good fit for Klipsch and I feel pretty safe with that choice in terms of sonics, it's really not much of a gamble, not to mention the RoomPerfect (the creme de la creme in room correction if reviews are any indication) seems to be a real plus. MX160s (4K version) are around for the 8Kish area on the market, which now are a gen back with the MX170 now out (14K list new).

Bryston won't do much to assuage our budget side, either, the SP3 in the five figure ballpark, like the Tinnov and Datasats.

I think the "one to watch" is the Anthem, the AVM70 ad AVM 90 (high end audio version) are going to be lookers in terms of feature set and package, but these are pretty much unobtainium until late summer/fall (AVM 90 mid-Oct). I think these will be really attractive for their price. They will have the Roon/XLRs but no Auro3D as Anthem has their own version.

The Marantz 8805A is just now posted on Marantz's.website, 8K and will have the Roon/Auro3D/XLRs. Audyssey RC, however.
I would be interested in how room perfect does. Another one I am seriously looking at is the AudioControl Maestro x7. From what I have read they are 2nd to none on customer service, and the product is coming up on 2 years since release. I also have heard they just work.

  8. I currently have a Yamaha cxa5100, and I am wanting to upgrade to something that can get more out of my audio setup. I have been looking at the Monoprice HTP-1, JBL SDP50, Lyngdorf MP50 or MP60, and the Trinnov Altitude 16 channel. The Trinnov is really quite a bit over over budget though...unless I can find a super deal.

I have a difficult room to tune with a 32' high concave brick ceiling that is about 25' long, with about 8' of it having a 2nd floor loft. The room is 19' wide, and 40' long. All built out of brick, and with marble floors. I have 13' tall heavy stage curtains o. The front wall, 7' wide curtains on both side walls (same as the front wall curtains), with 2 bass traps 13' tall. I will be placing some 4" thick 4'x4' absorption panels on each side of the MEHs, plus about 6 2'x4' panels up hiher on the walls, and in the center of the front wall (between the 2 12' or so windows).

I have listed the room because I have been told some room processors do better with hard to setup rooms. I am not interested in Audyssey or YPAO. I like Dirac, but I am not sure if something like Roomperfect would do a better job in my situation...hence why I am asking about what others are using.

Required items are Roon, Auro3d, and xlrs.

  9. My fiancé thought the Cornwalls were big, lucking she’s pretty accepting.  I made dinner for her just to help smooth the transition.  Knowing the dimensions doesn’t really prepare you for how big these are inside your home!
My wife does not like my k402 MEHs...so I made grills for them and now they are more acceptable to her. The other night she actually listened to them, and said they really sound good.

  10. I am not in the mood for going through all the posts.
Hypothetical question here: how much can be accomplished with MEH design fully active in an acoustically untreated room?
What are the parameters that matter most in such environment (i.e. ceiling height, room walls ratio etc.)?
Materials of walls are made of (brick, wood, combination of both, something else)?
Mine sound pretty damn good in a brick room, stone floors, an d a concave brick ceiling. All I have is a large rug., and no other treatments. Now in my room I am going to make acoustic panels, as I have found in the past they can make a bigger improvement than buying new equipment. In addition they allow you to reach the full potential of your equipment. Plus a lot cheaper than buying more equipment.

  11. fantastic ,  great job ------keep on showing us the pictures
That is from the one I made in 2017. Hopefully I will get the bendable plywood in a week or two. The picture shows how I made the mounting plate for the compression driver, and I think I will do it the same as it is much easier to install the driver. In addition I plan on marking the square opening of the throat and blending it to the 2" driver size.

  12. Thanks for posting this description and the picts [emoji3]
So on this new build you are working on, with all 4 sides equal, I gather you are planning on the same H vs V, correct?
If so what degree angle pattern ?

I think I might be able to pull off a flared square pattern with the bendy board;  60x60 etc.  It's the different angles that melt my mellon, 90x60 etc.
The picture frame style has worked well for me, although i've tried to make the secondary flares removable, and it's been harder than expected to keep the joints from resonating when driven hard.

I very much share parlophone1's questions.
Extremely curious how you compare your DIY's to the K-402's, and your motivations behind the DIYs.
    Thx again.

    edit:
ps....i now see you posted to parlophone1..

I think the curved flare can be made removable...I would french the screw holes just a bit, and make the horn 3/4" thick at least at the part the curved flair would attach. I believe it will be 60 degree for the horn pattern.

  13.
    NBPK402,
would you describe the sound characteristic of your first MEH attempt?
I was following that project hoping to maybe one day do somethinng similar. How is it different to your ears than MEH made using K-402 horns, and what made you go further with MEH explorations?
I wish I could...it was 4 years ago and we only had time to listen to it once, and all we had done was cross it over at 500hz. Also we used round ports instead of oval ports. All I can remember is it sounded better than a modified La Scala except at one frequency which it seemed strange (which we were thinking was around the crossover frequency).
