  1. TBrennan, I have some costom made cornwall cabnets with a McCauly lens like yours(might be one size smaller). It set up as a 2 way with nice RCF bass drivers. I use it as Mains in a small Pa or side fill in larger sytwms. The lens was great in small wide rooms with it wide cover.I had more complements with these speakers for there sound than my pro lascalas.Still the the lascala was very nice but its lack of bass and narrow covage had a lot to do with losing ou to the super Cornwall. Lascalas have a smaller sweet spot but it is a very good one.
  2. I bought a empty mint walnut vertical 1967 Cornwall cabnet on ebay a while back for only50 bucks. I then found a mixed pair of vertical cornwalls a 62 and 67 on ebay for 400 only 10 miles from home. The mixed pair had a matching 67 walnut vertical cornwall to my empty 67. I was going to rob the part out of the 62 for the empty 67 but its a 62 signed by paul himself so I thought I try to find a mid horn and crossover. ANYONE HAVE A TYPE B CROSSOVER AND 600HORN?
  3. THE MUSIC BOX was the king of klipsch delers in the Mass area from the 50's through the 90's. when you bought a pair of Khorn 9consider a very special thing ) they put you name on a plaque and added to there Khorns owners wall. I always wanted to get on that wall. But by the time i got my first khorn it was a single 58 model used for 150 and not new from them. Mr. bell that owned the Music Box was a old time khorn fan from back in the day. he was a personal freind of Paul klipsch. He even brought a pair of khorns and Marantz amps to the worlds fair in brussels in 1959. Thats a cool story, I have to post it here one day .I have a 6 pages on that story. Anyway the Music Box was always good to me I listend to a lot of stuff on the Khorns in there well tuned room. Bulit for the khorns back in the 50's. I was once told they were the oldest hifi store in the us and maybe the first?
  4. rember ther is more than one bleach to try. I would try good house hold bleach first. If that dos'nt work try some pool shock bleach ( a strong bleech). If that dosnt work they make a special wood bleech. and when all those fail try sanding then bleech.sand bleech sanding.but dont sand throught the venear.
  5. I live in Mass and thought of bidding on theses until the price reached 1500.I also think they might be in Welllesly Mass (was working there today) as the old klipsch delear was located there, in a buliding like in the discription. I going to pass as I already have 3 vertical cornwalls a pait or 67 and a 62 plus one rear port 60 Cornwall. running out of room. I really like the raw look of Decoraters . Is it a shame when they get home or pro coverd as the stock decoraters is worth more nthese days than stock vert cornwalls. Did anyone see the nice Cornwall vert cabnets only on ebay for Buy it now of 100.00.
  6. Guy Landau, Sorry about that I had no idear a fellow Klipsch head was biding on a Altec. That big red was just to cool looking to let pass me by. I have a vintage anolg studio I want to use it in. Put it between my 2 big ALTEC 609 CABS LOADED WITH 604B SPEAKERS.
  7. This ebay link only shows one speakerfor sale and finish looks orig.
  8. Guy Landau, If you ever come across one Altec Big red let me know or even just the crossover. I can't wait to hear it and see how it compares to my Altec 604 with 609 cabnet(sort of a cornwall size much much heaver built),
  9. These were about the best built klipsch liscened cabnets better build quailty than klipsch. Not sure about the sound in the mid and high end as I never heard one but probably pretty dam good.
  10. Check this out,http://members.aol.com/searsound/articles2.html. kind explanes why we like or tubes and vintage gear.
  11. I won a masterlab Atlec big red speaker on ebay. Anyone know of one for sale? thio was just to cool to let pass by. I can always use it as a center or mono monitor for recoding. But would like to build or buy another. will be nice to have something of a diffrent flovor from my Khorns and Cornwalls and vintage altec 604,sb
  12. I guess know here Knows how rare theses are. You could find vert Rosewood cornwalls all day long and never find a pair of theses. This is the first time I have seen the early stevens trusonic(wood midhorn and driver.Klipsch used trusonic drivers in early khorns. and that super rare 15 driver is just to cool. Even the famous horn site with allit rare driver on display dosn't have any of these drivers. I wish I had the $$ to spare.
  13. smilin, I rember seeing these on ebay. I just thought you knew they were designer cabs with added frount and finsh and you were going to finsh to match the nice black designer you already won on ebay. These still are fait oncomono you just dont see many decorater vert Cornwalls. Just take the grill/frame off file holes sand down and spray with black lacure.
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3072418317&category=14993 SOMEONE HEAR SHOULD BUY this rare pair. I would buy these if I had'nt spent all my $$$$ I never have seen a woofer like this before. they are cool
  15. Thanks Ryan for the info on the amps. Nos thanks for offering to help The history of the amps are. I now have three amps the matched pair are gold toned frames with serial #2993 and 2995. the other has a silver base. serial # 2993 was found at the local dump 10 years ago in a ampligraph radio airplay console with a mcintosh audio compensater. It looked to cool not to take home.I could only take the amp, preamp and ampligraph vu meter asd the cool console would not fit in my freind car. when I came back the cabnet and turntable were gone. Last year I found 2 on ebay the silver one and the match # 2995. Its funny how the matched pait came to be One found at the dump in wellesley mass and the other from Cailforna(ebay find). I had a local guy that was going to rebuild them but cant do it for a year or so. Just have to find someone that wants to doit.
  16. I tried just about all banaa plugs made and have found the #45-266 dual bana plug by LKG Indrustries rockford Il. To fit and work the best The have nice hand tight tumb screws which is great as no tool is needed. I found mine at You do it elctronics in Nedham ,Ma. They only cost about 5 bucks each. I never buy the over priced ripe off monster cable products again.
  17. Anyone using Scott 220A mono amps with khorns or other klipsch speakers? I have a matched pair that I want to rebuild ,plus one more for a center. They are 6l6 based 18 watt each.
  18. I'll trade a full dressed shorthorn for a 59 0r 60 rear port cornwall! My early 60 cornwall uses the same front panel as the top of the line short horn as well as driver horns ect. The front "Tv style" panels are one and the same you could swap them and never no the diffrence. I was Thinking of building a cornwall rear port clone cabnet and using the short horn front panel on it for a matching pair. If I do this I would sell just the bare (no trim panel short horn cabnet. I have looked on eaby since 98 and have only seen one rear port cornwall and thats the one I have now ,they afre rarer then hens teeth. Short horn are not that common either but ther weas just a run of the on ebay well 2 in the last few months.
  19. Q-Mann said "The first Klipschorns were built with backs that completed the folding of the basshorn and had a top on the basshorn. This top came out to the front of the speaker and was below the midrange horn, just like the Hartsfield. Another words it was also a complete basshorn. I don't know the reasons why Paul changed this design" I just wondering were you got this info on a khorn with built in back flares instead od walls? I have seen what I think is all of the proto type khorns as well as many or the early 40,s ones. all look basicly like the modern khorn. There is one on the horn site with sides but I 100% sure they were add buy a owner yeras ago.
  20. I rember # 14 being offerd on ebay 4 years ago with out the added outer cabnet. If i were to add it to my early klipsch collection the outer cab croosover and horn would go. But 2 grand for a hack early khorn missing all the rare orig componts is to much. you dont see the early wood/glass mid/high horn for sale. I think they used the mid horn that fits this up to around 52 or 53. And the right bass driver is also very very rare. I going to hold out for another ealry khorn # 13 must still out there. I found a Mint 51 khorm right on this site for only 600 last year.
  21. My vote is for a good used crown psa2 I have 2 that I use one for rec.. studio power amp and one for home use. The psa2 crown is real smooth with horns it hold it own aganst my threshold amp and scott tube amps. i have never noticed any sound coming from the fans when playing music they are (if working right) very very quite. The can be bought on ebay cheap. Back in the day they were the top choice for recoding studios over such amps as mcintosh. I think they may be the best used amp vaule on the planet. when bridged mono they can put out a lot of power and are rated down to 2 ohms.

  23. Fini, The black widow is a good arm with the right Cart. I have a Thorens TD 125 mark II with blackwidow and Ortofon LM20. I was Thinking of trying out some other carts as my stylus was lost,But i just found out they are still avalible new. I did a search on the net for blackwidow arms seems like they sell for big $$ when the rarly come up for sale. saw one go for around 500. I have the orig black widow box with all directions and setup/install templets if you need and help.
  24. Yup just get some khorns! I have a pair of pro lascals I use for mointers in my band room. I had them hooked up to a crown psa2( a match made in heaven) they are the two piece sytem so I somtimes use them with a Altec A7 type cabnet for deeper bass this really sounds good with the lascala top. I have also used the tops with my vintage khorns To see the diffrence betwwen early and later khorns. As the mid and highgs and cross over are the same as the later khorns.
  25. I have bought a Benchmark DAC I DA converter for monitering my Paris Ensonig digital strudio. Paris ensoniq btw is the anti protools Daw more anlog like sound.
