  1. I like spotify but the promise of 1411kbps flac drew me to tidal. If spotify offered this I would stay. Thoughts on this?
  2. Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We are a little ahead of you down here in New Zealand.
  3. Anyone here tried tidal hifi? I tried it just the other day and am pretty impressed with the quality. I have always been an HT guy but ever since I purchased my 83s I have been more 2ch than ever before, probably around 70/30 music/ht right now. Prior to tidal I was only streaming youtube for the majority of my music so this is definitely a step up. I have tidal streaming off the web browser on my gaming pc, audio set to 16bit 44.1khz on the pc audio settings to match the content. Audio is sent from my gtx970 via hdmi to my old onkyo 705 used as pre/pro sending the signal to my NAD and rf83s. I do not use audyssey on ht or 2ch anymore and have a seperate sub eq and very basic "room treatments" consisting of throw rugs hung at the 1st reflection points. Laugh if you will but using the clap test I went from a distinct sharp echo when clapping in the room to none at all just with wall hangings. I also switch from 2.0-2.1 depending on music genre and/or mood. If any here are running tidal hifi what are connections, methods and reasons?
  4. Rb75 has 1.75" compression driver mated to an 8" horn, the same as rf7. Rb81ii has 1" compression driver mated to a 6" horn, the same as rf82ii. Similar to comparing rf7 to rf82ii. I know what I would rather have given the choice.
  5. Interesting. Thanks guys. I have only heard the rps in a shop so far so that doesn't really count, I am looking forward to hearing these rp260fs and twin 10" subs with some music. Perhaps we are in for a very musical flagship when it arrives?
  6. Anybody compared these yet? Lots of talk on how good the new horn is, but how does it compare with the 1.25" 6" tractrix combo? I am setting up my friends new system when it is delivered this week, he managed rp260f, rp250c, r15m and 2 10" velodyne subs. A pretty decent step in the right direction for him considering he still thinks his 10 year old sony mini system "cranks".
  7. Hi guys I am wondering if anyone has directly compared any of these speakers for music listening? I have rf83s and rf82iis and the difference is clear. With the new horn supposedly taming the highs how do they stack up against the smooth reference iv flagships? My friend is getting a system for christmas at my recommendation and will be getting rp260/280f depending on price so I can compare then. Please note I am not implying the reference premiere can directly compete with older generation flagships but I am interested to know how close the new horn brings them. On a side note I also hope the rf7ii replacement (when or if it comes) is a newer version of the rf83 with a larger version of the new horn style- similar in style to the wireless set I have seen pics of.
  8. They sound as good as they look, such a great speaker. Would still love to hear rf7ii one day
  9. Agree, towers are best but bookshelves will work. I also have rf82iis for surround and they are excellent
  10. I had these speakers like this solely as a comparison when I upgraded to rf83. The rf82 are excellent as surrounds which is where you should keep them. If for whatever reason you are to re-arrange the furniture so you can no longer accommodate them maybe consider dropping down to a 2ch setup as the 83s are awesome for music.
  11. I like the RC62ii, in fact so much so that I used 2 of them as surrounds. That being said it sounded small between 2 rf82s. That was the case after various runs of audyssey, eq tweaking, channel adjusting and no audyssey. Even the audyssey chirps I could hear a clear difference in sound. The rc64ii sounded to me much bigger, fuller and at home between rf82s. Just another opinion to take into account.
  12. What if the new reference flagships are rp83f and rp63f with a larger compression driver and larger new style hybrid horn? I would like to hear those in 2ch
  13. Just curious, what tones do you guys use to set your sub level?
  14. Eq some bass and turn off audessey..
  15. Have you guys tried playing with the eq for 2.0ch? I use the basic bass tone control which boosts frequencies around 40-60hz, usuallly 4db hot. Not for everyone but will really show you how well just your speakers can run if you have the power.
  16. I miss my old AMC 2ch integrated. I am sure there are a lot better out there but even this thing for 2ch was substantially better than my onkyo, both used as pre only to an NAD 2ch amp.
  17. The KLF30's should still be able to function in a similar fashion. There is essentially no movement of the woofers on the KLF's. Feeling for air moving out of the ports results in nearly nill. I get that room accoustics will produce a different sound, but this is night and day. The system sounds dead........ Also, the person that set it up, bi-wired the speakers. Should this matter? Running audessey and flat eq I get minimal movement from my 83s woofers. Stereo and a bump in eq running +6 above reference really gets the woofers moving!
  18. I also would not be happy with audessey returning a -12db setting, something is not quite right. Are your speakers toed in, in corners, near reflective walls?? All of this needs to be addressed.
  19. Try turning audessey off, running full range 2ch stereo and bump the tone control or eq up around 4db in the 40-60hz region. This is how I listen to 2ch music. 2.1 I drop the eq back down and run my subs around 4db hot, still no audessey. 6.1 movies audessey is engaged, all tone controls are flat and I run the subs around 6db hot. Give the 1st option a go, my NAD and rf83s sure pump.
  20. No surprises with your results. Your 50.9lbs 805 driving your 63's is a completely different animal than my 28.4lbs 705 driving my 63's in my almost 6000ft3 room. Bill Thats what I have, onkyo 705. Still use it as pre/pro. My 150wpc NAD weighs over twice the weight of the 90wpc receiver. I haven't wasted my time trying the 83s on it.(receiver)
  21. Instead of dub step- this has more bass, and the low rumble visceral stuff: Pete Belasco - Deeper Have no idea wha that is lol will check it out when I get home, 2.0 then 2.1
  22. robbiey60, Have you had the opportunity to directly A,B,C the top of the Line PF-39 Paladium, RF-7II Reference, and the Klipschorn Heritage at the flip of a switch in the same room at the same time? About 30 of us did just that in Hope, Arkansas a couple of weeks ago at the USA Klipsch plant and the ones I have talked to agree, it was not even close, the Klipschorn sounded best by a large margin, Reference and Paladium were MUCH closer, but in sound ONLY, I preferred the RF-7II over the PF-39s. The Paladiums definitely have the looks, AND the price tag, but that is all IMO. My breakdown after personally hearing just about every one of the big boys ever made by Klipsch would be Klipsch Pro/Cinema, Heritage,...... Reference II, Paladium. I own RF-7 orriginals in my parents home theatre, but have not A/Bd them with RF-7IIs (Youthman here on the forum could better compare those two) I also have not personally heard Reference Premiere yet. To the original poster, Are there used Klipschorns and LaScalas to be had in Australia, or are you willing to go that far over budget on speakers? If like me, sound is by far the most important over looks, Cinema is absolutely the way to go. New, you could possibly look at Jubilees, around $7,000 USD here, but we have a seriously great second hand market and even better sounding for a lot less money is to pick up a pair of used MWM double bins and put a pair of the K-402 horns with K-69 Drivers from the Jubilees on top. Of course, space becomes the main issue when talking MWMs. If you absolutely want new, I would consider new Heresey or Cornwalls from the Heritage line over RF-7IIs. The Hereseys are more than capable when an excellent subwoofer or two are added. Your best sound for the money is ALWAYS going to be to put the bulk of your money in the speakers. Roger Was referring to the price more than anything as I am not lucky enough to have heard anything other than my own gear. Makes me smile though that palladiums arent as far ahead as I had assumed.
  23. Depends on what you're running. I've hit 134 db with two 12's in a car with a 40 watt amp. Watts alone isn't the whole story. Typically at normal listening levels we are all only sending a fraction of a watt to our mains. It's mostly only during peaks/transients/dynamics where it really makes much difference. Everybody likes watts though, nobody talks about large capacitors or a toroidal transformer that is big enough to power Ironman. My amps are 'only' 150wpc. They are over twice as heavy as my receiver and all have substantial sized toroidal transformers.
