  1. I would try as hard as possible to find a different location. I know sometimes we have to deal with what we got, but that's a terrible place to set up speakers. That doesn't look like a room that you will be allowed to add any sort of treatment, so you already have all those hard, reflective surfaces to deal with. Add to that the small amount of real estate between the speakers and you've really got issues.

    If you only want background music it would be ok. But for serious "sit down and focus on the music" listening, it's a thumbs down from me. I hate to sound discouraging and I wish you the best of luck. I guess it all depends on your priorities and your expectations.

  2. Can you post a pic of the area where the system will reside? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

    If I understand right, the wall you will have the speakers against is only 6 ft. wide. So if going with something like the Forte, you would have less than 3.5 ft. of space between the speakers. Not ideal in any stretch. Am I understanding that correctly?

    @KT88 If I look at the photo closely, the bookshelf is not in the room where the speakers are but on a wall behind it. It's remarkable that this makes an audible difference. I understand the reason why, but I would never have expected this to make an audible difference beforehand.

    If you’re not going to use absorption on the front wall, what will you use instead? Diffusers, or do you prefer to leave that wall completely untreated? And what’s your opinion on using absorption directly behind the speakers to absorb unwanted rear radiation?

    I have the option of using diffusors or absorption on the wall behind the speakers. I tried both and slightly prefer absorption there and a combination of absorption and diffusion at the first sidewall reflection points.

  4. I have no answer to your question but I’m curious about this preamp of which you speak. The only one I’m familiar with like that was one produced by Antique Sound Labs. Is there another?

    I’m interested and would be willing to pay you whatever you have in it (even though you’re advertising it for free). I can likely work out a trip from the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area to southern VA to pick it up in mid-September if that would work for you. If you get a better offer, that’s fine too.

    @Isshinryu

    I would be happy to hold it for you. I don’t want anything other than it to go to someone who would be happy to have it. PM me when you are ready to come.

  6. Have you tried taking the speakers back into the original room and trying them again? Have you tried bringing the electronics from that system into your office?

    edit: Just read that you brought the amp into the room. It could be just a matter of room acoustics. Have you tried moving the speakers and yourself around the room?

  7. I have here a pair of Verity Audio Parsifal Ovation loudspeakers for sale. Their reputation precedes them and they surely don’t come around very often. I rated these an 8, but I’d say their condition is excellent. The previous owner said there were some surface scratches that were touched up, but when I was polishing the enclosures I tried to find them with no luck.

    Comes with everything from the factory including flight cases and spikes. Weight is 144 lbs per case.

    Willing to help with shipping costs.

    Retail price 19,995.00

    Asking price 5,000.00
