  1. at this time no, just want to ad some subs to my mediocre little set up in a relatively small room at normal listening levels. im sure a dsp has its benefits but dont think thats totally necessary for my system right now.
  2. no, i do not ask the same questions about the same subs & nothing you have posted really proves anything. you keep posting things that dont apply to my question/situation & totally disregard my stated requirements of budget/space & reason for a sub in my system. i am NOT looking for max spl or lowest hz or big ported & horn loaded subs, each persons needs are different. one more time, this thread is about comparing dual/two/2- sb2000's to a single/1- pb13 ultra. i appreciate your comments & the links to graphs but none of that address these specific 2 vs 1 subs. so yes, i continue to re-state my objectives in reply to your comments, if you feel im asking the same questions, you are free to stop giving the same answers. i appreciate everyones advice & suggestions for other subs... unfortunately i can not afford new subs & i dont want ported/horn subs at this time for my needs in this room/system. unless someone has first hand experience with the 2 options im asking about we can wrap this thread up & i will continue searching for what im looking for. if the 2 sb2000s are such terrible subs, i will find that out & then resell them for what i pay, no waste of money & no harm seeing what they do in my room. there are plenty of satisfied owners of sealed subs. thank you
  3. yes i looked at the cylinders, kind of awkward to position them in my room & havent really seen any on the used market within my budget. my front corners are called for with the mains, i was planning to put the 2 sb2000s inside of the mains between the stand & mains... or maybe move one to the side wall closer to the end of the couch if it sounds better there after doing some checking with the "sub crawl" method.
  4. yes i stated i mainly listen to music, classic & modern rock, heavier rock/alternative. some movies but i have a different system i use for movies.
  5. this isnt a competition & im not trying to prove you or anyone wrong... just asking some legit questions & stating what SVS & many others say about 2 subs vs 1.
  6. thanks for the info. the pb is clearly louder than the sb. but 2 of them wont fit in my room & 2 sb's will out perform 1 pb based on what ive read & what svs says. that is the main reason im considering dual sb's, they will fit better in my situation & 2 subs will eliminate room issues. the tuba sounds like a good bargain too, but size is the killer for me, & looking at the graph in the link, the tuba doesnt really look to be any better than the 12nsd graph as far as db/hz... it drops like a rock after 30hz.
  7. thanks for the comment, im aware horn subs are very good. curious, how much do you have in your tuba sub & amp? yes the pb13 is rather large, thats the main reason im considering 2 smaller ones, & i can get 2 used sb2000's for the same price as 1 pb13.
  8. awsome, thanks for the links! finally the first actual comparison of these subs after 2 pages, but only 1 vs 1. good to see the db numbers at certain hz ranges. looks like the pb13 is about 7-8db louder from 100-60hz, & after that its quite a bit louder at 10-12+db. as expected the pb 13 is a better sub & msrp was more than double the sb 2000s price. now forgive my ignorance, but what happens to the numbers when you have TWO of the smaller subs compared to 1 pb13? i dont know how to do that math equation for an accurate number but you would assume 2 subs to be a higher db in this case than just 1 sub, no? then consider the better placement ability to compensate for room problems with 2 subs vs 1 & it sure seems like 2 would be better than 1. kind of what SVS says in general too. as for the 12nsd vs the sb2000, SVS says they added more power but also used a totally redisgned (better) driver in the sb2000. something about testing like 13 different drivers untill they found the best one. the sb2000 is supposed to be quite a bit better than the nsd. would like to see tests from these guys on the sb2000. thanks again
  9. ok, but again what im asking about here is 1pb13 vs 2 sb2000's... are you implying 1 pb13 sub will outperform 2 sb2000 subs?
  10. i asked earlier if you have heard the sb2000's & you didnt really say you had, just that you've heard "most" their subs... sorry for any confusion. im not making it seem about svs, just replying to your comments saying i basically need big ported subs, or nothing. the chorus2 may be "big boy" speakers, but again, they are not always pushed to max output, there is a big range of normal & upper listening levels that doesn't yield their max bass & you have control over it with a volume knob regardless of amp power. subs will add to the mains & provide the lower octave myelf & many others are after. i've owned lots of mid range subs over the years, obviously not as nice as yours, & many other big boy speakers, from dual 12" woofer epic cf4 to 2 pairs of K-horns & many others in between... ALL of them benefited from a sub wether ported or sealed, 12" or 15". i used to own a sealed velodyne fsr15 that was an excellent sub & would not run out of steam in a normal size room, except for maybe at all out max volume of the k-horns, but the sub still helped every other place. unfortunately my audio budget doesnt really allow to buy a big ported sub, then have more money to buy another one later. & the room size & placement options are still a big factor, the room doesn't magically get bigger to allow for dual ported subs now or at a later time. nor do i need that much bass in this small room, with close neighbors on both sides. just being realistic here, i think we have different wants & needs for a sub & can leave it at that. looks like not many here have directly compared the subs im asking about, so i will report back or post a new thread if & when i locate what im looking for. thanks for the replies & messages!
  11. ok, my comments are refering to how you said the pb13 ultra was a childs toy compared to your horn subs, & that SVS is nothing special, that does not pertain to me in any way & is only your opinion of SVS. or that a single sealed sub will run out of steam, when i asked about dual sealed subs. or saying chorus2 have better/more bass than dual sb2000's yet youve never heard them & people add these types of subs (or lesser quality) to their main speakers all the time to improve or add to the bass. or the suggestion of dual ported 15's when i said i dont have the space/budget for them... then suggesting i make more space, sorry but an expansion of my basement footprint is not an option & a budget is just that, the amount i can afford to spend, if you want to kick in some $$ i would be happy to entertain other subs... not trying to argue with you at all, but remember my question was if anyone has compared the pb13 to dual sb2000's or just an opinion of the pb13 in general, not compared to horn subs. thanks again for the input.
  12. learn the hard way?? sorry but you lost me on that one. why so judgemental of my wants & needs? SVS are very good subs & 99% of people that own or hear them have nothing but positive things to say about them, & they are as good or better than most the top rated brands out there. yes there are better, but thats not needed for my current situation. as i said i value your input on subs, but nothing you explained in this thread pertains to what i was asking about... sounds like you are of the belief that everyone needs home built HUGE horn subs or uber expensive absolute top of the line subs no matter a persons budget or room size etc. or that anything else are childs toys! you are clearly on a completely different level than the majority of people on this forum or other casual listeners.
  13. cool. based on the serial # i saw in the ad they are v3. just curious on the port size since i coundt really tell in the pics. ive said many times before to not get too hung up on the version... all versions of these epics are excellent sounding speakers.
  14. congrats! those look very nice. can you post some pics of the ports or measure how deep they are? curious what version they are based on the serial #?
  15. x3 on the kg 5.5, ive owned numerous sets of them & they are a great speaker... for the prices i see on these lately they are hard to beat.
  16. @willland thanks for the explanation, i can see where he's coming from too. the point i was making though is that adding 2 subs to chorus2 or most other full range speakers almost always adds to & improves the overall bass capability, thats why so many people add sub(s) to their system... if the main speakers alone produced better/more bass than a decent quality sub.. there would be no need for subs! i fully understand & agree that bigger is better & 2 15" subs would be better than 2 12's, but unfortunately i am space & budget limited so i need to stay within reason here, yes i could buy/build a huge horn sub or dual 15" monstrosity subs, but at this point thats just not practical for my needs. thanks again for the input so far, but im only looking for opinions on the comparison of the 2 subs mentioned to help decide if i want 1 big pb13 ultra because theres a good local deal or hold out for dual sb2000s, but from the reading i've done & what SVS says about 2 subs vs 1, i think im set on dual sb2000s for the price of the 1 ultra... for now, can always sell them & upgrade down the road!
  17. never said you were BS'ing, & don't doubt how many subs you've built or owned, just asked to elaborate on your claim about chorus 2 having more/better bass than dual subs, & was curious if you have actually heard 1 or 2 sb2000's. if chorus2 or other equal size speakers produce better bass than a good quality sub, let alone 2 of them, why do so many people add subs to their systems? its because they add to or improve the bass of most any full range speaker on its own or they want more bass than the 2 speakers alone provide. in order to make a chorus 2 produce its maximum bass you need to turn up the volume pretty far & have them perfectly located, with sub(s) you have full control of the added bass. thats my reasoning at least
  18. ??? the chorus 2 will do a equal or better job on bass than dual sb2000's? i havent heard the 2000's but a friend has the nsd12 model before the 2000's & by itself it has at least equal or in some ways better bass than ch2. the sb2000 goes lower in freq & being dedicated subs i assume 2 will have better bass response & add the lower octave that full range sppeakers cant do. but again i havent heard sb2000s yet so im guessing.. have you heard 1 or even 2 sb2000's to support that claim? yes i have a mind set based on all the particulars i mentioned, mainly budget & room size, down the road in a different house etc maybe things will change. thanks again for the input & wished luck.
  19. as for testing the x-overs, it takes a pretty expensive meter to test the ESR of the caps, but being that old they are probably out of spec. however, saying that, i owned a pair of 1982 k-horns with the AA x-overs & they sounded great to me, so being out of spec is not always heard from the average listener. but if you dont have one of those meters, best way is to listen to them & see if the mids/tweets sound "muddy/dull" or distorted in any way. also listen to each speaker by itself & compare to one another for difference in sound. with a basic multi-meter you can also check the ohm reading of each driver & see if they are within specs other members can privide &/or that they match each other from each speaker. best bet for now is clean them up & loosen, clean & re tighten each terminal & i would cut the frayed ends of the input wires & get fresh wire exposed... make sure you mark them or do one at a time to put them back correctly. then listen & enjoy!
  20. my initial post is asking about DUAL sb2000's vs the pb13ultra. i am considering 2 of the 2000's, not one. so i highly doubt they will run out of steam for my needs. this is a relatively small room in my opinion, its a narrow rectangle with very low ceiling. i also dont run the ch2 at all out max volume but also dont intend to run 50watts or less... i stated i use a 200wpc seperate amp/pre set up. & while i value jasons input on subs, i think hes at a different level than me with horn loaded subs & calling the pb13 a childs toy... im not going for all out max SPL or extreme low hz. just want to add the missing lower octave for the music i listen to & keep it a tighter bass that seald sub(s) do vs ported. plus ported subs are usually much bigger than sealed. thanks again for the replies & suggestions, but im mainly looking for opinions on the pb13 ultra & or it vs dual sb2000's.

    Wanted: SVS sub(s)

thanks for the link, but too far from where i am now... although i was born & grew up right where that is. looks like you & @Westcoastdrums are in or close to my old stomping grounds! i would like to buy new but my sub budget doesn't allow right now, well it does but i wont let it. i have seen these used for half the price of new, many times with warranty still remaining. i just missed 2 deals locally on dual sb2000's for $450 single & $800 for both but they were gone by the time i replied. theres one on audiomart for $400 but he doesnt have original box for shipping which would be risky. if i had more $$ to spare i would consider other subs but i think the sb2000 will be fine for my needs.
  22. yes a big horn loaded sub isnt really an option for me, although i'm sure they are great. i suppose i am stuck with child's toys for now. speakers are chorus 2, running on 200watt/ch solid state seperates. only other thread i started was a wanted ad for the sb2000's, no other info there. the room is in a carpeted basement, about 22x14, with one bedroom door & a stairway opening on the long wall. its a pretty low 7.25'-7.5' drop ceiling, rafters above are 8" tall. 2 small windows up high & no other room treatments. listening position is a leather sectional couch about halfway in the room, maybe 1-2' forward. tv stand & tv between the speakers on the front short wall. the sb2000's are smaller 14x14x14 squares & are easy to move & position compared to the big pb13 that weighs 155lbs! i appreciate any input on the room or in general on other subs, but mainly looking for opinions on the pb13 vs 2 sb2000's, finding them used is what ive narrowed my sub choice & budget down to currently.
  23. any members here have the SVS pb-13 ultra sub? if so what are your opinions on it? ive read a bunch of reviews on the introweb but many seem biased towards SVS in general or are older reviews. just looking for some current reviews on this sub paired with klipsch speakers. & also any opinions on this sub vs dual sb2000's? the sb or pb 2000 is not in the same league as the pb13 ultra & cost less than half as much as the 13 ultra did when it was available. im thinking dual sb2000s would be better than a single 13 ultra but have not heard either in person to compare. theres a 13 ultra for sale in my area for about the same price as i can get 2 sb2000's for used, so just trying to decide which is better. i listen mainly to classic & modern rock music but also do some movies so i assume the sealed box is best. thanks in advance for any input
  24. im looking for a used one right now.. or 2!
