  1. Years of work and obligation and responsibility and cost. And years of delight, close friendship, undemanding affection, and good feelings about being a good "owner". Heck of a deal! Happy for you, my friend.
  2. Derrick, thanks for the pic so I may see exactly what you are saying. Who is " 'Chase subwoofer'--to see if he has any VS 18.1s"? I suspect you may be referring to Chase brand of subwoofer, or something?
  3. Opusk2k9--How could you say "No"? I'm a brute! Say, I remember when you posted that you had very recently acquired those fine-looking pups. Almost as cute and pretty as that little daughter (?) of yours!
  4. Posters, your words and ideas are helping me. I do have my Synergy Sub-10 hooked up, but the fact is that I cannot really say that I notice any effect from it. So, as part of the KLF-10 and KLF-C7 purchase I made recently, the previous owner "threw in" the LT-10 sub (with the one 10" active woofer, and the 2 10" passive ones) for me. I do not know how to hook it up behind my Pioneer Elite SC-35 7.1 receiver. If I want to see if both/neither/or one of the subs really is working properly (within my listening area, which I know really is too large for the subs), how would I go about hooking them both up "to see"? Do I need to get some kind of splitter to put into the receiver, so that it can accept the inputs from the two subs? One sub is likely to be placed about 15-20 feet of cable length from the receiver, and the other about 12 feet. Might I get whatever cable(s) might be necessary from a place like Monoprice, and not spend too much money simply to see what I actually have? If yes to above, what do you think will work properly? My suspicion is becoming increasingly strong that I am likely end up w/ a couple of DIY 15" Dayton or SI build projects, but I want to see what I really have and learn from this experience. It might be that one or both subs might be very suitable for a family member--if I am certain that they both are working properly, and that they might be a good fit elsewhere. Otherwise, I am sure they will benefit someone here or CL who is not facing the cubic footage challenge I am. Again, thanks to all for your help and interest!
  5. Talmadge and Youthman, Absolutely! They (30s, C7, 5.5s) have wonderful sound. Of course, other Klipsch speakers do, too.
  6. Hmmm, Willand. Obviously, you have given your layout, specs, and equipment a lot of thought. Am wondering--now, don't laugh--if I might get by with one 15" or 18" DIY PLUS the Klipsch LF-10 sub? The LF-10 has the following specs shown below. The fact is that I would prefer to NOT have to buy/build a 2nd sub. On the other hand, if I must, I will. No point in doing a half-***** job and not having things be right! P.S. Have no idea what that 1/8 space below is . . . . FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 19Hz-100Hz(+-)3dB MAXIMUM ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 120dB SPL @ 1/8 space, 1 meter MAX ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 120dB SPL @ 1/8 space, 1 meter AMPLIFIER: BASH® digital hybrid SUBWOOFER: K-1073-K 10" (25.4cm) Kevlar / Fiber-composite cone / cast aluminum frame active / Two KD-104-K 10" (25.4cm) Kevlar / Fiber-composite cone passive radiators LOW PASS CROSSOVER: Continuously variable from 40-120Hz, 36dB/octave slope above 120Hz ENCLOSURE MATERIAL: Medium density fiberboard construction (MDF) ENCLOSURE TYPE: Bass reflex via dual passive radiators
  7. Know what you mean. And Labs are such great dogs! Man, I cried like a baby when, over the years, I had to put down my magnificent Dobermans, and my miniature Schnauzer. Wonderful animals. My wife pleaded to have more life around the house (I'm not enough, I guess), and having failed to satisfy her longings first with a plant, then a goldfish, I allowed myself to be persuaded to get a rescue cat. Have to say, she is a sweetie. Told my wife "That's it. I've done what you asked". But it seemed that the cat really was not stimulated enough most of the day, so I suggested a second, to keep the first some company. But I told my wife that I really was putting my foot down on the second--my kindness and mercy have limits, after all! Well, Billy, you probably can guess what happened next, as the 2nd cat really was a little too "adventuresome" for the personality of the first, so, seeing that, I suggested a 3rd cat--a little younger, very kittenish, for its energy and playfulness. So now that I have put my foot down 3 times, it seems to be holding . . . .
  8. Have been persuaded by the many knowledgeable sources on this Forum that I need 2 subs, given the cubic footage of my listening area. My questions: 1. Do I want two subs identical/very close in their technical specs as possible? 2. Or, are there any thoughts and opinions about having one sub primarily for very low—primarily HT applications--sub frequencies (18Hz to ??? Hz), and the second sub primarily for a mid-bass range (???Hz to ???Hz)? 3. Do my fronts (KLF-30s)—going down to 36Hz, my center (KLF-C7), and my surrounds (KLF-20s) going to 34Hz make a difference? I really would like to/think that I should maximize their 12” and 10” speakers as much as possible. But, rather than attempting to answer my own questions, I really welcome the input of those with more experience. FYI, I am comfortable with some sort of DIY with flat packs or something along those lines, too.
  9. Well, it's about like having to put down Old Yeller. But, sometimes you just have to "man up", I guess. Though, I'll bet you have Old Yeller's son somewhere around to remind you, and get you over the heartache.
  10. Billy, can't you sell/substitute something else? Your first born or something? Anything? Have never heard any, but I love my 4.2s, which probably are reasonably close . . . .
  11. Flame, don't know if you would have wanted or needed any of these, but this past week saw KLF-10s, KLF C-7, and a LT-10 for sale in Minneapolis. $450.00.
  12. Get a good subwoofer going; a bunch of LFE will massage her right to sleep. Sure . . . .
  13. Say, is that a baby diaper changing station on the left, behind the KLF-10? Great idea, get that child accustomed to good sound early in life.
  14. Mystery, Sorry, can't answer your specific question. Am sure others with real knowledge will be along soon. Am listening to my 10s (just went on a road trip and brought home yesterday). Love them, too. Have them in a downstairs home office setting. Upstairs, I have the bigger brothers, the 20s and 30s. Wow! Looks like you have some mighty fine gear, too!
  15. "Calibrated"? What I used when I set things up on my Pioneer AVR was a microphone, and set the volume and distance. Listen on "extended stereo" most of the time, so I have more equal, enveloping dialogue and music. Means that I do not need to raise the volume as much in order to compensate for the distance of the fronts from my MLP. That, and the old "Mark 1 eardrum". I suppose that I am providing correct information when I mention a specific level or range of listening. The number I provide is what I see on my receiver. And, for just general listening levels of music, for instance, it often is about -35 to -33. Often, British accents will cause me to turn it up some to understand better. If I want to really appreciate some movie action, I will celebrate at -28 to -23. Please advise if I am using these numbers in an incorrect way!
  16. Pro and Metro, Good ideas. Feel like I'm getting somewhere. Given: the large cubic footage (approx. 6500 including the great room itself, the adjoining dining area to the side, and the pass through to the kitchen--addtl. footage) IF the Klipsch LT-10 with its 1 active and 2 passive radiators will work for "nearfield" I buy a DIY enclosed box for a, say 15" subwoofer, and put it at the back end of the room against a wall, and about 5' behind from where I sit, and 10' from where my wife sits, would that be likely to "fill the bill"? Would it matter that what I buy/build for box purposes, and match w/ an appropriate subwoofer is not the same manufacturer as the Klipsch LT-10 nearfield? Am I likely to have all kinds of soundwave difficulties, or is it something that has a high probability of working? Also, am wondering if I have the two subs for their different purposes ("nearfield" and general/greater room-filling power), is it possible to SAFELY and practically adjust their settings to be more active (relative to the volume of the other 5 speakers) when the signal is delivered? And to tone down to "normal" when there is no gunfire, explosions, Godzilla stomping around, and other such good stuff)? I think that if my wife feels she has to constantly raise her voice simply to make comments (all the time, not with the good sounds going off), then, I am likely to experience some "headwind" to the idea of the kind of sub experience I really would like. And the truth is that I am not into high volume for its sake, but rather only when the particular music or movie scene calls for it. Again, your thoughtful and specific comments are very welcome!
  17. Hmmmm, Pro, Interesting. Need to understand better, though: I have a 7.1 AVR (Pioneer Elite SC-35). Does "7.1" offer the opportunity for 1 sub--only? Generally, what is considered "nearfield"? If I am able to use 2 subs, might I use my newly-acquired Klipsch LT-10 (1 active 10" driver, 2 10" radiators) as the "nearfield" (within 3 feet of where my wife and I sit, and about 11 feet from where others might sit); Then add a "real" sub for placement against a wall/corner--maybe of the size that Scrappy is thinking (15" - 18"); You mentioned adding another sub "up front". Could I position it against the back wall, at the back end of the large room, looking forward I do appreciate the ideas that keep coming my way!!!
  18. Would like to have a good (spelled "b-i-g") SVS, but don't. Have a Klipsch Sub-10 subwoofer, and as of yesterday, a Klipsch LT-10 subwoofer.
  19. Scrappy, I like the idea of the vertical box, however, the 24" depth is an aesthetic issue. That is one reason I was inquiring about the Stonehenge, at 16" depth. Then, we get back to what appears to be the consensus: that I will be hard-pressed to get the HT effects I want (esp. at my lower listening levels) with "only" the 1 sub in my room . . . .
  20. Might a vintage Klipsch LF-10 (1 10" active, 2 10" passive radiator) change any minds, or be a worthy consideration? The frequency response is shown as 19Hz - 100Hz.
  21. If I bought/built one (1) to put along the back wall, behind the MLP, then probably about 40" would be pushing it (WAF).
  22. Metro Man, that is a very kind offer, and probably prudent for me to. Might I check with you as time slots come up from time to time, and see your availability? Am I reading between the lines that in no way is a single sub likely to do what I am hoping? Does it matter or make any difference in the answer if I am really concerned about areas outside or beyond the actual seating? Would a good 15" sub within 3' of the couches where most of the sitting occurs possibly do the trick? Kind of like the sinner looking for a "loophole" to get into Heaven. Probably does not exist.
