welcome to the Forum! You mentioned refoaming the Fortes. It is my understanding that the Fortes also have paper woofers. If they need to be refoamed they must have replacement woofers. If so, I would stay away from them.
  4. Minermark, They sound fantastic. I think the room is well suited to the Khorns. I have a ten foot ceiling and the 1:61 ratio is about perfectly met. The Khorns are about 12 feet apart. My weak link now is the Phase Linear 4000 per-amp. There is a faint hiss between tracks, but it is faint and it does not detract from the sound when playing. I am very happy. Khorns, pepper jack cheese and Guinness...it does not get any better. Called my assistant and said I was feeling too good to come to work today. She was a bit confused but, hey. That is a benefit to being partly retired.
  5. I would send the private jet for you, but I can't find the keys. I hate it when that happens.
  6. Since I work for myself and had only afternoon appointments, I blew off the morning. Now I am thinking of blowing off the afternoon, getting a case of Guinness and celebrating St. Pat's day!
  7. I went to an all boys high school. On St. Patrick's day the Irish would of course dress in green sport coats, but the Italians would come dressed in Back suit coats and red ties. There were the inevitable fights (mostly good natured if a bit bloody). During my Freshman year, I was coming back from gym class which was in a distant part of the school. I was met by three members of the Italian contingent. A fight ensued during which a few of my Irish classmates came to my defense. By the end, our clothes were all ripped up, noses bleeding and we looked generally messed up. My next class was Algebra taught by an ex-boxer (Brother Bazillian) who was one tough guy. As I walked into class and he saw me my blood went cold. I figured I was going to get the crap kicked out of me again (not an uncommon event when you went to a school taught by the Christian Brothers). He walked slowly up to me and said, "Hall...I only have one question for you. Does the other guy look worse?" I gulped and said, "Yes, Brother." he smiled, patted me on the head and walked away. That will always be St. Patrick's day for me.
  8. OK - My last self-initiated post on this thread: Just finished hooking them up - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  9. Thanks Budman, and I am glad it is over.
  10. Agreed...I was just pulling your chain. Good luck. I am sure they would be awesome if you had the right space.
  11. So you are saying that you would meet me half way to New York...say Missouri? Just sayin..
  12. Minermark, No, I wish I was kidding. I needed a car and a truck as the cost of a round trip truck rental was obscene. Gas for the truck (at about 9 miles a gallon) was no bargain either. As I bought them at around 3 pm on Friday and had to pick them up on Saturday, there was no time to try and figure out a more economical way to get them home. It was about 1,200 miles round trip Nonetheless, a guy in New Hampshire has a comparable pair and wants $4.500, so I guess I still made out pretty good.
  13. Ave Bona, Thanks, I really like them (even as furniture). They were triple wrapped in bubble warp, foam insulation and a comforter. Then they were firmly tied (thanks Brac) to the front header of a 12 foot rental truck. Your point about the roads between Sangerville and the Interstate is well taken. You obviously know the roads up there. I should not have done it, but I calculated the cost of getting them home. It was a bit of a shock! $250 Truck Rental (one way Bangor to Ithaca). It would have been about $700 round trip $275 Gas for truck $120 Gas for personal car (had to drive to Maine to get the rental truck) $50 Tolls $125 Hotel $75 Food $170 Loading costs $1065 Total Guess I will just think of it as a two day vacation in Maine.
  14. Ceptorm, They really aren't replacing anything. They are in addition to a set of Cornscalas which are on the lower level of the house
  15. Alex, I am going to use your B&K for now. I have gone a bit crazy over the past six weeks having bought Heresys, Cornscalas and now the Khorns. I like your advice. I will wait and watch for the right amp. Best, Earl
  16. Thanks TigerwoodKhorns. Maine was brutal. I can't believe all the snow they had. Moving the speakers out of the house was a real feat. Fortunately there was a moving crew there an Brac took charge of keeping them safe through snow and ice from the house to the van. It is currently 15 degrees in Ithaca (going down to 2 degrees tonight), although we do not have much snow.
  17. These are bad pictures. The wood looks like new even though these pictures do not show it. I am very happy with them. Now if I could just find a McIntosh tube amp and pre-amp for $125.
  18. Hi all, Fifty-two hours aftet I left Ithaca, the Khorns are nestled all snug in their beds (or corners). No damage, and they are still "pristine." Thanks again to Brac. I will hook them up on Tuesday as I will be away tomorrow. Life is good!
  19. Ceptorman Almost back. On the New York State thruway near Syracuse. Two hours left
