Absolutely. I surely wouldn't use my Cornwalls and LA scalas in a loud party type atmosphere.   Asking for issues IMO.

I don't know what kind of guests they might have but I traveled for a few years building night clubs. The nonsense we went through to make things drunk proof would defy belief.

I would make bases/stands to get the LaScalas up high enough to get the mid horns and tweeters higher than the heads of your guests. You could raise the Corns as well. Obviously, the subs could stay on the floor.

I would try that first befor buying more/different speakers.

True unless they are getting drunk and these are subject to being knocked over. Based on what I have seen in my shops poor acoustic environment I think the better Pro gear has much better ability to overwhelm a bad environment.

    To achieve what?

To hear more superlative,  descriptive  and eloquent commentary like........

And, like me, they are also music obsessives who care a great deal about fidelity.

How can you not admire and desire to hear more of this?

On a serious note the funny thing about all this is that if he can't hear a difference can you imagine how bad his source files might be? I guess when it is garbage in garbage comes out no matter how pretty the trash compactor.

Young musical talent has access to affordable gear that is much much better than ever before. So let's stay optimistic. John Lennon reportedly once said: "I'm an artist. You give me a ****ing tuba, I'll get you something out of it."

Yes and then they proceed to eke nothing of worth out of it. I think of a lot of the music from the 60's to the late 80's and the ability of many musicians from that time and compare it to this new low talent noise.  Lennon was an artist and a musician. Funny that you would quote someone from the golden era that could do these things. Today is like "Lothar and the Hand People" were in their day. New toys and meager talent.

Wasn't this suggested when you FIRST began making these replacement tweeters... I thimk so.

And it's a great idea, just as it was then

It is easy to get dragged into making things because someone thought they were cool and then you find out very few thought so and there you go with time and material sitting on a shelf doing nothing. It has become evident there is interest in this so now I will look into it.

  6. This leads to a question I have. Many of you it appears decide to time align these by putting them on top. Do you want me to come up with something for this using Walnut and Red Oak?

What is the height from the top of the speaker to the center of the tweeter for those of you who have done this?

  7. Walnut will change color over time. This is what makes it so hard to do veneer repairs since you have to stain or color the new Walnut to look like the old. I have read various things about doing this including using a UV lamp to get that kind of reddish tint color you see sometimes.

  8. First time I used a pro amp after using my old Onkyo it was a Peavey 800 something with that many watts. Percussion became much better and definition in all ways improved. I think it has more to do with being Pro gear and not home owner barely have the watts stuff that makes the difference. You would have been happy with a number of units from Crown I figure.

Thank you Dave A.  Have lusted for La Scala's since living with them in college.  From what folks have said these are another step up!  Be interesting to see if my set will have the standing wave breaker.

I was surprised to see it since some of the others I have had with that bass bin did not have it. They all sounded great and unless I had the two types side by side I  could not tell any difference based on memory. I am sure it improves them but you wont miss the baffle either.

It will be fun to read your response to getting these. You should see some of the comments I get back from my buyers. You are in for a revelation.

Mid-range horns next? Maybe tractrix horns with mumps? 😁

I am seriously considering the idea of mid range. No Mumps and not sure about final shape. Thinking of using 1" Baltic Birch from the drops I will have from my current SMWM project. Stack them and glue them and cut them.

  11. Reserved the room today I am indeed going. I live about 67 miles south of Nashville and if someone wants to ride with me you are welcome. Room for one in the van and the rest will probably be filled with stuff.

If there is interest and I can set them up I will bring my Super MWM's with me. If there is no interest or it is not possible to play them I will leave them at home.  I have no idea what to expect nor what goes on at these events so fill me in.

I've had a Fluke 77 for over 25 years. It won't do capacitance or freq., but has always worked. They have tons more models these days. Also used an 87 at an early job...

A lot ot the cheap other brands are as accurate but usually won't hold up as well. I used my Fluke for my work and felt it was worth the expense.

Yes better tools last longer and resist accidents better.

It breaks up standing waves.  I'm not that smart so I asked this exact question to Roy last time we were at the factory.   He said that they waste a lot of lumber trying and measuring different positions in the speaker until they find just the right spot to put it.

The references I found for these online all talked about what they do and the value of it but none claimed to have software or the ability to say exactly how to do it for a new speaker. Trial and error and testing each variation to find the sweet spot seems to be the only way.

And don't forget, it was also made from MDF. (see Spec. sheet on website).

When you say something you ought to at least try to be accurate. Unless of course your intent was to stir the pot which I would not rule out. In any case the spec sheet says Birch Plywood and MDF. I suspect the motorboards only in this case and it is amusing to see you not clarify this.

You're not dragging me back down that rabbit hole with you. Notice I didn't speak in absolutes because I haven't heard it. I am only speculating about what I would think. I am perfectly happy with my amp, so I really don't care.

    Shakey

Yes and the knobs on that amp are not pretty either. Reading the specs I would never have been interested in this BUT we do have to get to 100 pages. Like the Pinocchio click bait far more than the amp.
