A longer and/or wider horn might be able to get rid of the peak, but then the speaker would no longer be its "portable" size, which means it would be less popular for PA use, and probably for home use, too.

Does Klipsch make an LSI version of the II? I have two old beater LSI sets from the late 70's here that toured with the Oak Ridge Boys and let me tell you that MDF probably would not have lasted a week. The days of the  La Scala for anything but living rooms is over unless they offer a pro real wood version.

The birch plywood La Scalas did resonate and you could easily prove it by taking a set of pipe clamps and a couple of rags on the clamp feet to protect the wood and put pressure on the sides and the tone would clearly change for the better.

I've been curving all the combinations for Dave. You can't go wrong with the MAHL and DE-120. You won't want to give it back. LOL.

You are right Claude and that is exactly what happened to me this week. Got a money order and not the tweeters back yesterday.

Still waiting for them from DaveA .

Sorry about that. The guy who had them did not want to send them back and bought them and took a bit longer than I wish to tell me that. I have a set going to you today after you confirm your address by PM sent to you.

Simply the best speaker my ears have heard to date.

Well judging by the size of your sound room don't make the mistake of listening to MCM 1900's ;) The only thing I have heard in person to beat those. Cory has a set of Jubilees with some bass bins and it is an awesome system but I have to admit these 456 to 900 whatever systems are neck and neck with them where my tastes are concerned. I wish I could be there to see the expression on the buyers face when he gets them going.

I have had my 904/402 combination for 7 years. Twice I have purchased Jubilee's and put them in the place of the 904's and both times took the Jubilee's out and sold them. I have not found anything that sounds better in my room than the 904/402.

There is a reason those bass bins have survived intact as a design for so many years. These + really good horns are awesome systems.

  6. Folks if you are within 500 miles and thinking of these just stop and go get them. Awesome price for something that sounds better than you can imagine unless you have heard them in person before. I would already be in my van and these would be gone except for the way to lengthy drive in winter time. Stunning fidelity and superb presence and just blows away everything you will find in Veneer.  You have no idea of the sound stage these have for any genre.

FYI, Mr. Brand X told me he uses LSP CAD to do his networks, which is an $800 investment........not for the squeamish.

That doesn't even cover yearly renewal for good CAD design programs much less buying it to begin with.

Not sure if I understand your question.  What I do have is the Professional StopSaw with an Incra fence system.  I built a large 4x8 outfeed table that I can move around the shop and serves as an assembly table as well.  The cyclone is the Clearvue CV1800 with the large impeller and 5hp. motor.  I can tell you one thing.  I will never again work in a shop that does not have adequate dust collection.

The cyclone is loud, which is why I built a small space outside my shop to house the cyclone and my compressor.  Now I can work in the shop in a rather quiet environment.

Refering to your dust collector only and the rest was just a comment on a saw I had been looking at that had a 3hp dust collector with it.

Bill helped me quite a bit when I set up my dust collection system.  Well worth the cost to add that level of safety if you plan on doing a bit of woodworking.

What did you get?  Looks like that Delta Platinum unisaw with the roll around thing and additional extensions and a fold down side table is back up minus the 3hp dust collector. That's OK since I doubt I needed anything like that dollar sucking jet engine anyway.

  10. Tons of empty seats in all venues now with stupid high prices and whinny millionaires and people discovering all those things they used to do when they had a life pre-football actually are more rewarding when you get right down to it. I see the same with hockey and basketball as the prices are just over the top on the whole thing.

Quit being a tight asz and order up some A55-g's, its a nice improvement not as significant as the tweeter change but noticeably better.

Well I might consider that if it fit a 402 horn. The La Scalas I get are to fix and sell and people want the extras but do not want to pay you for them. They would rather spend more money as time goes on fiddling on their own. I can understand that as experimenting is part of the audio experience for many. I can sell the K-55-V soldered lug drivers for around $300 on ebay but never get that as an installed part of a system.

Recently, there was yet another "debate" on the subject of the audibility of modulation distortion in another forum.  One notable acoustician was claiming (once again) that it's inaudible and therefore, doesn't matter.  (Never mind that the author has also stated that be hasn't heard fully horn-loaded loudspeakers that are well performing, or that he doesn't listen to classical music, the type of recordings which I find to be the biggest discriminators of loudspeaker/room acoustics sound quality.)  This brought back to mind the words of PWK on his now famous three articles on modulation distortion in JAES (1969):

I believe that this thread opened on the subject of "inner detail" and transparency.

This has been my experience and the reason why I am heading towards a Super MWM and 402 horn. I have had lower bass with subs and things like KT-456's but nothing has the presence and clarity of those MWM bins of anything I have ever had in my shop.

Running the same top box stuff. Crites 120 tweeters, K-55 G squawker and the A/4500 networks. The La Scalas are now buttery instead of barky.

Using the dE120 on a new lens did the trick for the two La Scalas I have changed so far + re-capping the AA crossovers and all the shrill was gone. I have tried K-55-V soldered lug and not soldered and K-55-M's and while there are some differences the tweeter is what made them musical and not tiring after a while. Replacing those old cans also made a real difference as the ESR was pretty bad. I have read about replacing the diaphragm on the K-55's but the price of those is high enough I have not. I know I spend more money elsewhere all the time but somehow that much for those just irks me.

OK; problem was solved ... but have another question ... thought I would try it here before starting a new thread :)

The 510/691 combination is fabulous ... but, am trying a set with Forte I's.  The Forte's just seem to be "insufficient / tiny" when compared with my KPT-904 with the large dual bass bins. Thought of replacing the Forte's with a bass bin with maybe a single Pro Eminence Kappa Pro-15LF-2 15" ( https://www.parts-express.com/eminence-kappa-pro-15lf-2-15-cast-frame-driver--290-420 ).  Seems the "Pro" speakers just have a bit more oomph.  Any thoughts ??

    Thanks, Emile

Add-on ... this setup is in my "small" stereo room, so I'm looking for a "small" bass bin probably similar volume as the Forte's.  Still playing with crossover frequencies, so hopefully it will get better :D

Emile you do know you don't take the family sedan to the drag strip and expect it to compete with your funny car don't you?

Heritage is meant for home use, pro is for commercial. That being said Pro speakers sound great in home use. Home speakers are designed for sound and aesthetics. They are designed for the all mighty WAF. Pro speakers are not limited by looks. Solid black cabinets and usually heavy duty drivers. I have a pair of kp201 speakers which is a heresy II. However, the woofer in the pro speaker is a heavier duty which is designed for higher power. Although I have not A+B compared the kp201 to the heresy II speakers, I believe from what I read that the kp201 speakers sound a little better due to the woofer.

There is no doubt about that. I can do that comparison today in my shop and those 201's and older KP-250's with the K-42 woofers are the best for me, not the K-42-KP sound really musical over the stock Heresy..

I can dig the idea of big speakers and loud music.  ..Recreational use of devices meant to end lives?  ..Not so much.  Can't even fathom how one could be enthusiastic about such things.  I find them utterly depressing

Yep and we shoot Bambi and Thumper and Chip and Dale and Tom Turkey here and eat them too. Had 17 of Tom's girlfriends in the yard this morning. I am an active member of PETA or People Eating Tasty Animals. Stop in for a listen here in flyover country and have a Hickory smoked Deer burger guaranteed not to have any artificial anything in it range fed on my 56 acres of carbon sink forest and have a glass of real water from my cave spring without those big city additives. Forgot to mention no soy burgers though so be warned ahead of time.
