  1. Here you go. It was too late at night for me to get Wheel of Fortune on the hi-def TV in the attached photo.

Only you will recognize the Christmas ornament I put on top of the speaker. It's a $90 paper weight, otherwise known as a burned up dryer motor.

  2. Is $850 too much to ask for these? I suppose it's OK, since they are a family heirloom. :)

I am just "catching up" with the replies they are being posted so fast! At first I thought Beeker had posted that.

And yes, $850 is too much. You would have gotten more responses if you asked $200 and posted a pic of one of your speakers. I'll send you a pic of mine to use.

  3. I'm sorry, but that is freakin' hillarious!!! The guy wants $850 for them, but I think I can get them for $650.

Then I'll call my friend Mustang Guy, maybe we can do a road trip and pick them up together?

  4. Definition of "we."

Tonto looked the Lone Ranger in the eyes and said "What do you mean 'we' White Man?"

Please! This is not meant as a demeaning or insulting comment towards Native Americans. As I am Irish, English, Italian, Dutch feel free to modify the joke to encompass one (or all) of those nationalities. I tried and it did not work out for me.

LOL! It's an old joke, and the version I heard had the tag "what do you we, kemosabe? No insults, inferred, it's all good. :)

    http://americankabuki.blogspot.com/2012/10/what-do-you-mean-we-kemosabe.html

The bad guys have captured the Lone Ranger, have him naked on the ground, and are about to shoot him. "Do you have any last wishes??", one of them asks. Bring my horse, Silver, over here.", the Long Ranger replies.

They grant his wish and over comes Silver. The Lone Ranger whispers for a moment into Silver's ear. Then Silver disappears over the horizon like lightning. He returns in just a few seconds with a big, beautiful woman in the saddle. She hops off Silver, strips naked and in short order she and the Long Ranger enjoy themselves to the utmost, much to the delight of the bad guys. When they've finished, another bad guy says, "That looked like good fun. Do you have any other last wishes??"

"Yes ..bring my horse, Silver, over here one more time.", the Long Ranger replies.

Silver approaches, and the Long Ranger whispers into his ear, "You idiot! I said bring POSSE!"

  5. You beat me to it, Youthman!

When I was looking for mine a few months ago, they were running around $180, and I wouldn't buy one until the drop to $150, and I got one for the lowest price I had seen to that point, $139 from Amazon.

The Egg does that all the time time with their prices, bumping them up and down, but this $135 is the lowest I've seen.

    http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/May-0-2014/48HoursOnly-06/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL050614&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL050614-_-EMC-050614-Index-_-E0-_-HDDSSD&et_cid=7499&et_rid=2679987

Time to pull the trigger on that SSD, and don't forget to get an HDD docking station (or search Egg for "data transfer kit" for an $20 solution if you are going to clone the old HDD.)

Make sure your PC case will hold a 2.5 drive, or you will need a $6 adapter to hold it. Some cases already include these, so you might want to check.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817984021

If you do forget the mounting bracket, you can just Velcro the drive in. They only weight a few ounces and put out NO heat, and of course have no moving parts.

And make sure you have a SATA cable. Some DIY cases come with them, but with a brand name computer you will likely have to order what you need.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119231

You might need a power cable as well from the power supply to the SSD, so check inside your case to see what is there.

Then get back to us for some install tips. B)

  6. MAIN PHOTO: I dont know if my new(olympus about 14mp $50 at HHgreg) is hi resulution...I also dont know how to post pics?

I have tried and tried...I cannot get a picture to post

WHEN/WHY YOU FIRST HEARD OF KLIPSCH: I had a baby and was trading my car audio for home audio

WHERE & WHEN YOU MADE YOUR PURCHASE: From custom audio concepts Lima Ohio when I was having my 1st kid. Lived so many years in the dark from klipsch...Even as of recently have been accustomed to the use of the k402&k510 with jublees and many other rare high performance klipsch. The klipsch venture never ends! Although KLIPSCH does provide the most affectionate contentment in audio bar none.

    THE SETUP: Crown&bgw amplifiers

    MAIN SPEAKERS: Chorus ii (Black)

    CENTER CHANNEL (If applicable):kp250

SURROUNDS/BOOKSHELVES (if applicable): surrounds kpt2502c's/back surrounds Tangent by klipsch t5000's

    RECEIVER: Harman Kardon

AMPLIFIER (if applicable): Crown xls for mains and surrounds-Bgw750g for subwoofers

MEDIA CABINETS (if applicable): .Silver with glass sheves

ANYTHING ELSE?: Klipsch.................................with Radian 18" direct radiating subs

I went a solid 2 years buying and testing every single klipsch speaker I came across if indeed it was for sale...New and Used....I have narrowed my modest life now with still a very large KLIPSCH collection I cannot live without. From reference klipsch to heritage klipsch they all have a place in each and every space!

I must add...You name the speaker from a-z I have owned or/and tested it..Klipsch is home plate...When i went from a $8000(actually fairly modest) car stereo to home audio my first system was all klipsch...well i tried everything and i mean EVERYTHING....nothing and I mean NOTHING produced sound as did that first system i had that was indeed klipsch.

Out of more than 30 home theater setups iv owned i was only settling for(other brands) and still had in my mind that 1st klipsch setup that i had when leaving car audio. Once ebay came out i found it easy to get exactly what i wanted and have done exactly this at least 3 times. In them days I tried what looked good...what was the most expensive and what my friends were using. Still nothing produced sound like the original klipsch system i began with period.

Now being a part of the klipsch forum i have learned more than i ever knew was possible in audio and its all fact. Klipsch is home plate. Beyond a homerun. Nothing can compare to the true contentment klipsch brings me. I cannot sleep now without at least owning my klipsch collection. What i have stated in this paragraph is pure truth no bs.

Klipsch is a legend and what follows is the finest speaker with the best people on the planet. Bar none. KLIPSCH IS HOME PLATE. Its so glad to be at home in audio with klipsch.

Best regards to you on your audio venture.

I'll post my own story about owning Klipsch, and I hope I win.

But I'm telling you right now, after reading the post above, and if I do manage to get one, I'm sending my poster to Mr. Beeker. B)

  7. I would like to know where all my 9/16 and 1/2in sockets and wrenches are!!??!!!

No big deal on the 1/2 inch wrenches, you can use a 13mm.

I know this because back in my motocross days, I was always losing my 13mm wrenches! B)

  8. Confused. What does this gizmo have to do with audio?

You can use the gizmo to control certain audio devices, and send content from the internet or your home computer to your audio system. My Klipsch sub can be controlled via remote control.

I don't know about anybody else, but I am MUCH more comfortable buying off a Klipsch forumuite than some random stranger off Criag's List!

  9. Bill, like some of the others, I typically build my own computer and a few months back I did just that.

It's an i5 processor with 8GB memory (upgradable to 64GB), 2 GB Graphics Card, 1 TB SATA HD with Windows 7 64 Bit and two 1 TB HD in Raid Configuration for storage.

I'm usually simultaneously working in Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver while having Quickbooks open as well as sometimes 15 - 20 tabs in my browser and it's blazing fast with absolutely no hickups.

In most cases, adding memory is the cheapest and the best performance booster but in your case, as mentioned, increasing your memory will not be noticable until you get to the point where you are getting close to 8GB of used memory. If you only have a few applications open at the same time, you likely aren't coming close to using up all of your available memory. If you only had 2GB, I would say buy more memory.

Not sure how you do it on Windows 8 (have no desire to switch to it) but on Windows 7, hit Ctrl + Alt + Del and click the performance tab. You will see under Physical memory your total and avalable (unused) memory. Test this with the normal programs that you have open on a daily basis to get an idea of how much you are using. If you have 8GB of memory, your Total should say around 8 million K.

I have not moved to SSD but have read it's a great improvement in startup time on your computer and is extremely fast to access the data (ie Operating System). This would likely be a worthy upgrade but it's a pain to setup a new OS and move data, reinstall drivers, programs etc.

You are obviously a sophisticated computer guy, but I can tell you the SSD is probably made more for the apps like you use, than for what I do, which is more internet oriented these days.

You are right, it is a pain to setup a new OS, etc like you say, but after all the work, I think you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner. It's like getting a newer, faster computer.

Since you just built your system a few months ago, how much space did you use? The cloning software works really well and is seamless, so you might be able to simply migrate your system onto a new SSD. The ONLY caveat is that the cloning software is all or nothing, you cannot pick and choose the programs you want from the old HDD.

  10. HDMI carries both audio and video signals, the DVI uses the same digital signal as the HDMI, just no audio signal.

The "largeness" of the monitor (17", 24" 32" etc) is not the limiting factor of the video card, the resolution is, and its ability to put a lot of colors in the display.

I took this just now, so that is this post on the right monitor. The left is a 17" Sansung LCD running 1280x1024. The right monitor is a Samsung running 1980x1020, its native resolution. I am running Firefox full screen on the left, with a Windowed Firefox between the two monitors.

Because I like the print a little larger than standard hi-res gives me, I went to Control Panel, then Display and changed the default font from 100% to Medium, which is 125%. The other option is Larger, at 150%.

I presume you know that to make your print bigger in your browser, <Ctrl> <+> will make your print larger? or use <ctrl> <mouse wheel> to make the print larger or smaller.

    post-58280-0-78460000-1399312004_thumb.j

Are you running Windows 7? If so, you can run the monitors full screen, and just grab the blue bar at the top and drag them to where ever they need to go, you don't need to use the resize box in the top right anymore. If you get near the top of the screen, the app will SNAP into full screen mode. The advantage to running an app full screen is that it gets nearly all of the processing power dedicated to its task, as opposed to the Windowed apps, which divide processing power more or less equally, slowing down your primary task.

  11. Yeah, we ALL feel sorry for you, having to suffer with $13k worth of year-old top-of-the-line Klipsch speakers.

I certainly wasn't complaining. Not sure where that came from or if I was misinterpreting.

My apologies if I was out of line, the "suffering" comment was 100% tongue-in-cheek, I know you weren't complaining. It's like the "complaining/bragging" one would do if they complained their Lamborghini was too small, so they would just have to settle for taking the BMW to the White House dinner.

See the goofy, smiley face emoticon thingy at the end of my post? I was just messin' with you my friend. In West Virginia, that's how we treat you if we like you. :D

Edit: I just read Ethan's post, directly upstream. He said it better in one sentence than I did in two paragraphs! B)

  12. The SSD is BY FAR the best bang for your buck. The Samsung 840 EVO for $150 is the one you want.

You can do all the research you want, and find other units $20 cheaper, or the Samsung 840 Pro for $20 more, but I can save you some time. Just pick up the EVO because it's the best one for home use, and you can thank me later. B)

    +++

Notes: After a ton of research, I upgraded to the EVO 840 250 GB a month ago. It's like getting a faster processor, faster HDD, and faster video card all rolled up into one. I use mine for the Win7 OS and apps and put all the data including temp files on a 1TB drive.

The bundled software (you'll upgrade immediately from the web site) is excellent. To make the transfer from the existing software to the new SSD, you will need some method to connect to the USB port. Samsung offers a kit for this, I used a $20 docking station.

After formatting and due to the nature of SSD's and the "Turbo" mode of the EVO in particular, you will end up with about 210 GB useable.

If you get the 128 GB version (110 GB usable) for $80, you can put your OS (about 30 GB) and some limited apps like Firefox on it, but bigger is better so don't cheap out, buy the size you need right off the bat.

  13. My solder jobs look like someone squeezed solder out of a toothpaste tube. OTOH, I have the correct crimping tools, yet I have also managed to crimp so poorly I have squeezed the connecters so hard they have broken in half.

    Hope that helps! :D

  14. Thank you Phil, for the update, I always like to know what the solution is to a problem. It adds to my knowledge base. :)

It is really hard to determine when a device is defective without having two of them to test on. I have dealt with a LOT of tech support people who will tell you ridiculous things like "re-install your operating system" just so you will go away and they won't have to deal with you.

Kudos to Klipsch tech support for recognizing the problem, taking responsibility, and getting you on your way to enjoying your product.

  15. Yeah, we ALL feel sorry for you, having to suffer with $13k worth of year-old top-of-the-line Klipsch speakers.

I was thinking about buying the entire set, but I think now I'll just stick with my Bose 301's...in your honor, Mr. Beeker. B)

  16. It's troubling that your Klipsch software can't detect the device. Usually if that PnP technique doesn't work, installing it manually won't work either.

Make sure you have Administrator privileges, so you can install and change programs.

I suggest you turn off your Firewall, and be aware sometimes the Windows firewall is running, and a second firewall installed by your anti-virus software may ALSO be running.

I think there is a setting that will suspend the software firewall for 10 minutes for just this purpose. If that doesn't work, also try turning off your firewall and your virus protection temporarily, then turn them back on right away if this doesn't work. Remember, there is probably a firewall which is also hard wired into your router.

There is also a safety feature in Win7 (I think it's a Windows service) that makes the network undetectable. You want to make sure your network is "searchable" mode.

Quick Edit: Go to the Start menu, and at the bottom where it says "Search Programs and Files" type "msconfig." The msconfig.exe will appear as a menu choice, RIGHT CLICK on it and choose the second menu choice for "Run as administrator." This will give you a quick way to check which Services are running. You can also have fun seeing what programs Windows starts that you might not know about. :)

(I've only got a few minutes to post right now. If you can't find these features, post again and I'll try to provide specifics)

  17. Some day I will learn to ask you guys FIRST!

That is the exact reason I came to this forum just about a month ago. I had just acquired a pair of 20 year-old CF-4's and they needed major refurbishing. I had never done any refinishing before these speakers, so I was totally in the dark.

    https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/149241-epic-cf4-needs-overhaul/

I got incredibly good support and advice from the Klipsch forumites, and I didn't touch those speakers without consulting them on every little move. My speakers took a LOT of time, all sanded by hand, but I think they turned out pretty decent. You can check out my thread for recommendations on what grit sandpaper works for what purpose when working on this veneer.

Edit: I just saw Mr. Mustang Guy's post, directly upstream. He and I met "off-air" in the last week, and I got a chance to see his restoration work. THAT is the guy you want to listen to! B)

Secret coded message to Mr. Mustang Guy: "The dryer is drying the towels, the dryer is drying the towels."

Decoded, this means you were exactly correct about me switching the wires.
