IMO, Michigan has the worst bracket of any #1 seed. Illinois has the best shot at Final Four of any B1G team.

I don't know the Big 10 like you do, but I really like future pro Luke Garza from #2 seed Iowa in the East bracket.

Iowa would need to go through Zags to get to the final.  Gonzaga was looking like a world beater in the early part of the season but after their most recent Covid protocol a few weeks ago they have looked vulnerable, being behind by double digits in a couple of late season games.  I'll take Iowa to get to the Final Four.

    Let the March Madness begin.

    -------------------  March Madness 2021  -------------------

    ==========================================

My WVU Mountaineers (18-7) are a 3 seed in the Midwest and play 14 seed Morehead State (23-7).  This could be an upset special as WVU lost 4 of their last 5 games and were knocked out in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.  They play Friday on TruTV at 9:50p.

On the positive side for WVU the Midwest looks like relatively weak bracket, no Zags or Baylor.  Illinois is 1 and Houston is 2 in the bracket.

First Four play-in round to the 64 team bracket on Thursday.  By far the best opening round I've seen, UCLA vs Michigan State.  Tickets available as low as ...$264?!

Any perspectives on the price range that would be considered reasonable for a set of La Scalas in good condition?

There some guys in this forum who are really good at valuing speakers.  I wrote prices down and put them in a spreadsheet.  Feel free to download.

FYI you are in a market in Texas that is typically higher than my spreadsheet average.  If you add about 20% you will get a good ball park price in your area.

In general LS's range from about $1000-1500.  The average is $1208, Good Condition with Type AA crossovers, 1972-82.  For a pristine pair they will be at the upper end of the price range.

  5. It's been since the last century that I've owned a turntable.  Mine had a ground wire both on the TT and the AVR.  I know if I didn't have that ground wire connected the sound was awful.

Does the TT have a manual?  As @Marvel suggested, I wonder if it gets plugged into the Phono section of the AVR or into an Aux connector?

What's wrong? Is there still not enough power to drive the speakers?

First of all, welcome to the Klipsch forums.  For all questions Klipsch you've come to the right place.  Good people here with expert knowledge on nearly all things Klipsch.

Your Yamaha AVR is a modern one and should drive the 5000F very easily. I agree with @Marvel directly upstream ^^^ that there is something going on with your source.  Try playing your speakers through another source, a CD player or even built-in tuner if you have one.  That should help you trouble shoot.

Whoa! When I first got in the hobby back in the late 90s I was only into movies and then I bought my first concert video and never listened to two channel again. I have an embarrassing collection of multichannel music now that is my favorite genre. Anyway, my first couple of AVRs i was able to hook up 2 sets of side surrounds, one for movies and the other for music so I came up with this: post-4218-13819266726854_thumb.jpg RF-3 Side Surrounds for

What kind of crazy person would but side surrounds on top of their speakers?!?  😄

FYI this was my failed attempt at a poor man's Atmos when I set the RS-62's on their back and pointed them up.  Fail!  lol

EditNow that I think about it, I think I put the RS-62's on top of the RF-83's (see pic ^^^) and configured the 62's as Front Heights.  I think this one actually worked pretty well but it ruined imaging and gave me a pretty wide sound stage.  Man, was it ugly, even for me!

I have the 9.2 Klipsch Library Home Theater listed below and thinkin' about moving to 7.2.4 sometime this year.

I like the attention to detail in your setup.  👍

I'm not sure how you would mount an RS-3 for an Atmos speaker but I like your willingness to try a speaker setup that is out-of-the-box thinking.

When I try that it doesn't always work out so good, like my bright idea to bi-amp using the RF-83's bottom section and the HF section from the RP-600M.  Bzzzt!

Big time fail. The bi-amped Frankenspeakers sounded worse together than either pair did by themselves.

I used bipolars for the side speakers for quite awhile.

When I changed to monopolar, the difference was dramatic...for the better.

I've heard that.  It seems like whoever is in charge of determining specs for surround sound systems has now transitioned away from the bi-poles.  I wonder what changed?

I have the strong RS-62's for side surrounds in a 5.4 setup and I have some RP-600M's that could be pressed into side surround duty if need be, but jeez they sound so good I would hate to pull them from the Mancave TV 2.1 system.  I really love the 600M's.

Thank you.  I divided 1700 by 3 for 567 each.  I'll document them at 1134 pr and make a note on the fact this was a sale for 3 each.

Thanks for your sales info as well Jim.  Noted.

FYI:  The average before I added these two sales $875.  After it was $956.  About twenty confirmed sales.

    Well I've emailed him

I read the ad.  He is insinuating he paid 3K for the pair via Critchfield.  He had them a week and then he said he's decided to "go another way?"  I dunno.

There are people with disposable income who can do that so it's not not a crazy story.  Certainly uncommon, but not crazy.

Carl ^^^ knows the questions to ask, so we'll see.

Dave, OSU might just be able to help Huggy out since we have Illinois this weekend.  Saturday @ 4 on ESECPN.  They'll have their legs back after last week.

We could use the help.  Joe Lenardi dropped us from a #2 seed to a #3.  We don't want to go to a #4 seed because in the quarter final brackets #1 plays #4, and 2 plays 3.  It would be nice to get that #2 seed.

i used 12 bags of the extra-fluff sheet of poly batting.  it looks like what you'd use to make a quilt.  is this ok?

You used polyfil, that's the right stuff.  I've done a few DIY speaker kits but there are many out there who know more than me.

    7 hours ago, MercedesBerater said:

this is what i used - they had it in smaller sections for $4.97 each.  fit each section between bracing absolutely perfect.  used a whole roll folded over itself to size for EACH brace cavity.  6 bags down each side. every wall is covered except the front woofer inner wall.

It sounds like what you got fit your project perfectly.  Can't ask for more than that.

does anyone know the effect of polyfill?  i read somewhere that in large(r) enclosures it isn't as effective as small(er) enclosures and is kind of like a 25% increase in box volume.

does this seem like a fair guess on what some polyfill will do?

then the question is... how much?

The rule of thumb is open cell foam for ported, polyfil for sealed.  Use one pound of polyfil for each Cuft of box.  A 3 cuft box will use 3 pounds of polyfil.

I've used polyfil in the bottom of my ported CF-4, OEM two 3/4" sheets of foam on top.  The result was a lower pitch, tighter bass at the expense of some efficiency.  Well worth the tradeoff for my slightly nasal sounding CF-4's.

    +++

I presume you know Walmart has polyfil?  You can get it in ten pound boxes or enclosed in a pillow if you choose.

This will feature #4 Baylor vs #6 WVU, my guess on the rankings come Monday.

Baylor at 18-1 dropped one spot to #3.  Still above #4 Illinois at 18-6.

In the AP Top 25 WVU jumped 4 spots to #6, their highest ranking of the year.  They jumped up 8 spots in the Coaches Poll.

There are some real differences this week between the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.

WVU and Baylor Tuesday, what are you thinking?

WVU gave #1 Gonzaga a run for their money early in the season, losing by 5.  That was then, this is now and our big stud center later left the team and now is at Kentucky.  Huggy bear had to pivot and turn a game plan which featured a huge inside game with a monster rebounding edge to one that now features the guards shooting a lot of 3's.

WVU has a real shot at this and I'm not being a homer.

Baylor is coming off of a 3-week Covid layoff.  The consensus is it takes about 3 games to get back to peak performance and Baylor was shaky in their first two.  WVU will be that third game.  Baylor is coming off their first loss of the year, to Kansas.  Kansas' last loss was to West Virginia at the WVU Coliseum.

    https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30977344/scott-drew-says-no-2-baylor-lacking-rhythm-conditioning-loss-kansas-covid-19-pauses

This will feature #4 Baylor vs #6 WVU, my guess on the rankings come Monday.  WVU is playing the last three makeup games at home before the Big12 tourney.  There will be a few fans allowed, but not 14,000.  Still, playing at home counts for something.  We have a good shooting team and that counts for something.

I'm picking WVU in a close one with the winning score in the 80's.

    And yeah, I'm being a homer.  🤣

    MSU/Maryland up now.

Sparty in trouble.  Down 8 to the Terps with about 7 min to go.  Spartans can't score, not the same as teams in the past but at this point they need stops.  They have got to get this one if they want an invitation to the Big Dance.

A victory this afternoon will help Sparty’s NCAA tournament hopes tremendously.  We shall see if they’re worthy.

It looks like Sparty is currently among the First Four Out.  If I'm reading the chart correctly their problem will be that they will have to jump over 3 others directly above them to make the Last Four In.

It’s a cliche, but one game at a time now.

It will be a hot mess for the tournament committee.  I hope they loosen up and expand the field this year.

The NCAA just announced that once the tournament starts, if a team drops out then that's it; no substitutions.
