  1. Anybody ever try a setup with all RC-7's or KLF-C7's. Front, left, center, and all surrounds the same (THX style), everything on the same Target or Lovan stand. Use a Reference 8 or 10 or 12 line level in and out for each left and right speakers in the corresponding corner for low end music in 5.1 or 7.1. Then a SVS for the .1. I have always wanted to do that with the Heresey II's. Now don't go stealing my Heresy version, but you can use the C7 versions. I just think that would look so awesome! The room would have to be dedicated to just sound, but what else really matters? I would kind of look like the new THX system Klipsch is hinting at, but using dipoles for surrounds. Maybe you should just wait and see what that line does. It looks hot!!!!
  2. Yeah J-M, I am originally from Mayville, WI. I Just graduated from The University of Wisconsin Whitewater. And I plan to move to chicago in a month to work for an asset valuation company. I remember I applied for a position at Klipsch but I never heard from them... my resume must have got lost in the mail... right... (maybe I'll end up appraising their stalled inventory of "ticking time bomb" promedia systems of 2002 somewhere along the line). Anyways! I have been a fan of all things audio all of my life, seriously. I remember getting an old York system for my birthday when I was like 7 and my brother and I would take turns trying to knock things off of our mom's walls buy tweeking the EQ's and using different speaker placements. By 12 I had replaced the low end drivers and crossovers. Then came car audio, then I heard Klipsch... and thats all she wrote! Can't wait to meet you guys/girls(if any)!
  3. I'm in!!!! lt me know the details. Todd Gourlie
  4. What Bit and sampling rates do SACD's perfom at? Once a song is compressed (eg. wave to mp3) can it be decompressed to the same "quality" or a higher "quality." sound? I know you can resample it and convert it to whatever you want, but will it only have the same "sound quality" as the mp3 format it was compressed to? I hope you get what I mean. What my thoughts are, is that I can rip songs off of a cd in wav. format, and resample them at a huge rate and put them on a CD / DVD that will play in a DVD player or a SACD player. I am guessing I could do it, but it will not be "true" DVD or SACD quality sound. let me know if my thinking is correct. blah blah blah..... I hope there is some techy out there that can help my thinking. Thanks
  5. Just want to see you types of music people like to listen to most on their Heritage monsters! favorite type: or favorite songs: I'll try not to say "everything" although usually true. I like songs with a wide dynamic range, "runaway" by Janet Jackson is a good one. Her greatest hits cd sounds great. I also love punk acoustic songs. I love it becuase the singers usually don't have that great of voices... It actually sounds like a real person singing, and they don't have a huge reverb or "spacious" effect on their mics. Also the guitar usually sounds so real. They still use a lot of power chords even with the acoustic, so their is a lot of sliding and finger action that the heritage line picks up great!
  6. My Heresy II's were made in 88. Do you think spending the little money for new tweeter and midrange diaphrams would make a difference. They don't sound bad, I guess I am just bored.
  7. To get that chapter out of there. FIrst I would use DVD Decrypter to rip the movie in IFO mode. Through IFO mode the program will automatically select the Chapters of the movie. All you have to do is deselect the chapter you don't want included. From there you will have just the movie without the chapter. But now the tricky part... you have to re-author the IFO files. You may have two options. You could use IFOedit (free) and go through and re-author. Use the tutorial, it's pretty complicated, too much for me to go into depth about. But here is the jist... VOB extras(strip streams etc.), region free, get VTS sectors... yeah little complicated. Then use IMGtool to create an image file you can then burn using DVD decrypter. Or you can use DVDlab (i don't think it's free. This has a nice GUI type operation. Really easy. All you would have to do is drag and drop the VOB (movie) files you ripped from DVD decrypter into the GUI screen. Then DVDlab will create new IFO files for you and DVDlab will also burn your DVD. Any questions? I have made a nice demo disk for myself. I have taken demo clips from a whole bunch of movies and put them onto one. ie. All of the Dolby Digital, dts, and THX demo screens. I even have ones in spanish. Also all of the loud clips from the movies I have. Now instead of loading new disks every I want someone to "listen to this" I just put in my demo disk.
  8. If you guys are looking for something to take all those Klipsch and SVS subs and put them thru the ringer.... Get "The Core." It's a pretty unrealistic movie, but the bass track on this DVD is insane!!! Some chapter notes: Testing of the laser in the salt flats Destruction of the golden gate bridge When the ship lands on the bottom of the ocean (end) These bass lines are loud and deep!!! Check em' out if you haven't already. I know the DVD came out quite a long time ago, but I didn't rent it till tonight. Nobody home... had it up 1/4 ways, door shut, let er rip!
  9. So these AK-3's and 4's used in the new production K-horns are not as good as these ALK networks? If not why is Klipsch selling them with the AK-3/4 network?
  10. I have a pair of 89 Heresy II's, serial # 8830257 ,8 type EE crossover I believe. Out of all of my years here on the board I never really got the ALK crossover deal. I always loved the sound of my Heresy's so I always thought I had the best possible. I am also in the market for some k-horns, preferable new! What crossover do the new k-horns have? What is the +'s of the ALK's?
  11. I strip all streams and extras as well as menus. The exact copy of the movie only usually fits on the 4.7 disc. I never watch the extras anyways. the movie itself is usually just around 4GB. But long movies like the matrix reloaded don't fit. Then do they still compress the picture? If so do you know how? It can't be total frames or frames per second cause they are the same.
  12. I have DVD X Copy Express, and DVD X Copy(useless). DVD X Copy Xpress makes sure the movie fits on one disk. No menus etc. The movie by itself will usually fit on one disk, with no compression what-so-ever. but backing up The Matrix Reloaded and The Italian Job, the movie was 5.1GB which won't fit on one disk 4.7GB. DVD Xpress somehow "compressed" them to fit almost exactly 4.68GB. Now I put the originals and the back-ups into IFOedit and other DVD software to check Frames per second, Frame size, total frames, bits per second, sampling rate, etc. and they are all the same. I don't know how Xpress did it. I don't know how it works, but I know why it works.
  13. I want some K-horns bad! It's just that I can't find a place that sells them where I can also listen to them to. People can order them for me, but before I drop all that cash I at least want to hear them. I never have heard a k-horn yet! All because I cannot find a place that has them. Tweeter in chicago no longer carries them either. Any place in chicago or milwaukee would be fine. Any help!!!!!
  14. yeah those wave tubes can be cool. If you are talking about what I think you are. I f you drill holes in the top of the tube every 1 inch or so, cap the end and use a hose connected to the tube and a natural gas line to fill it with a flamable gas. Light the holes on fire, and you can use a sine generator to produce a cool looking candle (showing the nodes and antinodes of the wave form. You can also find out what frequencies (harmonics or overtones) are supported by the tube.
  15. I guess I just like breaking things!! I want to break a wine glass with sound. I know there was a post a couple of years ago about this from a teacher that wanted to also do the experiment. I can't find that post anywhere, if anyone knows about it or has tried it post a reply. I have all of the equipment. mic and oscilloscope, wave generator, amp, and numerous speakers. I am shopping for a good glass to do this with. One that rings really good will work best. By tapping or rubbing the finger on the lip. The longer and louder the glass supports the ring, the better chance I have of breaking it. Measure the frequency the glass supports with the mic and oscilloscope (I'm guessing around 6,000Hz). Use the wave generator with an amp and speaker to produce that exact sine wave. sustain the wave for a couple of seconds and the glass should break. What kind of dB are we talking here??? I heard of 90dB from a science website. I find that hard to believe. I'm guessing a speaker with a high sensitivity (96 or above)(no chance in H3LL I'm gonna use one of my Klipsch speakers to do this), and roughly 50Watts from an amp. Anyone have any suggestions? This is gonna be fun. Fun with hearing protection!!!!
  16. Your spider suspension may have broke. I you remove the woofer and look at the back through the basket you should see a (usually) yellow spider. This centers and suspends the voice coil, along with the rubber surround. If this is broken or damaged on one side, the voice coil does not stay centered on the pole piece. One way to check without removing the woofer is to tap around the woofer without it playing. Tap close to the rubber surround on the paper cone. If you hear a click or a "brat" (I think) that may be your problem.

  18. Does Klipsch sell a replacement black Heresy II grill? If so who do I need to contact? Much thanx!!!
  19. Thanks for the info. I will check into that system. How much difference can you tell with an amp and pre-amp, rather than just a reciever? What are some of the advantages etc. that make them better? thanks
  20. $500 would be ideal, but I'm sure would put out around $1,000 if I thought I was getting a great deal. And if say the reciever was upgradable like the top ONKYO. I'm looking for the cleanest power cause those heritage speakers will play the lowest hisssss when the volume is turned up. I also suppose I would like it to have a 6.1 option or a 7.1 option. I have a lot of two channel stereo recievers laying around if it is 5.1 and has an output for the 6th or 7th channels. I'm also looking for power around 100Watts per channel. I have no knowledge of tube amplifiers other than they sound great with music. Are they ok for Home Theater? If so, is there any way I could fit a tube setup under $1,000? I am just kind of curious what others thought worked well with their heritage line. GOTTA LOVE THOSE HORNS!!!
  21. I will be purchasing a new amp/reciever for my heritage speakers this summer. I say Amp/Reciever cause if I can find a reasonably priced seperates I would get them. If not then I am looking for an quality reciever that would not shame the heritage line. ???ONKYO, DENON, H/K, MARANATZ??? any suggestions? Thanks
  22. What kinds of Theile/Small parameters are ideal for a horn like the LaScala. Obviously you need a high sensetivity. But what about Qms, Qts, and Qes. Since I want my LaScala to go LOW so I am also looking for a low Fs, correct? Does anyone know what the K-77-E specs are. I want to get pretty close to the bass from the original but I really don't want to spend a lot. I'd rather have them just be loud and go low, than be as smooth and quality as the 77's. Does anyone have any suggestions. I may end up getting the 77's if there are no others. I know there is no substitution for great woofer in these folded enclosures, but I am just a poor college student. If I would spend 100's, I would just go all out and get a used pair off ebay. Thanks for any help.
  23. Is it possible to build the horn, see how good it fits together, then put the woofer in? It looks like putting the woofer in through the bottom after completed would be a little tough. I suppose it could be done though. I don't know, I'm just rambling. Well see.
