  1. Are the La Scalas only for movies or are you looking for great sounding music as well? In my experiences with 1970s vintage belles and khorns, music doesn't sounds good being played through a home theater receiver. If you were looking for great sounding music, I'd look for a dedicated stereo receiver with an amplifier switch so the La Scalas could go back and forth easily and safely from home theater to stereo.

I build all of my Heritage crossovers to the AA configuration, with very good caps, new coils, new autotransformers.  I listened to the Crites A4500 a while back, and gave it about two weeks.  I much prefer the AA for the tonal balance (admittedly with my somewhat senior ears.....)

Are you specifically referring to belles, Scalas, and khorns, or do you put AA crossovers in heresies and Cornwalls? I don't understand enough about crossovers, but I always wondered why heresy and Cornwall crossovers were so different when the mid and tweeter drivers are the same between the five different models (of the early time frame).

  3. In my experience, cables absolutely can make a difference. My wife and I had upgraditis this summer and wanted to get the main system to a new level. We demoed several different integrated amps, power conditioners, cables, etc. With the first few things we tried, we didn't notice any differences. When we spoke to the owner of the audio store, he said to take these power cables and interconnects, if you don't notice a difference, something's wrong. I don't remember the brand, but they made the system so freaking bright that my system that we couldn't stand it. When I brought them back, I told him about how bright they are, he said great, now we know your system is capable of revealing differences in cables.

Anyone that is looking, cash and carry is a no brainer here.   Rare. Won't see em again here for this price in this shape. Get em if you want em. Don't regret it later. Poor condition, regular la scalas in CA go for this asking price...  be forewarned....

Thank you for the plug, I appreciate it

The knobs on the crossover are really only for handling gain mismatches when using different amps for HF and LF.  They are not meant to be tone controls.

I understand this, but it's not like there is a screen read out to look at numbers to match the amps perfectly. You adjust to them to sound correct. The amp these were hooked up to last week was a Linn 4 channel amp, so they obviously matched perfectly, but you wouldn't just put the LF and HF knobs all the way to the left, middle, or right since they match, it comes down to how it sounds. All the way to the left and the sound is too thin, too much to the right, overbearing, etc. I know they aren't tone controls, but you almost use them like they are.
