  1. Get a good quality brush and one can of your favorite color paint. Go at it boy and don't make a mess. BB ------------------ eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-17-2002 at 07:23 PM
  2. Anybody remember Yamaha speakers with a woofer cone shaped like a grand piano? It was advertised to reproduce the highs and the lows just like a piano. I always wanted one of those massive Crown open real machines. BB ------------------ eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-17-2002 at 03:49 PM
  3. I had probably three sets of the Koss Pro-4AAs, they sounded good but the wiring inside always fell apart. I had one of the first outboard Dolby processors for my Panasonic cassette deck. That was pretty bad. Remember the little DBX expander you could put in line, that was interesting. I must have blown four tweeters in my Braun 810s with my two strapped Crown D-150s, IC-150, and OC-150. I loved meters. We need more meters on things today, just for the fun of it. I used to sell my old equipment to my high school math teacher. I liked him but he was still a tough grader. At least we didn't have to argue about wires though. Wasn't much to pick from. ------------------ eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-17-2002 at 02:53 AM
  4. I agree with TheEAR, ten or twenty thousand dollars will buy a fine sounding solid state amp. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-17-2002 at 02:10 AM
  5. Those are JBL L-200s. Only made them for a little while. They didn't sell well. BB ------------------ eat your vegetables
  6. Audry, Audry, Audry. What have you done? BB ------------------ eat your vegetables
  7. We had a pretty good Radio Shack over here in the 70s. They dabbled in some of the better stuff in the back room. Altec, Pioneer, JVC. Remember the horrible Utah speakers? BB ------------------ eat your vegetables
  8. All you ProMedia victims should DEMAND your money back. To hell with this warranty crap. Even if your speakers are working you have defective product via faulty design and manufacture. BB ------------------ eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-16-2002 at 11:20 PM
  9. Ah yes the famous Zero 100. Remember the big EPI Towers, Phase Linear, Ohm Fs, Thelma Houston, $4.00 records, the Watts Dust Bug, and Advent speakers. BB fini- You look like a sandwich. eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-16-2002 at 10:18 PM
  10. That thread about the Heils got me missing the good old days. I remember L-100s, a beautiful Marantz reciever, Phillips turntable and Maynard Ferguson real loud. Anybody else got some fond old memories. BB eat your vegetables This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-16-2002 at 09:02 PM
  11. Has anybody had any experience good or bad with the Heil AMT. I remember some old ads with a watermelon seed but never heard them. What do they sound like? BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-14-2002 at 10:50 PM
  12. It's time my friend to drink from the well of the electron tube. Electric gutars with tubes are so sweet. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-10-2002 at 01:39 AM
  13. Hi mdeneen, Thank you for the carbon dating results. The amp takes about twenty minutes to warm up well, then it's dead quiet. I really like the phase switch, it makes a big difference on some recordings. I run the VCR, FM, CD,and phono through it so it's really getting a workout. The transformers are nice and big for an amp this size, maybe that's why it sounds so good. My Conrad Johnson and McCormak are sitting on the shelf. I'm just having too much fun with these old tubes. The sound is wonderful and I am no push over. Thanks again, BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-07-2002 at 09:30 PM
  14. The output tubes are 7355s. Not too common. BB
  15. Does anybody know how old my Harmon Kardon A-500 integrated is. Late fifties? Sixties? Please check out my image. Thanks. BB
  16. Thanks Sparky, I think it's time for some wire upgrades to my rb5s. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-06-2002 at 12:04 PM
  17. Hi Pinch. The rf5s have a different stronger compression driver than the rf3s and also a larger horn. Interestingly though the smaller horn rf3s have a lower crosover point (1950htz) while the rf5s with the larger horns are crossed up around (2500htz). I don't really understand why. I'm pretty sure they used to cross the rf3s a little higher. Anyway I bought rb5s a while back because of the lower crossover point that they had, I wanted more music coming from the horn compression driver, that's the sound I like that is what makes Klipsch speakers so special to me. Check out the comparison shop function on the Reference products page. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-06-2002 at 11:41 AM
  18. If all this digital copy protection becomes real, cassette decks might have a resurgence in popularity. I kinda like em anyway. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-06-2002 at 02:20 AM
  19. Here it is. It's an A500. I'm not really sure how old it is though, maybe 40 yrs. Anybody know? BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-05-2002 at 03:16 AM
  20. DNTBY4N, Mine is framed and hanging over the sofa in the listening room. I will always have fond memories of those L-100s. BB Memorex was Ella Fitzgerald busting the crystal with that high C. This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-05-2002 at 01:34 AM
  21. Matthew, I can't stop bragging about my thirty year old Harmon Kardon tube integrated that sounds incredible with my RB5s. A smooth integrated seems fine with the small Reference speakers. BB
  22. Shoot, I don't really want to start taking apart my almost new speakers. Any other ideas. BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-04-2002 at 07:52 PM
  23. I'm curious if the new design is a true compression driver with a phase cap or some other design that is very different. Is it a true compression driver in the traditional sense. I love my Rb5s but I want to know what I have under the hood? BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 12-28-2001 at 05:47 PM
  24. I don't really care for dual woofers, even with the progressive crossover. BB Thanks for the pics Kenratboy. This message has been edited by Big Bean on 12-28-2001 at 05:20 PM
