You can layer DPL2x over DD an DTS for great 7.1 sound also.

Right now a Yamaha 5760. I have the new 4600 on order but it will be paired with a B&K amp.

Have you set your levels properly with a spl meter? If your levels are too high then that would be a factor also.

What kind of background noise? Can you hear it from seated position or just putting your ear to the speaker?

I believe the ref 200.2 is around $1200 to $1300. You can check audigon for used amps.

Start with a good 2 channel amp especially if you upgrade to 7s. Then see how well the receiver does with the rest of your speakers. Should be an improvement with the load of the 7s moved to the amp.

A receiver or pre/pro with room correction will also help.

Have you thought about adding an amp instead of getting a new receiver?

Check your speaker wiring at both ends. Also check your interconnects to see if one has a short in it.
