  1. I'm leaning towords slam for movies, although I'm building this system with music as a priority. My thinking, and correct me if I'm wrong cause that's why I'm asking, is with the RF7s I'll have 4 fast 10 inchers for music.I listen to very litle rap/hip hop/dance, and no pipe organ music. Whichever receiver/universal combo I decide will be connected with i link. Is this line of thinking correct or way off. Edit:How low will an RSW15 actually go in a room?
  2. Don't forget about speakers that are rated at 8 ohms but dip down to 2 or 3 ohms. The wise members of this forum recently educated me on this.
  3. The setup in the attached pic was part of an email my wife sent entitled 7 reasons to say holy s$%^. I told her that would be our house someday . Does anyone recognize the setup?
  4. I'm now waiting till the new Yamaha RXV 4600 is available and buying it and my Rf7s together. But a 5890 will run the 7s nicely for a receiver. You really need to go out and listen to as many of these choices as you can and see which combination sounds the best to you.
  5. As some of you know, and have been very helpful, I'm finalizing the choices on my short list for a system I'm getting ready to buy. I would like a RSW15 but I don't think I'll have the room for it with RF7s in my current house. So I'm looking at the RSW12 or the PC Ultra. I do have room to stack 2 RSW12s. All suggestions and advice appreciated.
  6. Yamaha makes great personal watercraft and motorcycles, and they designed the engine in my car. All are very musical.
  7. Cool. It's good to be anal about receiver choices. You are certain to get exactly what you like best. And I really like my Denon. I guess I'm anal like you cause only 2 things on the Yammie really edged out the Denon. And they are not major. 1rst like I said, I thought the new Yammie had a little smoother sound in my room. And 2nd, when enhanced surround on the Yammie is applied over the DD or DTS track the sound is fuller and draws you in more. I guess that's the best way to put it. I'm not really sure how to put it into words. But one of Yamahas specialities is DSPs and surround processing. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend Denon over Yamaha to someone. Both are excellent products. And as you realize, I'm not stuck on one brand. Right now I'm planning on the 4600. But when I do my final listening I may find something I like a little better in a Denon or Pioneer.

I see in a previous post from last year you were looking at Krell and B&k--you surely didn't go from one of those to Yamaha, did you? {edit:What is the difference between "THX Ultra 2" and "THX Select 2?"} ---------------- I've been narrowing down system choices for 2 years like I was saying in my most recent thread. I was originally looking at B&K and Krell seperates with RF7s. But I've since regained interest in cars so some of my system budget has gone into wheels, tires, suspension, and exhaust parts that I installed on my car. The loss of the extra money from the budget brought me from seperates to mid range receivers. I can live with the comprimise since I have 2 decently costly hobbies going at the same time. I was looking at the Pioneer 56Txi because I wanted i link and Yamaha's only offering was the Z9. Now that they will have a receiver in my budget range I will stay with Yamaha. Waiting so long has been a mixed blessing. I shot some of my budget on car parts. But I've discovered that I can be perfectly happy with a good mid range receiver paired with some of the best speakers ever made, RF7s. As far as what I switched from. Well TDK you've beeen very helpful to me in my system thread so I hate to tell you this. But I switched from a Denon 3802 to Yamaha. To me the new Yamahas have a smoothness to the sound with music that I didn't hear with the 3802. Coupled with how well the Yamaha performs with movies I decided to stay with the Yammie. But I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend Denon. I don't know a lot about the different thx ratings but I think ultra II is the highest. And using the i link thx ultra II processing can be used on multi channel music from SACD and DVDA to send music to the back surrounds in a 7.1 system Sorry for the long winded post.
  9. I'm one of the very few that switched TO Yamaha. Which has to do with why I'm excited about the new 4600. I'll be getting one this summer. But I also agree that Pioneer, Denon, and HK also make excellent receivers. There is something good for everyone.
  10. I think when I put my new system together this summer the Pioneer 56Txi just got knocked out of the running. I was looking at the Pioneer because I wanted i link and nothing was available from Yamaha except the Z9. But now there is. Looks like it will be a 4600 with a 59Avi and 2 RF7s.
  11. Yamaha has anounced a new mid priced highly loaded receiver. The RX-V4600 with HDMI switching, i link, and THX ULTRA II certification. It looks awesome. http://www.audioholics.com/news/pressreleases/YamahaRXV4600.php
  12. Black Label Society is Zakk Wylde's band. If you want guitars then this is the band for you. He usually works on the riffs then writes yje lyrics to suite.

    What Sub?

Pioneer will handle it fine. It's just sending a signal to the sub. The sub's internal amp will do all of the work.
  14. I have this and it is alright. Check out the Stevie Ray Vaughn discs.
  15. Looks good. Cool cat
  16. RF7s up front over RB75s is the way I was steered in a recent post. I haven't actually got to purchase yet but it seems the general consensus is RF7.
  17. I still have to wait till my target date this summer so I'll have time to do it all. Except of course one final listening session.
  18. O.K., after reading everyone's replies, going over the alloted budget, and taking measurements I think I have a final system to listen to before purchase. The Pioneer Elite 56Txi-59Avi combo connected with i link. 2 RF7s with an RC7 and a SVS PC Ultra. The RSW 15 will not fit with the RF7s as well as the tube shaped Ultra will in my current room. If I'm going to get RF7s I want them to have breathing room.
  19. One more thing on my budget. If I hold off on replacing surround speakers and external amps. Then the Pioneer 56Txi-59Avi combo with 2 RF7s, RC7, and RSW15 sub fall well within my budget. What do you guys think about this setup?
