  1. Wow. Five Replies. I was in no way complaining, but just confused. I mean, they are speaker spikes, which are virtually undamageable. They could of drove the truck over the package & the spikes would still be ok. I do agree with the signature requirement, proof of delivery is a good way to avoid trouble. Oh. The box the spikes came in was 6 x 6 x 4 (6 inches wide,6 length,4 high) A bit much for 4 little spikes
  2. Well. I finally received my four replacement spikes for my RF3 I orderd from Klipsch..... First, they sent via Fed-Ex that required a signature. I wasnt home Friday and they wouldn't leave it without a signature. I can understand that such a high priced item would have to be signed for {/sarcasm} So now its Monday, and the BOX? arrives..... I look in side the box and under all the styrofoam peanuts there is big piece of bubblewrap with my spikes. I guess now I see why I paid $5.00 for shipping on $1.50 worth of parts. These could of been placed in an envelope & mailed for $0.37
  3. ---------------- The new models in the Reference series start at $299 each for a tower ---------------- I just paid $475 for a pair of used RF-3ii (and at that price,I'm not complaining) But for another $125 I guess I could of had the option. Any word on a release date? About the grills. Any type of conversion kit available for the RF-3. (now that I think about it, I could do that myself, hmmmm)
  4. I found the same link on HTF. I tried it on my cheapo Labtec computer speakers & I found mine died at 60hz. Not bad...........
  5. If you're patient you may be able to find the RF's much cheaper. I'm not suggesting EBAY, but maybe keep an eye out here or other HT websites. I recently found a pair of the RF-3II's(absolute mint condition) for $475. Sure I had to drive 150 miles but well worth it.
  6. Thanks phips, I "thought" that was possible, but didn't want to assume anything. As far as the spikes, I'm going to see if Lowes may have something similar.
  7. Finally. After much waiting & patience I was finally able to afford a pair of my most anticipated purchase. The RF-3 II. Found a guy online selling the pair for $475. After many emails I could tell he was a straight-shooter so I mailed him a MO for 1/2 of the $475 about a month ago. Drove the 150 miles to his house today. Auditioned the pair shortly & managed to squeeze them in my car for the ride home. The speakers aren't too big, but the boxes, geesh! The speakers were in mint condition but a bit dusty. So the first thing I did was clean the speakers. I even used a soft T-Shirt & dry wiped the drivers out (I know, risky, but it worked fine, I couldn't stand to see those beautiful drivers dirty) Oh, the second thing I did was bust a knob off the grill. I guess I see now why I've heard so many bad things about the grills. I wasn't man-handling the grill, but as I pulled, the top corner end just snapped. Didn't really bother me any as I am not planning on using the grills. I was shocked however to see the speaker wouldn't accept a banana plug. Also, the seller only had 4 spikes. So now I am on the hunt for replacements. Any help in that area is helpful. Now the ever present placement question, I am 6 feet away from my TV. The speakers are 6 feet apart. Should I set them farther out? Its kind of a weird setup. My TV is 6 inches from the left speaker & about 2 feet from the left (entertainment center w/component rack on the right side) I can only go 8 inches from the back wall. No more. I will post some pictures as soon as I can. Too dark & no flash digi-cam. Other than that. I can't stop listening. I am hardly an audiophile but I know what sounds good. Thanks for reading, any help with the questions is appreciated.
  8. First, Thanks for the replies. Second, I don't think fatigue will be a factor. I live in an apartment, and I tend to keep the levels low (most of the time) I was curious, would ear fatigue cause vomiting/fainting/death?? I know klipsch rocks....but kills? lol... ok. anyways..... Part 2: I am still confused about wiring my for quintets. DD said to run in a series, being an 8 ohm speaker, will this up the ohms to 16? I take it its better to have higher than lower ohms? I need to read up on this so hopefully I can answer my own question. But input is helpful =) Thanks again.
  9. Where do you live Mr.Peel? I am interested but not till after the holidays. Plus I ve seen em for selling for $180 =) Nevermind, I looked AZ. I like to pickup my used equipment, unless I am getting an insanely low price =)
  10. Yeah. I figure they were talking about the so called "brightness" of the speaker. I for one have never heard a speaker sound more accurate. Everything was there, the highs, mids, lows. Perfect. I just want to know what "fatiguing" feels like As far as the receiver, its an entry level Denon 1602. Nothing fancy. I doubt it can do anything more than whats its doing now. Secondly, I still think I am going to try the 4 surround setup. Whats the most I can lose other than 2 holes in the walls. I figure I will run a series just like I did with my bass shakers. Just checked though..... Quintets: Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohms Would this put a 16 ohm load on my receiver? I take it thats a bad thing? I see if I run a parallel connection (however you do that, cant tell by the picture in my shaker manual) Would it decrease the ohms to 8 for both speakers? Its late, Im bored. Need to goto bed. Work tommorow. Thanks for the help.
  11. Well let me start by saying that I recently put a down payment on a used set of RF-3II's. I have listened to them locally at my dealer,we were using the same receiver, etc, etc. I loved them in the store, knew I eventually wanted a pair,so I found a great deal used. However, I only listened for maybe 15 minutes tops and this was about a year ago. I do own a quintet/sc1 setup now. However, I find the quins just dont do it for me musically. I do love em for movies. Lately I have been browsing different forums and find a lot of people saying "they are fatiguing" Can someone explain first what the heck they are talking about, and second if they are all FOS (figure it out) Part 2: Seeing as how when I get my fronts. I will have an extra set of quintets. What I was thinking (and flames are acceptable) is to mount all 4 quintets on my back wall. I would mount them in pairs vertically, one set facing each other >-----< and one set facing forward v-----v towards the mains. For wiring the speakers, I would run jumper wires off my banana plugs to the top speakers. Would this change the ohm rating in the speakers? I don't want to fry anything. Secondly, would it sound ok?? Thanks for reading. Any tips/suggestions/flames are appreciated.....
  12. Crazy Eddie.... authorized??..... wheres the laugh icon..... Basically, re-read the entire post and you get this. Ubid is the only authroized online seller. If you buy from anyone else, if it breaks, you ship it back to THEM. Not take it down the street to an authorized dealer. I'm sure you ship back at YOUR expense. Risk-eh
  13. Ok. First thanks for reading. Second, I have a chance (will be %100 sure on Dec. 6th) to buy a pair of RF-3ii's for a great price. The guy lives about 150 miles away(not a problem) But I am going to put a "down-payment" on the speakers to seal the deal. (will be paying 1/2 of the money on Dec 6th and picking up the speakers with the other 1/2 Jan.5th) I trust the guy enough to do this without worrying about the condition of the speakers. SO, how would YOU go about sending this guy the money? Money order/check/etc etc? Is there any type of payment (other than check, that could put a "cant cash until Jan.5th" type of thing? Thirdly. I know he bought from an local authorized dealer about a year ago. I not exactly sure I know how long the klipsch warranty is, But I am sure they(klipsch) say the warranty is "non-transferable" So my question is this.... How do they know I am not Joe Seller? Anywho, I am looking forward the the purchase and moving one step closer to my ideal setup.
  14. I just checked ubid has em for $100 shipped. AND...AND...AND you get a warranty from Klipsch. I bought a pair from UBID for like 80 bucks (shipped),this was when they first started selling em by the 100's) and a pair from ebay for 90(shipped),after I couldnt find them on ubid when I wanted the extra pair. Either way I have had zero problems with both sets, they sound great for what they are, and were bought at a great price. I have had these about a year(Although upgraditis has set in, off for the RF-3's) They were my first ever "speaker" purchase. You need a dedicated sub though. It was funny, I had a friend over, he said "damn those little speakers put out some bass" I turned off my (well-hidden)sub and he said "Oh!, I see." Proof that bass is non-directional? Even when I get the RF's, I will be using the four quintets I have as surrounds, if that tells you how much I like em. Edit: the ones on ubid are white. Dont make the same mistake as me and get the wrong color (got white, wanted black)
