  1. Those look mean as hell. Guy probably is selling them bc he can't hear anymore.
  2. Thought others might like to see these if they haven't already. Very good "Buy It Now" price seeing those Cornwalls went for $1800 a few weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1330591682 Also here is a nice looking pair of Cornwalls with Alnico's with an awesome "Buy It Now" price but the guy will absolutely not ship them. Tough drive for me from Houston. =) Take care all. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1330988749
  3. Thanks for the tip Mobile. Are you referring to that stuff I see in the car care products at Wal-Mart by Eagle One I believe. I think it's called Never Dull. I was checking out your Asylum Listing link and noticed that you use Category 5 wiring for your Eico system. Isn't that wire normally used more in computer hardware connections or am I thinking of something else? If it is, do you prefer this wire with the Eico over the DIY? Why so?
  4. Shapeshifter. What did you use to polish the faceplate of your EICO? That unit looks absolutely fantastic.
  5. Anyone ever used something called Tung Oil? Saw some of this next to some linseed oil and was wondering which might be better for the wood? Thanks for any response.
  6. Thanks for the input Mobile. It's always well detailed and somewhat unbiased. =) As far as the EICO goes Jazman I can honestly say that right now I have found no need for a seperate sub. The bass is almost too much on certain tracks and cd's. I have been listening to alot of Radiohead, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and an array of drum and bass and have been more than adequately satisfied with the music I have been receiving. For those who have an EICO HF-81 and Khorns and say that there isn't enough bass I suggest you go pick up a copy of Massive Attack's cd with the songs "Three" and "Protection" on the same cd. I forget the title of the cd itself but listen to "Three" at a level of 3-5 on the EICO and make sure you don't have any pictures hanging on the walls. Take care all.
  7. First of all does anyone know the difference between this unit and the "not-signature?" Also can someone tell me if this is a good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1324265459 Seems strange considering on the Cary homepage these units retail for $5k a piece. I am thinking about buying these, does anyone have any input or experience with these? How do they compare to the 2A3-SE? BTW Mobile and Jazman - that EICO HF-81 I picked up off ebay two weeks back finally arrived and sounds GREAT hooked up to the Khorns. I must say I was quite surprised. Kicks the shiat out of my Yamaha HTR-5240. =)
  8. Thanks for the good words Jazman. I feel really good about my purchase now that you titled it "The Real Deal." I logged on to ebay that evening and saw that HF-81 and figured heck...after reading a great deal about this unit in the past month on this forum I decided that $200 wasn't too much to ask especially after reading the seller's description. Sent the money order off in the mail yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. My introduction to the world of tubes has begun. My "new to me" 75 Khorns I should suspect will love this thing. Take care all.
  9. My speakers have the oil walnut finish and I was curious to know people's past experiences with oiling the finish. Any suggestions on type of oil, # of coats, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Take care and happy new year.
  10. I bought them two days ago. The Khorns that is. 1975 Oil Walnut finish. The gentleman who was selling them took exceptional care of them. He was the first owner as well. I consider myself very blessed. Saw the ad late Sunday night, called Monday and went to get them. Now all I need to do is save up for a good amp. L8's.
  11. I know this is a thread that many regular patrons of this site have seen time and time again and they are probably tired of responding to it. I appreciate those who take the time to respond. Yesterday I acquired a pair of Khorns from a gentleman who was their first owner and they are CHOICE. I will be the first to admit it, I am a newb to tube amps and am quite overwhelmed with the amount of information I have received from this forum in the past few days. All sorts of questions dealing with crossover upgrades to replacement of the horns, squawker, and tweeters has led me to believe that I am not prepared for these speakers. Then again that gives me all the reason to learn. I am eager to create the best soundscape possible with my budget but have nowhere near the level of know-how that many of the audiophile's do on the forum. If anyone out there responding to this post has any recommendations as to where I can obtain a basic foundation of literature pertaining to the maintenance, care, and suggested set-up of these speakers it would so greatly be appreciated. Also, any tube amp recommendation would be warmly received. Thanks to all, take care, happy holidays.
  12. I just came across a pair of Walnut Khorns that I purchased today and I was wondering if anyone can provide me with feedback as to their experience with amp selection. I would like to get these babies hooked up before this weekend but really need some advice here so I can avoid the next month of amp demo. Any advice one can gave on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. I have seen others on this board in the past few days talking about being able to tell when the speakers were made. Can anyone informed tell me what year these were made...I am considering buying them. How do Belles compare to Khorn's? Here are the serial numbers: 8717207 and 8717208. Thanks for any feedback.
